Nestled near Puerto Morelos and the marina, Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort is celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, complete with live entertainment and festive decor for special occasions. My wife and stayed at the Hotel Marina El Cid Spa & Beach Resort from January 26th to February 2nd 2020.
We enjoyed this resort immensely; meaning we relaxed and only did two excursions.

We found the hotel to be very clean with employees visibly cleaning something all the time. The grounds were very well kept. The room was also very clean and the room cleaner visited every day, refilling the fridge and even leaving some treats before we turned in in evenings.

The buffets were good and the food continuously refilled. The restaurants were also very good. The only thing I would say, although my wife loved everything about the resort, is that neither the buffets nor the restaurants had anything outstanding (the roast beef was close). In the many resorts we’ve stayed at in the past, I often found at least one thing that I would say “I could eat that every day!”; that didn’t happen here.

The beach was better than we had expected. You can walk along on either side of the resort and you can swim easily if you walk around some rocks.

This resort is actually two resorts in one, the sister resort is the Ventus. We mainly relaxed on the Ventus side because it was quieter.

We really appreciated the fact the employees seemed happy to work there. We often witnessed employees joking and laughing while working in the restaurants or around bars or the main entrance. We didn’t get any negative vibes from them.

It was also nice to have the marina within the resort as some of the excursions launch directly from there, such as snorkeling and scuba diving.

Just as we arrived in the lobby, even before checking in, hotel employees tried to convince us to go to a presentation, the next day. We did attend the presentation the next day, in order to get the $75 rebate on activities, where they entice us into buying into their EL CID club. They said the presentation would be 90 minutes but it ended up being 3 hours. We declined all offers. We did get the $75, which we used on an Isla Mujeres excursion.

All in all, still very satisfied with the trip.

This was our first time at Marina El Cid, and we had a wonderful time, cannot say enough good things: the staff were very friendly, helpful, and simply outstanding to go out of their way to help and in trying to engage guests to partake in the daily activities! They are food allergy aware, which was a tremendous relief for us, as we have food allergies, and were able to clarify any questions or concerns. Considering the global pandemic, the staff were constantly cleaning and disinfecting washrooms, and the facilities. The kids club was great, my boys went a couple days and had a great time. We upgraded our room to building 17, ground floor, and it's closer to the beach and pool and we had morning views of the pool and ocean which made for a wonderful and restful vacation. The only reason I cannot give this resort an "excellent" review is the beach, it's not the nicest because of the seaweed and rough surface under the water, I would recommend your bring aquasocks if you try to venture in to the water and don't mind seaweed touching you... however do go for a walk, about 6-8 minute walk, the dolphin marina is nearby, we walked in the morning, and my kids loved seeing the dolphins.

We arrived at Hotel Marina El Cid just a few days after it opened back up. The resort itself was beautiful. Though we booked our room at the marina side, they actually gave us a room in the Ventus side because that is the only side that is open. They have hand sanitizer to use when entering each restaurant and even have you sanitize the bottom of your shoes. Masks are not require for tourists inside, but recommended and most seemed to adhere to the recommendations. The plus side of going right now is that it was not very busy. Some days it felt like we had the place to ourselves almost. The downside is that not all of the restaurants were open. We wish we would have known this before our arrival because my husband did not bring long pants, which are required to eat at the French restaurant. We were originally fine with skipping the French restaurant, but when there was only 3 options for dinner we figured we would try to eat there. Even with the lack of restaurants open, they still would not relax the dress code a little. Even though we all looked very nicely dressed. So we had to alternate eating Italian and Mediterranean food for dinner each night. We would have preferred to know this prior to arrival. The Mercado de Delores was our favorite restaurant. Delicious Mexican food offered each day for lunch only. Plus their other food options were good as well. We would have eaten there for dinner instead of the Italian and Mediterranean if it had been an option. The service everywhere was great. We especially had great service at Zaza Lounge on the Ventus side. Oscar was an awesome. The beach is VERY rocky, but because I had read the reviews I bought water shoes for my kids. So they still had fun in the water. In fact, my son probably enjoyed it more because he had a great time looking for little shells and creatures around the rocks. The pools were nice. We spent a lot of the time at the big pool on the Marina side. The kids had a lot of fun jumping off of the cliff things into the water. Overall we had a great time. I'm glad we were able to still have a fun vacation despite all of the circumstances right now.

We stayed for 15 days, everyday we had to call for water and beverages, also had to call 3 times to get our room cleaned! Floor was not Mopped in 15 days, Front desk workers have no communication skills,if it was not for Arturo it would of been a terrible trip. When I needed something Arturo made sure he got it done, when checking out they told us our children spent $350 American dollars at the Spa, Never even had children with us..Arturo should be the manager of the entire place his is the only one that knows what the hell is going on at the resort. Leyder at the Lobby bar is amazing and friendly, Oscar at the pool was awesome!! Valentin and Noe at the pool are absolutely wonderful people!! Thank God for the workers cause the front desk sure don't know what is going on...

Our family of 3 had a great time! So clean!
The pool area was PERFECT for kids and adults. The pool is laid out so nicely. It's big with plenty of chairs available. We never had to run down early to "save spots". There is an area for the toddlers, and a climbing wall and slide for the older kids. My son is 14. He wants to return every year! He made a few new friends at the pool (age 10-14) the first day and spent much of each day at the climbing wall, teen center, and volleyball net.
When we first arrived we were very confused with the layout of the resort but after the first full day we had it figured out. It's a decent size, not too big, not too small.
The buffets had a large variety of things to choose from. Very clean and staff was great! We only made one dinner reservation. We personally don't like to be committed to an eating time.
One thing we noticed is they don't have food service poolside. We have never been to a resort without it. It's great not having the pesty birds all over chasing after the fallen and leftover food while relaxing!
We didn't spend any time at the beach except to go for walks. If you plan on going in the water be sure and bring your water shoes. There were always open hammocks and cabanas available beachside if that's what you like.
The nightly entertainment was outstanding!
The negatives for us were....they tried to get us to go through some sales pitch about upgrading. We declined but saw lots of others engaging in it. It's not our thing. There was also an occasional weird smell in certain areas. It wasn't terrible, just notable.

Beautiful grounds, not much else. Food was adequate, nothing special. I prefer Pepsi, but they had only Coke products. They say all alcohol beverages, but I drink Jameson and ginger ale, they had neither. Room was adequate nothing special. One picture on the walls, ordinary bed clothes. This hotel is a time share outfit. We escaped the program but cause we recognized it right away. Most people were not so lucky. The drinks at the pool were served on ordinary plastic cups, but they collected them and reused them. That was disgusting. The beach was very small and very rocky and covered with seaweed. There was one part of the beach that was nice, but it was reserved for the platinum club , which was something you could have sign up for, at an added cost. We were very disappointed

We just got home from a wonderful week at Marina El Cid in Puerto Morelos. I can't say enough about this resort. This is our third visit. We were a bit nervous about travelling given the pandemic but it couldn't have gone any smoother. They had hand sanitizer dispensers all over the place, I never saw a single staff member who wasn't wearing a mask, no matter what they were doing, indoor staff wore both masks and shields, all guests were required to wear masks (I didn't see even one person who didn't comply), they had a team going all over the resort spraying all the poolside furniture, they sanitized every table in the restaurant every time it became vacant, etc. I think I've probably missed some of the steps they took but suffice to say, it would be literally impossible to do any more than they did. The safety of their guests was clearly a top priority. Also, while we were there we experienced Hurricane Zeta. The Resprt kept us fully informed of the situation, storm panels were put up in every vulnerable area, room service was deliverwed before the storm hit, and security and facilities staff blanketed the areas outside the guest roomsfor the duration of the storm. A top notch handling of a difficult situation. Our check in was smooth and quick with all the necessary protocols in place. I requested a room in a specific building and was quickly accomodated. The food is excellent! The Pad Thai in the Mercado de Dolores was amazing! There is a wide selection for every taste. Also, there's "Aromas", the coffee shop. My wife loved the cappucinos. They also offered a selection of freshly blended smoothies and juices. Fantastic! We went to the French, Italian, and seafood restaurants. They were all excellent. We spent our days either at the infinity pool by the beach or in the main pool. Both were excellent! I'm not a big fan of loud music so I found that to be a pain at times at the main pool. Both pools are well maintained and clean with plenty of loungers, patio sets, and beds. Our room was spotlessly clean when we arrived and kept that way all week. Of all the things this resort has going for it, number one is the staff! Unfailiingly polite, friendly, welcoming, attentive, from the front desk,to the drivers, wait staff, cooks in the Mercado, maids, pool atendants, and bartenders. They are what really earns a 5 Star Review! We're already thinking about a return trip!

This was our first visit with an El Cid Hotel and we're hooked! We traveled with another family of 4 (both of us have 2 kids ages 11 and 13).
Pros - two sister resorts within walking distance provide a variety in restaurants/food
Several smaller infinity pools (one is adult only), plus a HUGE main pool at both resorts.
Easy beach access with plenty of beach chairs
Quick taxi ride into Puerto Morelos ($10 USD each way/4 people)
Very clean rooms and hotel grounds
Very Friendly staff from servers to bartenders to groundskeepers to the front desk staff.
Concierge was always available to answer questions
Covid testing was done on site and was efficient, but did cost $36 USD/test/person.
Private beach location and lots of security to get into the resort

Cons
The teen club was never really open, and stayed dark most of the time
Lots of little fees were not included - wifi had to be purchaed PER device (not per room), different views could add on to the total bill, Covid tests were not included.
All water sports (except boogie boarding) were adult only
"sales pitch" to sign up for vacation club and any activies through the hotel (much less expensive to book on your own!)
Spa was gorgeous but very overpriced for others in the area
Reservations required at most restaurants, and even when booking ahead, most of the times that were every available for us were 5 pm or 9:30 pm (which wasn't our top choices)
Room service was average and typically took 60-90 minutes beyond their estimated delivery time.

Ventus Marina El Cid is beautiful resort! There are 3 resorts together, older newer and brand new but all are Extremely clean but mostly quiet! White beach towels, speaks of a cleanness.
I want to point out VIP buttler walter at Marina El Cid was serving us with extra attention reserving us drinks, getting us pool chairs and made our vacation alot better!!!
Room have Very comparable beds sheets quality is luxurious, and Housekeeping changing sheets without asking, beautiful landscaping, beautiful pools, just lacking music by Ventus pool. There's entertainment and music by Marina El Cid Pool. Ventus lobby entertaining daily with live music, after live music DJ but not every day. Hotel puts bracelets on the wrist tgey scan when you get in restaurant but if you loose one they charge $20 it's way too much for something you done ventus want to have on your wrist to begging with.
No wifi enternet cost $15per day. Hotel also charged us $31 some sort of taxes I didn't understand what for. For lunch we went to Hacienda restaurant not much to chooser from but they grilled tbone steaks, pork and fish was delicious! There was a decent coffee shop with pastries by ventus buffet place.
Dinners need to be reserved ahead of time and often nothing available so we just go to restaurant and ask a manager to let us eat because buffet are so small and choices are few, if we pay for allinclucive $$$ I want to be served at least a dinner. Food in restaurants was good. Drinks and the view at Rooftop bar in VentusHa was phenomenal! After all we liked stayithere even it was a little boring without Pool music. There was at least 3 warm jacuzzi to warm up in the evening. Lots of cabanas at no cost no reservation needed.
At the time we stayed beach was terrible, like muddy water.

Where do I begin?!? I loved EVERYTHING about this resort. My husband and I travel several times throughout the year and this was one of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying (and I’m a hotel snob) we are usually not pool people and would rather spend time at the beach, but the pools were so clean, large and inviting, we enjoyed them immensely! Service was top notch and I have never seen a place that was so clean and well maintained! Attention was paid to every little detail! We were never bothered by sales people and the staff members were so friendly and always took the time to greet us and make sure we were pleased with our stay. We always plan a trip in September as resorts are usually less crowded. We didn’t have to wait for anything and most evenings had the pool to ourselves. I would definitely recommend and cannot wait to go again!!

Dear client, Thank you for getting in touch with us. Related to your previous question: Guests of the sister resorts can use the regular amenities of our entire complex, such as restaurants, bars, pools, beaches, etc. The only restriction you might find for platinum areas is if you are not in the platinum club.
