Disney's Contemporary Resort receives a spectrum of feedback from guests. While the spacious rooms with impressive views and distinctive theming are often praised, some visitors have raised concerns about soundproofing and cleanliness. The hotel's atmosphere draws mixed reviews, with its unique Incredibles decor appealing to some but not to others. Cleanliness generally earns high marks, though issues at the club level lounge are noted. Service experiences vary, ranging from commendable to disorganized. The resort's location is widely celebrated for its accessibility to Disney attractions, yet the value proposition is questioned by many who feel the high cost is not fully justified by the amenities and perks provided.

We completed our 15th on-property stay at the Contemporary Resort on September 6th. In 2011, we stayed at the Contemporary and received a magical upgrade from the garden wing to the 11th-floor pool view room. This reservation was also for the garden wing, and this stay had no magical upgrades. The garden wing was unbelievably quiet and appropriately equipped for three adults. A walk from our second-floor room to the 4th floor was 4:25 minutes.

The room is large and has many unique lighting features. It has reading lights, recessed ceiling lighting with a dimmer, and other lighting. The closet, too, has lights and could serve as a nightlight if you have children. The Contemporary does fulfill a niche within the Deluxe properties of having an enclosed atrium to entertain. Every afternoon, it would rain @ Disney World, so we could spend time in the arcade and shop when the weather had us hostage. The monorail also allowed us access to EPCOT and Magic Kingdom when it was raining.

The California Grill is NOT part of Disney Dining. The Contempo Café’s food selections were mediocre at best. Any national chain restaurant has better quality and portions. Ice cream is only available in bars or soft serve. Our previous stay in 2023 was at the Pop Century, and their food court is much better than what the Contemporary offers. Quick-service meal quality has decreased since 2015 inside the park and within the resorts. They used to include a drink, salad or dessert, and an entree. Those days are over.

The pool and the pool-side cast members hosting music trivia were fantastic. The volume wasn’t too much, and she was delightful and encouraged play from the poolside guests without being obnoxious.

We won’t return to the Contemporary in future visits. With the regression of quick-service meal quality and limited menu selections, we feel moderate and value resorts better fit our needs.

I just got back from our stay at the Contemp and it was awesome, with some problems that didn't detract from our enjoyment.
The best thing about the Contemp is the short walk to Magic Kingdom. That makes the hotel feel so special and privileged! I can just pop in Magic Kingdom any time I wanted.
I requested an earlier room check in, and was sent my room number at 12pm, which is fantastic because 2 of my kids were sick. So we arrived at the room, and I let the kids rest in the hotel while I took off to MK for a quick hour, then got back and took my healthy kid to the pool. For other Disney hotels, it takes at least half hour just to reach Magic Kingdom. We got take out food from the food court as well as Steakhouse 71 and ate in the room (very nice with sick kids). Apparently, you have to stay at the Contemp to be allowed to order takeout from Steakhouse 71, so we enjoyed the privilege, though not the food (terrible, tastes like stuff I make, I will never eat there again.) The food court's food is far better, not to mention cheaper.
The room looks OK, probably the ugliest deluxe Disney hotel room there is with its Incredibles theming. I am OK with the Incredibles movie but don't feel that it needs to be slapped onto the Contemporary. It wasn't even that popular of a movie. It does provide a sofa that turns into a bed, which I appreciate. The old room decor looked far better and I loved it, but for some reason Disney decided to change it. The glowing closet door does look very good, I must admit. If I ever need to buy closet doors I'll be sure to get such glowing ones. Another thing that's neat is the indirect ceiling light, looks awesome.
What's really odd is that the two bed frames are joined together as a single piece. I can't imagine what the purpose is. As a result, when my kids move on their bed, it shakes my bed! I've never seen that before.
The shower looks very beautiful has very weak water pressure even though it is brand new from the remodeling.
The heater didn't work very well, so I was cold all night (46 out) and didn't sleep well enough.
At night, the toilet stopped working and won't flush. So I took the lid off and fixed it! Wow, I've never fixed a toilet before, and it was different from my home toilet, but I saw what the problem was, and I fixed it!
The hallway in the Garden Wing was narrow and bland, even after the Incredibles refurbishment, unlike other deluxe hotels such as Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is cheaper than the Contemp but has much fancier hallways. But you can't walk to a park from there!
We booked the Garden Wing, though the main building is nicer with better hallways. We were upgraded to there once, and we appreciated the upgrade, but I don't want to ever stay there again because I'm impatient, and the elevators there is a pain during busy hours. It took me 9 minutes to go from my room to the ground floor amidst large crowds of people all fighting for the elevator, many of them aren't hotel guests but merely eating at Chef Mickey's.
After dinner, I walked to the Grand Floridian and back during fireworks time, and it was such a beautiful and magical walk.
At 9 pm, we went to Magic Kingdom again and took advantage of the low crowds after fireworks. We didn't have to worry about getting back too late or the bus being too crowded! It was just amazing.

Pros – walking distance to Magic Kingdom, great food at the quick service restaurants. Housekeeping does an excellent job we stayed club level, the variety of the food was really good and lots of things were available grab and go that other clubs don’t have at the ready. Cons: the design of the room is very sparse and there’s not a lot of storage. The club level lounge really struggled with cleanliness and the staff was not as interactive or proactive as that we have experience that other club level lounges on Disney property.

I booked this resort for a nice weekend with my family as this is my and my mothers favorite resort. Prior to my arrival I spoke a few times with Disney Signature Services about the trip, arrival time, whos coming, celebrations, and any requests. I put in a request for a specific room, but it wasn't guaranteed, completely understand. I arrive a little bit after check in time, I was brought up to the concierge desk on the 14th floor where I was met by Jim. We get to our room and its a handicap accessible room with a theme park view (I paid for standard view). He claimed this was an "upgrade" but the room lacked many amenities and when I mentioned I requested a room with the sleeper sofa, he claimed there weren't any on the 14th floor (lie #1), and said there was no request on my reservation (lie #2). Finally, after going back and forth he saw my request and he moved us down to the 12th floor with a water view and a sleeper sofa. The Club Level lounge on the 12th floor is lacking everything. Had to hunt cast members down for silverware, cups, plates, basically everything as it seems they are employing the least amount of people possible. The parks were great, we had a blast everywhere else, but the hotel. I have another trip that I was going to spend at the contemporary, but I changed that reservation as quickly as possible.
I have stayed at basically every hotel at Disney from Deluxe club level to the cheapest room I can find and this was the absolute worst experience I've had at a Disney resort. Steer clear, save your money and stay at Poly or Grand.

We visit Disney often and we always wanted to stay at the Contemporary...what more iconic resort is there than the one with the monorail going through it after all?

Location was absolutely wonderful. You cannot get any closer to the Magic Kingdom unless you stay in the castle! We had the option of hopping over on the monorail or walking the path between the park and the resort. This made going to my favorite park a breeze.

Room. We booked a Theme Park View room which was perfect because we could literally see the castle and space mountain from our balcony and we could lay in our beds at night at watch the fireworks. BUT if I were to stay here again I would not book this category. There are a lot of viewing areas around the hotel where you can watch the fireworks from without paying a premium for it. Also beware...in some of the rooms you can feel the bed shake when the monorail goes through. The room itself was spacious and we liked the fun Incredibles theming.

The resort itself was loud, due to the layout and how open it is to the restaurants on the 4th floor. You will hear noise constantly.

This resort shares a bus with Wilderness Lodge which I thought was odd for the price point. On many occasions we were packed in like sardines and it was standing room only. Also no bus to/from Epcot. You have to use the monorail and transfer at the ticket and transportation center to the Epcot monorail. Which at times was insanely busy and we probably would have rather taken a bus if the option was there.

Plenty of food options. Mobile ordering at Contempo Cafe makes it easy to have your food ready when you want it and it's customizable for picky eaters. Chef Mickey's is always LOUD! California Grill is worth a visit. We didn't get to try Steakhouse 71.

Sadly the resort lacked the personal touch I have come to know and expect from other Disney resorts (many at much lower price tags!) so that was not something I was prepared for.

All in all, it was fun to cross this iconic resort off my Disney bucket list but it was a one and done for us.

TIPS: Don't waste your money on the theme park view rooms. There are plenty of places to view the fireworks from the resort. Also maybe consider using an Uber/Lyft at busy times to avoid the jam packed busses.

The location was perfect for getting to and from the Magic Kingdom park with a 10 minute walk. The monorail is located within the hotel structure and the shuttle busses pickup just outside the hotel. Our two rooms were spacious enough and clean, with comfortable beds, a nice-sized refrigerator, safe, and big closet. As the carpet is only around the beds, you could hear other guests moving in their rooms when walking on the hard floors. The HVAC system worked well, which was important since the weather was very hot and humid. There was a dirty towel on the floor between the door connecting our two rooms that never got removed. In one room the shower/tub water was only hot one time and other times had to be used lukewarm. Apparently, this is a known issue in this area, but the water smells like sulfer so the bathroom always had an odor and you could smell the bath and sink water, and taste it everywhere water was served. The hotel vending machine charged $4.50 for a 20 oz. bottle of water and the downstairs store charged 4.69 plus tax.
The most negative aspect of our visit were the employees at the front desk and valet. The check-in women was moody and disinterested, gave us incorrect information about using the Disney cellphone app, forgot to give us complimentary luggage tags and answering a question about using the magic band. Later, we stopped at the desk and were given correct information and a missing cardkey. Upon checkout, I wanted to see the bill to discuss any questionable charges before we left. I was simply told that checkout had already been done electronically and not given a printed receipt. We checked our bags with the valet while we ate before our transfer to the airport arrived. Upon retrieving our bags, the attendant watched us struggle to unload our suitcases from the cart and simply waited for a tip. All the store, restaurant, and housekeeping workers in the hotel we encountered were friendly and helpful.

Definitely not a 5 star hotel. Really poor service and very overpriced. We arrived at 1 o’clock and left our bags with the bell captain who said that they would put the bags in our rooms when the rooms were available.
7 hours later having visited Epcot we arrive back to the hotel with 2 toddlers to find no bags in our rooms.
After 45 minutes of having to retrieve our own bags from the storage area and having not been told the truth as to where the bags were.
The manager was argumentative and unhelpful.
We then ask housekeeping for extra bath towels and are told that there are only 1 or 2 people working in housekeeping for the entire hotel so the towels will take 30 minutes. I explained that this is really not acceptable and we need the towels sooner than later. The towels arrived within 10 mins.
The Club floor is also not what it was, after 7pm there are just desserts no savoury items.
We have stayed at this hotel previously but will never come back. It is a complete rip off with a mixture of lovely staff and very unhelpful staff that don’t remember who the customer is.
I am extremely disappointed.

We've stayed at several of the Disney World Resorts and I wanted to try the Contemporary due to the convenience of walking to the Magic Kingdom and also I wanted a Theme Park view. The resort did not disappoint in either of these areas as we could watch the fireworks every night and I couldn't believe how close we were to the park! Theming is a bit more understated than the other resorts so while the room is very nice, if you have small children you might prefer a different resort that feels more "Disney".

The resort was clean and the staff very friendly and accommodating, particularly in the quick service cafe. The food there wasn't great though and I really miss the old style of counter service pre-mobile ordering.

While I was surprised that you couldn't hear the monorail at all, there was noise due to the hotel design. If you are near Chef Mickey's you will hear the noise in your room.

This is a Deluxe level hotel but I've preferred some of the other cheaper Disney Resorts due to design and decor. I never felt like I was staying in a luxury hotel and I assume it's just location that really sets the Contemporary apart.

We recently splurged on a club level room at the contemporary atrium club. I wanted to give a review specifically on the club level to help others decide if the upgrade is worth it for them.

The regular rooms (atrium club level) are basically the same as other atrium rooms; the only difference is you get on the 12th floor and special access to the club lounge and concierge. The concierge usually can’t make you any special Disney reservations you can’t make on the app yourself, but we found them super helpful just generally.

We had some difficulty with room availability at check in—we need a tub for small children and requested this, but we’re given a shower only—and the club concierge took care of everything for us.

We also had to switch rooms once (not due to any issue with the rooms/hotel) and the concierge made it seamless and easy.

Courtney at concierge was fantastic. She basically handled both our room issues. My son lost a tooth on the trip, and she made sure to get him a present and let him know Tinker Bell would help the tooth fairy find him. She was great at helping incoming guests and fielding any questions.

We loved the lounge. You can tell they’ve stepped up their game since it shut down for covid. The service was impeccable. The lounge was bussed and cleaned often. Servers were readily available to get things for you (you can get bottled waters and wine/beer on request whenever). The balconies were great for viewing fireworks, so I didn’t see a point to upgrade to a fireworks room.

The lounge food was amazing and was enough to satisfy us for breakfast and dinner and evening. I’m pretty sure it’s mostly coming from California Grill. The miso braised short ribs with farro rice and the chicken biscuits with peach sauce were a hit with everyone in our multigenerational group. They have a sparkling cava, a chenin blanc, a moscato, a Pinot noir, and a Cabernet for wine. They had baileys, frangelica, kahlua, and grand mariner at dessert. They had a large beer assortment. The espresso machine and water filter are available 24/7. Plus a fridge stocked with coke products, milks, and juices. They usually had tater tots and Mac and cheese or corn dog nuggets and pb&js for kids. The dessert offerings are ample and comparable to a dessert party.

I’m the parent of a child who used to have allergies, and the staff is great at checking about allergies.

I wasn’t sure whether the upgrade to club level would be worth it for our trip, but all the adults in the party think it was well worth it for the club food and assistance.

It’s worth noting that club level rooms were included in the recent 25% Disney+ discount. So, with that discount I definitely think it’s worth it, especially if you know you would like to be able to return to the resort and have access to these services during your stay. Since we had 3 adults, it did save us on what we could have spent on coffee, wine, breakfast, dinner, treats.

This hotel is iconic. Nothing beats gliding in on the monorail into the atrium with the beautiful Mary Blair artwork and looking down at Chef Mickey. However, you can experience all that for free without paying to stay.
We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms in the Garden Wing. We were hoping for peace and quiet which I suppose we got but it felt a bit Travelodge-y. Which is not bad in itself but not what you’re hoping for when you’re paying nearly £400 a night. Of course if you’re going to Disneyworld from the UK you’ve already thrown any financial caution to the wind.
One slightly odd thing was the low ceilings in the corridors. The further you venture in, the more you feel like Alice in Wonderland, which might be the plan, but if you’re anywhere near 6 feet watch out for the fire exit signs or you may decapitate yourself.
The Incredibles room design is cute but not at all luxurious. The bed is on legs and it was nice having the storage underneath. Absolutely hate the big communal shampoo screwed to the wall of the shower. Adds to the utilitarian feel.
Staff we interacted with were pleasant but not particularly warm. They did give us access to Bay Lake Tower to do our laundry when we couldn’t get the machines in the Garden Wing to work. On our last night water started pouring through the bathroom ceiling. They moved us to a different room further down the corridor but only after several hours of having workmen in the room tinkering with valves and what-not. It would’ve been nicer to have been moved straightaway so we didn’t waste an evening of our holiday.
The shops in the atrium are handy. It was fine to be able to refill our drink cups within the main hotel which was only a short distance away and you can watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks from the balcony near the shops. The music is piped through.
We stayed here so we could walk to Magic Kingdom but only did it once then took the Monorail.
All in all, I don’t think the stay would’ve been improved much, if at all, by paying the extra for a room in the main tower. Given the wide choice of places to stay in Disney, we wouldn’t choose this hotel again.

when we were there a couple of months ago no - they were still working on it. also the pool had very limited hours - think it only opened at 10 or 11. also no service from the snack stand. really was disappointed. for a family pool was not family friendly. also g-daughter was not allowed to go down slide with her dad - she is 2.5 yrs. every other resort we go to - no problem. mickey has no sense of humor anymore.
