Nestled in a picturesque location, the JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa is lauded for its spacious rooms with direct pool access, despite some comments about mustiness and wear. The resort atmosphere is generally considered inviting, with modern decor, though busy spots can detract from the tranquility. Staff members receive accolades for their exceptional service, contributing to a memorable stay.
While the on-site dining may carry a premium price tag, the comprehensive amenities, including a pristine pool and diverse activities, are popular among guests. However, noise can be an issue for some, even though the resort's overall cleanliness is highly praised.

We had a great stay at this 5-star resort, being well looked after as Titanium Bonvoy members (breakfast, room upgrade part way through, and late checkout). Both rooms were well maintained, and in keeping with the rest of the resort, they are spacious. The pools are truly massive, and the lazy river goes on forever. Adults have their own pool, beach area, and breakfast dining room. The breakfast was superb with great service. We ate at the Drift main restaurant twice (excellent) and the Thai restaurant (very good). The beach bar is lovely for evening drinks, with very good live singers on some nights. There are half a dozen beach restaurants adjacent to the hotel for cheaper food. There's a chargeable shuttle to Bang Niang market and its many bars & restaurants 15 minutes away, with taxis being 300 baht. The staff throughout the resort are so friendly. Our only gripe is to do with the management of sunbeds. Whilst there are loads on the beach and around the pools, and they are comfortable with good towels provided, the prime location ones at the beach, and those with extra shade, were all reserved by mid-morning. We didn't see any staff addressing this, as at least half these beds were effectively unoccupied for hours at a time. Also, tidying up used towels and plates was infrequent. This ought to be addressed at a resort of this quality. Apart from that, this is a superb place for a relaxing holiday.

This property is amazing because its spread out and so even when there is full occupancy, it never seems busy. The grounds lend themselves to a relaxing experience. The rooms are lovely and many on 1st level are "swim out". The 5-6 restaurants will keep you from feeling bored and the 3-4 "enormous" weekly themed buffets are priced right and abundant! Loved the Waterfront where breakfast was served but suggest they lower the volume on the music so the room is not so loud. Given that you arrive early, best to eat outside on patio anyway. one suggestion is to re think how you serve coffee so its more efficient and results in less waiting for 2nd cup. The staff at this hotel are genuinely warm, friendly and kind, and its part of the Thai culture for sure. Very happy with the 199 THB nightly happy hour, the bamboo shark seminar and I also took the mixology seminar and had a really fun time. The rooms are very clean and housekeeping is excellent but would have preferred turn down between 7-9 pm instead of at 5:30 or 6 PM because its awkward to invite the housekeeper in when you are showering and dressing for dinner. The beach at this property is clean, convenient and the water temp is around 92 degrees so really easy to swim. The serene spaces near the adult end of the enormous, warm and comfortable swimming pool are terrific quiet retreats for couples looking for quiet spot to sun bathe while reading or relaxing. I know that the chain has a sister hotel in Phuket but this one in Khao Lak is far less crowded and its worth the 75 min drive from airport to get a much more exclusive feeling experience. This hotel has nighty entertainment like the fire show which is a fun experience and the couple singing in the beach bar who are very talented and add so much to the bar's ambience every night. Drift has a DJ keeping a high tempo going there. I am a "lifetime" Marriott Titanium member and I can say with confidence that this hotel is a sure thing and will exceed your expectations on your vacation.

A wonderful 3 week holiday that left nothing to be desired. A fantastically well maintained complex, super friendly staff, cleanliness wherever you go and look, starting with the rooms further to all dining areas, to the toilets within the complex as well as to the beach, an always friendly courteous staff. You can feel that you are a welcome guest here on all levels. There is only the very best quality in the theme nights as well as in the food offered. On the beach, meticulous care is taken that no sunbeds are reserved and this is especially commendable to mention. It was our second stay and certainly not the last. This house with its entire team is simply beautiful and can be recommended with a clear conscience. Thanks for the wonderful relaxing time.

Review of JW Mariott Kho Lak – A 5-star paradise for the whole family!
I had the pleasure of spending three weeks at JW Mariott and I can honestly say it was an unforgettable experience for both me and my children. This hotel is truly a 5-star paradise that lives up to all expectations!
Food experiences: The food at the hotel is one of the biggest highlights. The restaurants offer a variety of dishes that satisfy both adults and children. From tasty local specialities to international classics, everything is prepared with quality in focus. The kids especially loved the child-friendly menus, and we greatly appreciated the healthy options.
Beach and activities: The beautiful beach is right outside the door, with soft sand and clear water. There is little traffic, so we felt safe while the kids were playing. The hotel offers free use of SUP board, boats and board, which gave us many fun moments on the water. The sunsets from the beach were simply magical!
Facilities for children: The hotel has a great play area for the kids, and there was always something fun to do. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they did their best to make sure both children and adults were well.
Pool experience: We loved the 2.4 km long freshwater pool! It was perfect for both children and adults, with areas suitable for all ages. We spent many hours there and it was always easy to find a sunbath.
Room and service: Our rooms were lovely, with direct exit to the pool. They were spacious, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities we needed. The service was always friendly and helpful, making the stay even more pleasant.
Conclusion: Although the hotel is in the higher price range, we feel that it is definitely worth every dollar. The quality of food, service and facilities are of the highest standard. I highly recommend JW Mariott to families looking for a relaxing holiday with fantastic experiences!
Thanks for a fantastic stay – we will be back guaranteed!

From the moment we walked into the JW Khao Lak, we fell in love with this amazing hotel. The staff is fantastic too and they’re so welcoming. We arrived a bit earlier than our scheduled check-in time, but they immediately invited us inside and brought us some refreshing organic coconut ice cream with lemon grass. It was the perfect treat on such a hot day! Our two little girls had an amazing time checking in on a coconut canoe boat that brought them straight to our door. The room was stunning, located on the third floor, and we had an outdoor shower that looked incredible. They also prepared additional bedding for my mother before we even asked. The amenities were so thoughtful and delicious. My husband is a Lifetime Titanium Elite member so the next day, they upgraded us from an Executive Suite to a Villa (the largest one) which had 3 separate houses such as a kids’ house, master bedroom, living room, and two personal pools right next to the beach. The sunset view was breathtaking. The beaches are so beautiful and clean, they have separate zones for adults and families. Everything is provided - kids’ toys, swim gear, even sunscreen. It’s completely safe, with no rocks on the bank. The pools are amazing, the longest, infinity pool I’ve ever seen, and the Water Park is fantastic. It’s never too crowded because they have so many fun things to do. The kids’ club is great too, we only went once and loved it. They had a magician class, and the kids were begging to go back again. Oh, and they have a bamboo shark nursery so, the day after our visit they left a surprise for our girls – a child-size tent with a plush bamboo shark inside for my daughters. It was a wonderful surprise! The breakfast buffet is fantastic - they have all sorts of national food, gluten-free options, and a variety of seasonal fruits. The hotel has about 10 dining restaurants, so we tried each of them and they were all amazing and so delicious. The rooms are modern and very clean. Housekeeping comes twice a day, and they always leave us nice amenities like fresh fruits, drinks, snacks, and so on. They also have a garden and a farm, and we had an amazing tour with Joy (their biologist), we pet the animals, we fed the chickens, and we tried the juice from a Nipa Palm fruit. The motorpool was fantastic - vehicles were always clean, fast Wi-Fi, cold water, and a great driver. You could even ask for a car seat or two if you needed them. We had a blast watching the fire shows and the Thai cultural evening event. I want to thank all the staff, especially General Manager Natasha Low, for being so professional and dedicated to their work. They helped us create such wonderful vacation memories and made us feel like we were at home. This place is incredible!

Beautiful resort outside of Khao Lak Amazing beach and fantastic pools. We loved having swim up rooms.
We also chose this hotel because we are a coeliac family and wanted to ensure that there were safe options to eat on site.
Buffet breakfast was great, with allergens clearly labelled on all dishes. They can also make gluten free waffles, pancakes, crepes and toast in a separate area, and will cook other dishes such as egg fried rice for you on request. They can also provide gluten free cereal for kids. At £20 per head it's expensive but there is a lot of choice.
At the beach bar, we were able to order gluten free burgers, pizza and pasta, which were prepared in other kitchens and brought to the beach for us. On site restaurants can also cater for gluten free, and all staff we spoke to had a good understanding of gluten free
We ate out most evenings rather than stay at the hotel - 300B each way to Khao Lak for a huge choice of restaurants, bars and shops to visit.

This is a lovely but very large hotel. Arriving directly from the Santhiya on Yao Yai, the Marriot lacks an authentic Thai flair. Therefore however it is very clean and excellently maintained, offering a very long pool which snakes through most of the resort.
Rooms are in five parallel bunker-like tracts. Ours in #4 butted up to the edge of the resort. The view to the courtyard and pool are was great, and on the higher floor rarely too loud.
One downside of this being a Marriott is that you clearly get the feeling you are in a hotel in the USA that is trying to limit their liability risk. Warning signs abound; "Do not jump from the bridge", is just one of many. At every restaurant, and at every meal, you are asked if you have any food allergies - a nice idea, but could be handled more discreetly at check-in and noted in the guest profile. By having the server ask you at every interaction feels like the legal department warned the hotel to do so. The room design feels very western, which is fine but nothing special.
The on site restaurants are rather expensive, even for western standards. There is a revolving special event at each of the four main restaurants every night, meaning that restaurant is closed unless you reserve the special dinner package (at a higher than usual price). You MUST make reservations for dinner regardless of where you go, or plan to eat late. The restaurants close around 10pm, which makes it difficult to come without a reservation, be seated at 9pm and still be able enjoy a leisurely dinner.
The beach is great; the hotel location is unbeatable. You can (and should) walk to some of the local eateries directly to the left of the hotel, which offer an authentic 'on the beach' eating experience.
The hotel does an excellent job of segregating areas for adults vs children. We were pleased at how this was managed.
Although it might seem attractive to have a pool access room, it does equate to a certain lack of privacy as other guest will be swimming or floating directly in front of your room's Pool-Level terrace.
Be sure to visit the 'sanctuary' areas, one of which offers large, pillowed lounges for couples, looking out onto a pond of water lilies.
Ken at the check-in desk was very helpful - a big thank you to him!

We stayed bed and breakfast in a swim up room and really loved it. The room itself was very classy with a beautiful bathroom, the bed was enormous and very comfortable and the air conditioning was really good. We only used the adult only breakfast restaurant and sunbed area on the beach. There was a huge choice of everything at breakfast although we found the bread disappointing compared to what we are used to in European resorts, I suspect bread is not such a big thing in Thailand. The beach area was really lovely with comfortable beds and a constant supply of towels. I thought it was great that the hotel provided chilled water that you poured yourself from a container that was constantly topped up with beakers provided, much better than plastic bottles of water. The staff were so polite and helpful without exception. There are a number of beach bars and restaurants just alongside the hotel and we enjoyed a lot of meals at Be Friend, the prices are so reasonable and the quality was good. We had a barbecue buffet and an Indian buffet at the hotel both of which we enjoyed. The beach is beautiful with lovely soft sand and warm sea, you can walk for miles with very few people about. We used the hotel shuttle bus to visit the market which sells all the normal goods you would expect to see. The two little shops just outside the entrance to the hotel grounds sell drinks, crisps etc and the fridge in the room is left empty so you can fill it with whatever you want which is much better than having a mini bar that you have to empty for your own stuff. We came to the hotel following a recommendation from friends and we would not hesitate to recommend it to others. My daughter and her family are going in just over two weeks time, she has seen all my photos and can’t wait.

We had a gorgeous 10 day holiday at the resort and barely left the complex. Despite this the food never got repetitive and was always of a high standard and we ate at all 4 main restaurants.
The staff were brilliant with our 2 small kids and there was always something for them to do between the expansive pool and kids club offerings.
We loved our room in the newly done out block near the kids pool. It was swim up and we never once felt intruded upon or suffered any noise pollution. I would however have been really disappointed had we been placed in any of the other blocks that hadn’t been renovated as they looked very shabby and unkept from pool entrance level.
The beach was really clean and looked after well and the drinks prices were reasonable. There is a local 7/11 style shop just outside the limits of reception that was cheaper for drinks and snacks to keep in the room.
The spa was of a really high standard and I would definitely look to use it again if we return.
There was lots of wildlife to be spotted in the grounds which were all kept to a very good standard too.

This 5 star hotel is not cheap and food/drinks purchased in the resort are expensive. Having said that it is still good value, bedroom are large well fitted and maintained spread though out the resort. The building and walkways are constantly being freshly painted to maintain standards and the cleaning thought out the resort is superb. The food is good quality with choice of restaurants and a different themed buffet every night. Large kids club and many facilities for children of all ages, so there are a large number in the resort, but for adults there are separate breakfast restaurants and separately reserved areas and bed beds on the beach, where on under 12 allowed.

I dont think you will have more privacy at Wing 6 and 7 as it is very popular among families. Yes, there are some bushes but it’s never going to give you much of privacy. If you want more privacy choose Suite 1 pool access. It’s further from the kids main pool and restaurant. But you are very close to a Grand ballroom. If there is no event, then Suite 1 is a place to be. Hope it helps
