Detailed Reviews

My MX-5 car club decided to drive to The World's Longest Place Name today, and stop for lunch at the Herbertville Hotel. We had planned the trip for nearly a year, but weather and lockdown stymied our previous attempts. Finally, here we were here, on a glorious day.
The hotel staff were helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable throughout the many months this process took. Our group of 25 were presented with an excellent country pub buffet lunch, which included fresh, tasty salads, roast dishes, BBQ steaks (done perfectly) and lots of chips.
Herbertville is located on one of the best East Coast beaches, and the drive in from State Highway 2 is suitably fun for people who love twisty roads. It's a long day out from Wellington, but there are rooms at the pub and on-site vans & cabins at the campground across the street.
A wonderful drive and a fantastic lunch provided by the Herbertville Hotel staff.

We went to the hotel once for morning coffee which was absolutely delicious and the home made giant chocolate chippy biscuits were yummy.
We went for tea new years day. The menu had limited options due to stock selling out but still had an enjoyable meal of Terakihi chips and salad with the secret recipe salad dressing. Art was the chef and boy can he make a simple meal taste delicious. The iced water was served with a slice of lemon and was enjoyed by both of us. We will definitely be back both for the food and accommodation.

Lovely food, warm and friendly welcome to many VERY wet motorcycle riders. Accomodation basic, and met our needs; warm and clean. Provided tea and coffee, shower lovely and toilets clean. Let us drape our wet riding gear all over the fireplace in the main pub. Fun on the karaoke!

We had a night at the hotel earlier this week. We don't agree with the top of the range glowing reports. Nice people, but no key to room and NO HOT WATER for showers (cold only, we think gas was turned off and no one on duty until 1100) and the butter left for us for breakfast was MOULDY. The $10 per head for breakfast was definitely not worth $20 for two.

I visited the the Inn while staying at Herbertville for a couple of days. The owners are friendly, good price menu and the locals offer good chat. Such a nice environment to stay and will definitely visit Herbertville again soon.

We had a really relaxing and nice time in Herbertville. The Herbertville pub and inn had a great room for our 2 night stay. Comfortable bed and the hosts were super accommodating. Very nice folks and did I mention the meals at the pub were fantastic! Tasty, generous portions. Our stay overall was super affordable too.
Having a pat with the friendly family dog was a highlight being a dog lover. :-) Thanks again. L & A Bell

Wow, from when we stepped into this place, there was no hospitality like the other reviews described. no hello, no how can i help you, just like a stare with a piece of paper in hand. If you can't great a customer, then are you sure this job is for you? brought the drinks and ordered our meals, with a bit of disruption from kitchen staff, the custodian didn't even ask us to hang on a second and started to talk to her while half way though ordering... so rude! but even with the kitchen staff asking questions, the guy just didn't know the answers and didn't even try to resolve what ever it was that needed to be done.
The kitchen staff must be more on to it as our meals come out fast and pretty good. but even our meals didn't have any greens on it like most pubs and taverns, a basic coleslaw is easy to make from raw ingredients and last a long time in the fridge (as far as it is away from civilization). So the 1 star is really for the kitchen staff.... Ordered desert... 3 caramel sundaes and one chocolate, this was written down in front of my partner... if you are not going to show and give the kitchen staff the actual order, then why write it down at all??(again simple hospitality that just isn't followed!!!!) they got it wrong, so simple and so far off the mark... had to tell my kids shut up and eat so we can get out of here... 3 chocolate and 1 caramel... yes i got some moans from my kids, but if I said something, I wonder how much the kitchen staff would have gotten into trouble when it was the guys fault as during the night, we could tell his communication towards anyone wasn't good at all... why was he there? if it was the owner, get someone else in and step back, it is not for you!
If you have read all of this, I would suggest to give the Wimbledon Tavern more of your time as it had a warmer welcome, great food and gave us more of their time and hospitality.

Wow Simon, sorry your evening was such a disaster. We do strive to give our customers a great atmosphere and a pleasant meal that they can recommend to others and I believe we achieve this 99% of the time. The feedback from our customers are that we have great pizzas and the best fish and chips around. Our Scotch fillet steaks are generous and appreciated as are the Chicken Parmigianas. The accompanying salads are creative and fresh. Unfortunately on this occasion our chiller partially froze our lettuce and ended up being given to our chickens. We try to source our veges locally and as you are likely aware Herbertville is an hours drive away from a town to purchase more. Another contributing circumstance to your disastrous evening is that it was a long weekend and we were busier than normal on a Saturday evening so I apologize if I did not give you the welcome and full attention that you were wishing for. Your sundaes were prepared by a 16yr old helping us for the weekend. She has done a fantastic job helping in kitchen. Again, it just wasn't your day Simon. I am happy for you to take your business elsewhere. Regards Ian.

No lock on my door (Rm4), the other 2 were not given a key. No cellphone coverage, no soap, no rubbish bins. The steak meal was perfect but the nachos were days old and re-heated so the chips were stuck to the bowl,Lots of sour cream on top to hide it but it was Nasty! The panini was soggy. Yuk. The shower was so high pressured that when I turned the dial to hot, I couldn't turn it back quick enough to stop being scalded. The sleeping area is off from the smokers area and smoke went up the hallway! Worst was when I checked the strange smell and found a mouldy rolled up carpet under the bed (see photo). The attached bar music went on till 1am and the bass sound prevented all 3 of us from sleeping. Even going out to tell them didn't make it stop. They are more concerned about their boozy patrons than their sleeping guests. We left at 9am and they still hadn't surfaced..no coffees for us :( Never going back there!

Nice country pub atmosphere
I like the relaxed rustic style
I left a beanie behind and they went out of their way to let me know and delivered it to my home in Hawkes Bay. Often hotels don't bother about lost kit
Much appreciated
