Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa offers a mix of experiences, according to guests. While the amenities like clean pools and beach access are often lauded, many guests find the rooms to suffer from privacy and noise issues. The location's beauty is acknowledged, although some feel it's isolated and frequently disrupted by events.
The vibrant atmosphere with plenty of activities is a highlight, yet it comes with a downside of constant noise. Service is generally well-regarded, though the value proposition is marred by unexpected fees and inconsistent housekeeping.

Detailed Reviews
Stayed for 10 days at the end of February 2020 and had a fantastic and very relaxing time. Our room was on the quieter side of the resort facing the ocean (requested) but was two doubles instead of the king/queen we requested. No biggie. We slept on one and used one for luggage lol, I'm sure the maid was glad she didn't have to make/clean both.
Some incredible things about this resort:
1. The staff. ARE. INCREDIBLE! I really can't rave enough, from the moment your airport ride brings you to the entrance to the moment you enter your ride to (sadly) go back to the airport. I've stayed at Dreams before and it's consistently just friendly and accommodating staff. I want to name particularly Santiago our lovely beach server on the Preferred Club side and Carmen our fantastic bartender who sang to me when I walked past. Unreal people in the absolute best way possible.
2. The beach. This resort is located behind the Mayan Reef Barrier so only the most gentle waves crash on this perfect white sand beach. The sand is cool (this time of year?) to the touch and just...it feels like walking on clouds it's so fine and soft. I had the pleasure of swimming in the cool ocean water when the sun got to be too much. So fun!
I will remark that I have never seen a resort quite so busy; there was 2-3 weddings EACH day! One day, there was 4! However, plenty of space for all, very well planned out spaces and you're never crowded or neglected. Incredible.
Some recommendations: Don't discount the buffet, the stations where you cook fresh short ribs/steaks/shrimp is truly one of the best! And the omelette station in the morning! Bring USD for tipping but pesos for spending in the market. Go off resort to bargain with taxis to go into Playa or Cancun, but also: Uber is available! I wish I knew when I went, it would have saved us so much money. Don't take a taxi from the hotel, it's $45 each way.
Also, one last precaution I give you at my own expense: if you're buying something expensive at the market ie: extra anejo tequila, please ensure you watch it wrapped before handing over the money so you don't get fooled into taking home a repasado instead. Spoiler alert: happened to me. Or better yet, just go to a regular liquor store; there's one beside the Walmart in Cancun.

The holiday was everything we hoped for. Our room had a great sea view and a hot tub on the balcony. The hotel was spotless and the staff always polite, helpful and smiling. The restaurants were all good and had extensive menues. The reception at the restaurants always enquired whether there were any allergies and coped with my dietary issues providing alternatives or cooking individually for me without any problems.
When booking we paid a small extra amount and enjoyed a room upgrade, a privileged guest lounge and a separate beach area where had drinks served by waiter service on the beach. The beach was cleared of any seaweed daily - sometimes more than once. The trips we booked from the hotel eith Cancun Adventures were all excellent.

The resort is top-notch and stunningly beautiful. The grand lobby entrance makes a definite impression (and it also duals as sort of a nightclub in the evenings with a great bar – ask for Enrique! – and usually has live entertainment. It’s not a huge resort, so it’s pretty easy to move around, even for those who struggle to do so. My father-in-law has mobility issues, but everything was accessible via ramps for the most part. It only takes three or four minutes to get to any place on the resort by foot and all of it is gorgeous. The plant life, the modern fixtures, and the scenic views from almost every corner really remind you that you are in paradise. The groundskeepers are constantly working on the flowers and foliage and the colors are spectacular. Every inch is landscaped perfectly. Also, I have never been to a resort that was so spotless. They really do spend a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure every location is spotless. They clean each bathroom continually and even sweep the pool decks of water and the pier of sand. After any spill or splash, within seconds it was gone! The entire resort gets an A+ for cleanliness! The food was above average. There are several restaurants to choose from and we had our favorites. The hibachi is standard fare and tasty. But the restaurants we enjoyed most were the Mexican, Italian, and lastly, Oceana. This restaurant is outdoors adjacent to the infinity pool with a stunning view of the beach with soft ocean breezes. It boasts the best seafood soup I’ve ever tasted. I had it three times and each time it was a little different (once it’s had a whole soft shell crab and the next day a huge calamari tentacle). Kudos to this chef, because these meals were perfect from appetizer to dessert. The customer care and service was exemplary. We were treated like royalty and really appreciated having our wedding in this atmosphere. From the moment we arrived, Victor, the valet put us at ease and wouldn’t let us lift a finger. It was great! Emilio and Angel were as amazing as our poolside concierges. Emilio even made us a special display of sand art on our final day. It really touched our hearts. Eddie, Julio, and Octavio in the preferred lounge really take pride in providing time and attention to your needs. Enrique at the grand lobby bar never once forgot me or my wife’s name the entire trip and it felt great to be greeted with a smile and by name each visit. Even Andrea who hosted the breakfast buffet at the World Café and lunch at Oceana did a wonderful job making us feel special. Last, but certainly not least, Paulina was our wedding coordinator. She was sublime in this role and made our special day perfect! She spent lots of time with us beforehand to make sure every detail was perfect. For that entire time leading up to and during the day of our wedding, she as our best friend! We couldn’t have asked for more.

We just returned from the most amazing week celebrating our Wedding At Dreams Riviera Cancún. We found the Resort through researching weddings online and social media. We saw some of the wedding they held at their resort and immediately fell in love. We visited the Resort in Feb 2019 and knew we had to book here. We didn’t have the opportunity to stay here in 2019 as we were siting other hotels.
Fast forward to our stay. We were warmly welcomed by bellman Roberto who took great care of our bags and greeted us throughout our stay every time he saw us. We had checked in at the preferred lounge. All of the staff members in the preferred lounge treated us with 5 star level service. The entire team that worked at the preferred lounge was so nice, but Adolfo stood out to us. He consistently checked on us and asked how we were doing in passing.
Our Wedding Coordinator Fernanda was beyond amazing. From the time we were in contact with her 3 months prior to the wedding, she was great at communicating, offering her suggestions and ensuring everything would be perfect. She worked with our budget to bring our vision to life. She truly exceeded our expectations in all categories for all events we had from the welcome party, rehearsal dinner and wedding day. Our wedding reception was supposed to be at the beach deck outside, however due to the possible thunderstorms, we decided to move it into the ballroom. This wasn’t our original vision, however Fernanda and their amazing team made the ballroom look elegant and just as beautiful as it would’ve outside.
The entire staff made us feel VIP. They also made sure all of our guests felt welcomed and important. Amazing staff members and management to recognize are Bartenders Enrique (lobby bar) & Pedro (beach bar), and Cesar & Rafael.
The only area of opportunities for growth for the Resort are:
- Quicker service at Seaside Grill / Oceana for lunch. Our guests and I ate there on several occasions (separately) and both experienced really slow service. Seaside Grill’s lunch food options could be improved.
- Better customer service with the Concierge employee Alberto. Unfortunately he was not helpful during both encounters we had with him.
Another important area to note is reviews regarding the seaweed on the beach. The staff works extremely hard to clean it everyday. The sand and beach was still very clean and our guests and I still swam in the ocean and went to the beach daily.
All in all, we definitely recommend getting married here or going for a relaxing family vacation. We can’t wait to be back for our one year anniversary!
Dominic & Katrina Williams

I am currently at the Resort. Unfortunately, the beach water looks like sewer water. It would have been nice for the hotel to let us know this when we were booking. I can overlook not being able to enjoy the beach if the food and accommodations make up for it. Here they don’t. You would think with the sargazo situation the resort would at least have amazing food. They don’t. The rooms are missing privacy glass. If a friend stays in the room with you they can watch you shower and use the bathroom. The internet does not work. My son brought his PlayStation and he can’t connect to the internet.
The staff is friendly and accommodating. I did mention my concerns to a manager who was so kind and accommodating but at the end of the day the food and beach are just horrible. I ordered some desserts to my room and one of them The resort also needs to work on their room service waits of 50 min or more. That is way to long for room service. FYI you can’t order a virgin piña colada for some reason either. So far I have a headache. I though the resort was going to be as amazing as it was for me when I stayed 10 years ago. It seems as if quality has gone down a lot. I was planning to stay for 20 days but I have decided to change my stay.

Hello! Dear guest, Thank you very much for your preference at Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa. Regarding your query, it is important to remember that the Quintana Roo region is currently experiencing a higher than normal amount of algae. These algae, called sargassum, float freely and provide essential and natural habitat for many species of fish, including some in danger of extinction. During peaks, such as the one currently being experienced, ocean currents naturally bring sargassum to our shores. The staff of our hotel together with a tractor works diligently from the early hours of the morning to remove everything that the tide brings in order to keep our beaches clean and accessible for the enjoyment of our guests. We encourage our guests to enjoy our "infinity" pool and take in our breathtaking ocean views. Our pools offer proximity to bars, gourmet dining options and entertainment throughout the day, and, most importantly, the service of our friendly and professional staff. Also, we want to apologize if the food was not to your liking, we are certified with "Food check" and "Distintivo H" national and international certifications that value our food and beverages as top quality. We will share your comments with our Operations Committee. Greetings! Julio Leos Social media coordinator Dreams Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa

We enjoyed our week at Dreams Riviera Cancun very much. The resort was very beautiful, also the rooms. We had a jacuzzi in our room and also on the balcony. They cleaned our rooms everyday, and they refilled our fridge everyday and left some snacks, the food was mostly very delicious, specially the tortilla soup from El Patio. BEST tortilla soup I have ever tried! We also really enjoyed the hydrotherapy treatment at the spa which was included because we booked a preferred club room which had some extra amenities. The shows they offered every night were awesome! We were welcomed by Ivan, who made us feel at home. Next, Jennifer took very good care of us to explain everything about the resort and get us checked in. Our last dinner by sea side grill, Jesus, our waiter, gave us the best service ever. And offered to make us a great coffee drink for our dessert. We really enjoyed our stay. One thing we hadn't expected was that each day there would be at least one wedding or more, celebrating their receptions usually in the evening until late with loud music and dancing. Luckily our room was faced the other way so we could still sleep well. But over all, we really had a great time and recommend Dreams Riviera Cancun.

What makes the Dreams Riviera Cancun so special is their Outstanding service. All the staff are really committed to pamper their guests and allow them to have a great experience. This was our sixth time staying at this location and in this particular occasion we were very impressed by the sanitary precautions the Dreams team implemented to fight the Covid-19. The hotel was disinfected daily and looked impeccable. Their staff were wearing mask all the time and there were antibacterial gel dispensers located everywhere. Our temperature was taken at check in and every time we went to any of their restaurants. Food was fantastic and the personal at the "Oceana" (Eliud, Ivette, Javier, Jesus, David, Filiberto) and "El Patio" restaurant excelled providing their service. The chef at Oceana, Filiberto Puc-Chuc even came to our table one night to introduce a couple of special treats he cooked for us. Besides feeling safe and fed properly, we had a great and fun time everyday at the pool, tks to their entertainment team, led by Alejandro Jaimes, Gigi and Daniel. They kept us busy playing sport games, laughing and dancing. The beach was very clean and beautiful despite of the sargasso that had to be clean out everyday, unfortunately we could not enjoy any of the water-sport activities given the Government restrictions ruling due to Covid. We are definitely looking to returning soon to this hotel.

This was my families first stay at a Dreams Resort. We were very pleased with our stay. The three things that made our stay wonderfully memorable was the service, the property, and beach.
The service was the best we have ever experienced in a resort setting. The service was amazing in every area of the resort. Special acknowledgements to to Eduardo at the Preferred desk, Richardo, Victor, and Israel, pool service, Alberto at the Preferred beach bar, Alex, with entertainment, and Dani, pool concierge. Everyone of them remembered our families name, so very welcoming and accommodating. Truly went above and beyond.
The property was small in comparison to other resorts that we have visited. Mostly a short walk to where ever you needed to go on the property. Very well maintained and always clean. You never seen food or drink dishes left unattended without being collected.
The beach was gorgeous and functional. Not sure if it was the location or the time of year, but there was very little seaweed. What was there was cleaned up by hardworking staff everyday. The sand is powder soft and the water is very swimmable. We utilized the kayaks and paddle boards available for use by quests and had fun with that. We wish we would have taken the opportunity to reserve a time to have a 'guided" sailboat ride. There is enough space to throw a football, join in a match of beach volleyball, or find a quiet place to relax.
We traveled with another family that had upgraded to Preferred at the time of booking, because of this we wanted to do the same and were able to do so at check-in. Although we did not experience the Preferred check-in process, it was still very quick and smooth. With Preferred you do have access to the Preferred lounge, a section of the beach with a bar (great service there), and cabana use at the beach or pool (one day per room is complimentary and must reserve at least a day in advance).
We really have no complaints of our stay and would definitely stay again. We do have two teenage children, 14 and 16. The pros for them was the beach and poolside grill. In comparison to other resorts we have visited in the Riviera Maya, Dreams was definitely more low key. They did miss more pool activity offerings during the day, geared for the younger/energetic crowd, but not a deal breaker for us to visit again.

Yes, this was our 8th vacation to Dreams Riviera Cancun. One might ask, why do we keep returning to this property with so many options available in the Mayan Riviera?
First and foremost, the simple answer is the STAFF and the level of consistency across our "major areas" that we care most about; beach, food, quality drinks, quality accommodations, and cleanliness.
This trip we were very pleased to see the return of the "Mexican Fiesta and Show" on Wednesday nights around the pool area. We have always loved this event and over the previous two years, this event was not scheduled. Also, we love how Dreams Riviera Cancun continues to offer additional options at the pool for lunch (Tortas, Tacos, Paella, etc.).
Many people continue to inquire about the Beach status, as with most of our trips in February, this past week's beach conditions were basically great to excellent. Minimal seaweed, warm water temperatures, and staff cleaning the beach throughout the day.
As I have already mentioned the staff this vacation were excellent and it was great to see many familiar faces. I want to extend a huge thank you to the following staff members for another great vacation:
Aldofo: Preferred Club Manager
Alfredo: El Patio Server
Orlando: Bordeaux Server
Armando: World Cafe Server
Oliver: World Cafe Omelet Man
Rafael: Preferred Club Beach Bar
Octavio: Preferred Club Bar
Lucas: Pool Life Guard
Beatrice: Explorers Club
Pedro and Santiago: Preferred Club Beach
Israel: Beach Waiter/Server
Mauricio: Beach Bar
Most important is that these individuals truly do influence our/your vacation. They all work tirelessly to make your vacation an exceptional experience. Invest some of your time to get to know these wonderful people. Keep in mind a friendly conversation and tips go a long way. Over the years, we truly look forward to reconnecting with so many of these staff members!
Our favorite restaurants once again were El Patio and Seaside for dinner, World Cafe for breakfast, and lunch this year we enjoyed the options poolside.
We had a wonderful walk into Puerto Morelos for shopping and lunch at La Playita. La Playita was great. The walk is about 30-40 mins from Dreams.
Overall, we had another wonderful experience this February once again. This trip we traveled with additional family and friends. Everyone truly enjoyed themselves!!!!
Thank you Dreams Riviera Cancun and staff for another great week in paradise!
Muchas Gracias!

We spent New years at Dreams Riviera Cancun and loved it! The restaurants were outstanding with great food and wonderful staff! Our favorite place to eat was El Patio, their Mexican restaurant. El Patio had great food from various places in Mexico and was beautifully decorated. The best part about our visit to El Patio was our waiter, Alfredo. He was outstanding from giving recommendations, explaining the menu, and entertaining us for the night! Alfredo at El Patio truly makes his guests feel at home! We spent most of our evenings trying out the restaurants. Typically we went to the World Cafe (Buffet) for breakfast only. Oliver at the Mexican station in the World Cafe made the best omelets! Something we could not get over was how cool the sand stayed. We have never experienced sand that did not get hot. The sand on the beaches in Cancun stays cool even when it is sunny and warm. This resort was well maintained and housekeeping always did a great job organizing, cleaning, and refiling our refrigerator with drinks. New Years eve was a blast and we enjoyed the nightly entertainment at the resort. During our stay we noticed many families with young kids and many people that stayed up partying.
Some tips if you are planning a visit:
-Get out early and put your stuff in beach chairs, They have a rule against this, however have a hard time enforcing it. The only way that we were able to get any beach chairs was to break this rule.
-Get to dinner early, when we visited the Resort was very busy and the only way we could get seated quickly was being there when the restaurants opened. We were also a bigger group (6 people).
-Reserve a hibachi table at Himitsu for one of your dinners! Did not disappoint, can reserve at the restaurant or at front desk i believe (do days in advance).
