This beautiful lodge is worth every penny. We stayed for almost 2 weeks while visiting family nearby and Stoneleigh provided exactly the peaceful and luxurious retreat we were seeking. Liz and Chris are gracious and accommodating hosts with a meticulous eye for detail. The view from the Alpine Suite is wonderful and the space itself is large, comfortable and well decorated. Breakfasts are delicious. We enjoyed walking around the gardens, cooling off in the pool and just watching the very appealing alpacas. We even witnessed an alpaca birth during our stay.

I stayed in this beautiful house with my family in Nov 2014. We stayed for more than 10 hotels/ apartments for our trip to New Zealand and we concluded that the most comfortable bed on our journey was in here! The house was very clean and tidy and everything was just perfect. House owner Chris and Liz were kind and cheerful. Alpacas were cute. It was our first time to stay in a farmhouse. Will definitely revisit again.

We recently had our wedding night at Stoneleigh. We Stayed the alpine view room, it was large and luxurious with everything we needed and way more. We only wished we had more time there to enjoy the facilities. We had an amazing breakfast prepared by Liz, both Liz and Chris were fantastic and we enjoyed talking to both who were very friendly and accommodating.

It is without hesitation that we offer this unsolicited feedback to warmly recommend the accommodation and the facilities of this phenomenal Bed and Breakfast accommodation, Stoneleigh Lodge.

We also want to express our deep appreciation to the hosts, Liz and Chris, who excelled in every aspect of looking after us during our recent three-night stay.

This was about the tenth visit across from Sydney to Canterbury since 2002, but on this occasion we chose to experience genuine hospitality, arriving at Stoneleigh on 11 January 2014. We sought an opportunity to relax and experience more of Christchurch whilst enjoying the surrounds of one of the finest B&B’s in New Zealand, if not the world!

Our arrival on a warm Christchurch afternoon was soon met with the warmth of our hostess - Liz. We were greeted like long-time family friends, and without the officiousness so often experienced in establishments of similar repute. We were made to feel that our arrival was as welcoming an experience for the hosts, as much as it was for us! Indeed, we were very much made to ‘feel at home.’

Stoneleigh needs to be experienced for its French chateau design and its incredibly inviting accommodation (we tried both rooms!). However, bricks and mortar - no matter how luxurious - are not as important as the people that make up a home, and in that regard, our experience of the hosts truly made for a memorable experience that we will continue to appreciate for many years to come.

From the local knowledge imparted by the hosts, to the opportunity to freely walk through the paddocks of Stoneleigh and interact with the alpacas, horses and the two adorable Burmese cats ... this was just what we needed as we concluded a three-week holiday in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

Guests are in for a particular treat each morning over breakfast! Liz’s talents in the kitchen are superb, ably assisted by Chris as he moves between his day-job and home-life.

An opportunity to stay at Stoneleigh is as much a privilege as it is a wonderful experience. The home is superb in every detail and draws its guests in to all it has to offer, but none of that would have been possible had it not been for the warm and welcoming ways of the hosts.

Qualmark rank Stoneleigh Lodge as five-star accommodation .. we rank it as 10/10!

We will return to the estate to experience its many facets, but most of all because the Hosts.

Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review. We had such a great time with you both while you were here. We love having guests who stay with us for a few days as we get to spend quality time with you and we really enjoyed getting to know you both. It was a pleasure to show you the alpacas and I only wished one of the girls would have birthed one of their babies while you were here. We had a little premature alpaca baby born yesterday and we are bottle feeding her full time at the moment. Looking forward to your next visit. All the best for now.

If you would love to see alpaca, Stoneleigh Lodge would be a great choice! Its only 20mins away from the Christchurch airport. The room was clean, huge and comfy. The hosts, Liz and Chris were welcoming and friendly!! The 70+ alpacas were super super adorable! I was still amazed by their great management on the farm as well as the accommodation. The breakfast was really really delicious!! :)

....this was definitely serendipity! We had booked our hotel some time ago in Christchurch but the earthquake intervened! We subsequently had to look outside of the city and what a fantastic spot we found in Stoneleigh for the last night of our Kiwi holiday - special!

Chris and Liz are the most wonderful hosts. They own what would have to be one of the top B & B's of its type in NZ. They advertise as a 'luxury B&B' and luxury it proved to be. As we all know a B& B isn't just about the bricks and mortar and our hosts were magnificent during our one night stay in Canterbury.

Our alpine view suite upstairs WAS luxury. There is total attention to detail, and Liz and Chris couldn't do enough for us to ensure we were comfortable. This extended to Liz very graciously running us into our evening out in Rangiora and picking us up again later in the night. The taxi availability at this time was zero due to the chaos of the recent Ch-Ch earthquake. Stoneleigh is out of town a bit and set in private grounds which run cute (and very valuable!) alpacas.

There are only two suites and the other guests joined us at breakfast. The relaxed atmosphere created by our hosts ensured that breakfast was most enjoyable and fun, as we laughed with our fellow travellers who were from the US. Breakfast was perfect. Huge if thats what we had wanted.... or created just to order. The food was excellent thanks Liz! It would put a five-star hotel to shame.

As Chris and Liz waved us off, we proceeded down the long tree-lined drive towards the automatic security gate and wished we could have stayed longer.

We will be back!

As a family of 5 we needed to stay near Christchurch for one night after a long-haul and a domestic flight. The alley and the chateau-style lodge were very impressive from the outside. But the inside was even more surprising: a huge room on the second floor, beautifully equipped with four beds, plus a kitchenette and a wellness bathroom was more than we expected when we did the booking. Sleeping: absolute tranquility with a breeze blowing softly through open windows.
The very friendly owners are running an alpaca farm around the lodge, but also other animals were attracting our three girls. Just perfect for the parents to enjoy a little longer the rich, tasty breakfast, prepared exactly the way we like it.
We seriously regretted to have booked for only one night and still remember the hospitality and friendliness in a perfectly luxurious environment.

We stayed in the Lake View room overnight while attending a wedding in the area. It was a lovely experience, very clean and luxurious and the owner/operator was most accommodating in our requirements.

Breakfast was very nice with plenty of food. Would have been nice to spend more time there.
