Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our powered site had unobstructed views of the small bay. The camp staff were so helpful and even lent us chocks for parking the camper van. Even though it was mid winter, we very much enjoyed our stay here and also walking round to the next bay.

Camp setting is spectacular and we loved the location and the facilities were great and up to date.Unfortunately we found the office staff unfriendly and rude and the black waste sump was unusable due to being blocked. We were not informed of that fact nor was there any signage. In saying that we would still use the location again.

We had a cabin in this lovely absolute beachfront camp site. The cabin was simple but had everything we needed or expected, including a magnificent view of the sea. Shared facilities were well maintained and clean. We just swam and walked, but the area is clearly a magnet for people wanting to boat and fish.
A week here would be perfect.

Went to help some friends set up and they tried to charge us $5 per person just to visit. Shockingly rude and abusive staff. Some of them clearly have anger issues. Definitely will not be coming back. Do not recommend.

Drove down to the beachfront with kayaks and saw that there was nowhere to park - however for $5 we could park in the camp ground. So off I went with my $5 and asked to park for a few hours. Well oh dear... The woman at the office looked at me as if I was a worm that had crawled up to her door. She snatched my money and told me to park "at the back out of the way" Her general demeanor meant I felt very unwelcome and wondering why they were offering parking when it seemed to upset them so much. Would not come back and have found somewhere else to park next time. :(

Sorry you had this experience. I have NO idea who was in the office when you came in. At "Off Peak Season" non campers are welcome to park in the camp.

The woman in the the office was rude when we checked in.
She needs to work on her customer service skills and she isn't a very approachable person.
The place is run down!
I flipped our blanket to find grass and a couple of stray hair on the sheet. Thankful we took our own bedding.
The cabins need some work.
We stayed in cabin 5 and we had family in another cabin. We originally wanted a motel room there but we're told none were available.
They are outdated.
The sink was blocked and they already know that because there's a plunger under the sink.
There were cob webs in and outside the cabins.
My son was to scared to sleep on the top bunk because of the big 🕷️ and cob webs. I got rid of the cobwebs so he would sleep in his bed.
The deck on one side looks like it might collapse.
Only 3 of the 4 showers were working. The disabled shower is broken and you had to hold the shower head as it has nothing to hang on.
The distance from the cabins to the bathroom and kitchen is a little far (we already knew this).
The kitchen could do with a deep clean.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Whangaruru is a beautiful place and has a lot of beauty to be seen just not this camp grounds.

Small campsite right on the beachfront. Well kept, friendly staff, spotless facilities. Showers had free hot water. Right at the end of the road - access to next bay along foreshore at low tide! Stayed at beachfront powered site

What a Wonderful place to stay. One of the best kept secrets in New Zealand. Off the Main track. But that is exactly what you want when you visit this place. Very quiet and serene.Great location. 50 mtrs. from the beach at worst. Had 2 nights in Motel room. Very comfortable. Has everything you need for the 2 day - 2 week stay. Lots of friendly people including the Hosts Rob & Stan. Great Swimming. Fishing, Canoeing, Walking etc. If you are looking for the Ritz or Hilton. Book at those places in the City. Highly recommended place to stay and relax and enjoy yourselves.

Stayed here as part of the TA walk, in an on-site van. Was nice not to have to set up the tent. Friendly and helpful staff and a coffee shop!!, although not open in the morning for us early start people. Facilities were nice and clean. Very family friendly.

Yes you may use the showers at a small cost and the laundry facilities. The washing machines are coin operated and the dryers are token operated. Yes we also have a dump and grey water station available to visitor at a small charge. Free to our campers.

Can we leave a caravan here on a semi permanant basis?
Answer from Robynne C
Auckland Central, New Zealand3 contributions2 helpful votes
Hi there, yes we have a holding storage bay down the back of the camp where our regulars leave their caravans until they come for their next visit. There is a storage charge on this. We do not have long term stayers here, but storage of your caravan is fine.
