Had a nice stay with our small family here. Welcoming hosts, comfortable and basic rooms, quiet location. Our bed was a bit too soft, and it was a bit cramped sometimes. But the hosts were accommodating and quick to respond to any requests. Plus just a few min walk to beach. Would recommend to friends.

I spent 5 days at the Oakura Beach Motel with my Lesbian partner her sister and brother in law. We had a great time! the motel is not the biggest or the newest but ideal for a quiet retreat in a great setting close to the beach and a short drive from New Plymouth.
The rooms were spacious, comfortable, ultra clean and had all the amenities that we needed for a good self catering holiday. The owners gave us a welcome pack, and fresh fruit straight from the trees in their garden. Diane (one of the owners) serves a great breakfast, and we were lucky enough to experience some of her home baking. Derek's extensive DVD library is made available to guest ideal for a chill out on a rainy day.
We were made to feel extremely welcome during our stay, and the owners are a mine of information about the local (and surrounding) area.
We will DEFINATELY be returning.

Stayed here last year (2009)...tried to review at the time but this property wasn't listed on Trip Advisor at that stage. A group of us had five rooms for a family event in Oakura, New Plymouth.

I was a little sceptical at first..thinking it looked a little old on it's Website ( website doesn't do it justice )...however I enquired over the phone...got a great feel for the place and the owners and got a good nightly rate..on check in I was in for a very welcome surprise. I just loved this cute little motel to bits.

This Motel is tucked away in luscious, immaculate grounds. The Owners David and Diane ( I hope I got that right!!) were so lovely..welcoming and hospitable. I was on my own for my first few nights and they really looked out for me...although I felt super safe and cozy here.

The rooms were perfect and everything was thought of...from a tea pot...for REAL CUPS OF TEA...to extra blankets, a hot water bottle...full kitchen..comfy bed, lounge furniture etc etc. I had a car park right outside my room and this Motel was all I could have wished for and more. Yes the place is a little dated..but not tired or old looking...well maintained that's for sure. It is super clean. I have NEVER seen a stainless steel bench top and shower tray shine so much. It's the cleanest place I've ever stayed in and I am super fussy. The decor, the general feel to the place reminds me of a good, genuine kiwi bach ( with all mod cons ). It is quaint..has kiwi charm..and it's so quiet and tranquil. If you can get past having to stay in a super new motel..with sterile rooms etc...then stay here...you'll have a genuine holiday. I had people next to me who stay here every year. I can see why .It's like a home from home...and nostalgic in the sense that its quite kiwiana-ish....and had all you need. The rooms were serviced daily. The hosts the nicest couple you could wish to meet. I felt like they genuinely loved their Motel and this showed in the warmth and care they showed us all. Thanks ever so much. You two are a great team.....Fantastic

Oakura is just lovely. The beach is spectacular...black sand...amazing sunsets...quaint cafe/bakery...a cheerful pub/restaurant...with small town charm and friendliness. Good hearty meals and well priced. New Plymouth is an easy drive...if you want a town day...and shopping is pretty good too.

We stayed at the Oakura beach Motel after considering many options in the New Plymouth area. From 5 star hotels etc...we chose this little beauty. Our needs were met ( we had a few family members and needed different room sizes etc)...Oakura Beach Motel fitted the bill..and whats more...we all felt so chilled out here. I cannot recommend it more highly.

So its with pleasure I write this review... you guys are very deserving of a great review. I just love your place and have let all our friends know. Top people, top accommodation = top class relaxing holiday. Thanks a million.

Stayed here over Queens birthday weekend - found this place by just driving by. Stayed in a studio room, very clean and comfortable with a full kitchen. Nice new bedspreads. Shower (no bath). Quiet and a 2 minute walk to Oakura surf beach. Walking distance to a Four Square, Fish n Chip shop, restaurant, sports bar, chemist. 10 min drive to New Plymouth central. A place to go when you want to totally relax and get back to basics. Really nice hosts who just left us to it (exactly what we wanted).

Not the Hilton but fantastic value for money and a very good three star option.

2 x heaters, electric blankets AND hot water bottles - well equipped for cold winter nights.

Only downside was there was meant to be Sky TV but couldn't get Sport or movies (I don't mind but other people may do) .. and shower isn't the greatest pressure, but does the trick.

Would stay here again for sure.

This is a great little motel not that far by car out from New Plymouth's CBD. The new owners were friendly and very helpful. (We hope they have success.) The motel is close to the beach and only a short trip to beautiful public gardens of New Plymouth. We only stayed a night due to our timetable but would have enjoyed a longer stay to see the sites of New Plymouth and the local area. It is not a large motel, but it is this quiet environment that made it feel homely. We would return here on our next visit.

This was at least the second time, and probably the third, that we've stayed at the Oakura Beach Motel. We wanted to spend some time hiking around Taranaki and also poking around New Plymouth, neither of which we had done for several years. This motel isn't fancy, but it certainly has everything we needed or wanted and we really like how accessible it is to both Taranaki and New Plymouth. The Tasman Sea is right down at the bottom of the road, an easy walk to an excellent beach which is good for walking, running, or just sightseeing. The hosts couldn't have been more helpful in providing information about other things to see on our trip, one of which was artist Nigel Ogle's Tawhiti Museum (www.tawhitimuseum.com), which is widely acclaimed as the best private museum in the country. It has to be seen to be believed, but we would never have known about this jewel had they not given us a brochure. They also have a beautifully catalogued and extensive DVD collection for their guests' use. We dined one night at the award-winning Okukurukuru Winery just south of New Plymouth, and were both extremely pleased with our meals. We will definitely be staying at the Oakura Beach Motel again the next time we're down in that area.

We traveled to the area for a wedding so just needed a reasonable bed for a couple of nights. This worked well, comfortable bed, kitchen facilities to make our own breakfast, an iron to press our wedding gear, parking at the door, friendly staff and a very friendly cat!

Great location walking distance to the beach and the shops. Great to be able to walk on tracks around the mountain and great to look around New Plymouth and what that part of the Taranaki offers. The motel unit was very comfortable and having a unit around the corner, tucked away was very private. I found the staff friendly.

A peaceful niche (when the neighbours are not mowing lawns) with some mature trees and plants. Not too far from the beach and the township services. Not very modern, but the amenities were there and kept clean and in good order. A newspaper at the door and a range of beverages and some biscuits. Friendly and obliging service ... no bad marks!! A good place to relax away from the midday sun.
