Husband and I stayed in one of the beachfront units for 4 nights. I knew that there is a public walkway in front of the units which goes along the beach - so not overly private, but the view was worth it. Pros: Fantastic view of the beach and really close to it New carpet and recent painting noted Good size unit Comfortable bed and couch Walking distance to cafe, pub, shop Very quiet while we were there Cons: Bathroom is a bit dated, shower is quite small and the toilet is in a little alcove so might be a tight fit for larger people Appliances likely to need replacing soon The owner was friendly; I gave him some feedback about a few things we noted in the unit that needed attention which he took note of and was grateful for the feedback Overall, I think it is a wee bit expensive at $200 a night for what you get - but then you are paying for the location/position of the unit.…
Tried to get a beachfront view but sold for the nights we wanted to stay despite booking 6 weeks early. Stayed in 2 bedroom unit, being unit 3. This was an older style unit, had been gradually renovated over the years, Sunshade / bug blinds on all windows which was appreciated. Used unit’s kitchen facilities to prepare most meals as stay coincided with level 2 short lockdown. Used onsite laundry facilities.
Our third stay here and it remains a firm favourite, mainly due to excellent location right on Pohara beach. Starting to look a little worn in places, but units are charming, quiet, well appointed and comfortable. Cafe, a takeaway and a pub/ restaurant all within walking distance. Beach is fantastic, very shallow and good for children.
My wife and I have already spent six weeks on a road trip around the South Island and have just spent four days in unit 11 of this motel (a beachfront unit) which we booked based upon the details shown on their website and tripadvisor reviews. When we arrived we discovered that there is a public walkway/cycleway between our unit and the beach. The unit has plenty of large windows providing stunning views across the expansive sandy beach which gave us very pleasant easy access to walks. It was clean, tidy, and well presented with a new looking carpet fitted throughout, a comprehensive kitchen, suitable furnishings and a comfortable bed. The bathroom was small, very basic and in need of an update, although everything functioned adequately. The TV channel choice was rather more limited than we had been used to on our travels. Pohara is in a spectacular location in Golden Bay and the weather was very good when we were there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the cost at $180 per night was very good value for money…
We stayed in unit 4 and thought the room was fresh clean and tidy. The walk up the steps was planted well with natives which we thought overseas tourists would appreciate even bird life seen there. The whole complex was so tidy paint fresh plants trimmed. The view and proximity to the beach was AWESOME
