Our group loves this place so much we come back every year. There is something very special about Okororie. This time we stayed two nights in the heritage wing and made use of the golf course and the hot pools. Special shout out to the staff we enjoyed interacting with - Rowena, Lee, Paul, Peter, the talented chefs and the green keepers. Great food from The kitchen (had the scotch fillet both nights it was so good) and a nice selection of reasonably priced wine. My only suggestion is that a coffee machine would be a great addition to the offering.

Loved interior decor and outlook to golf course, which was well-maintained. Room fine, small, but adequate. Hot Springs great. Only downside was outside of hotel which badly needs painting to make it excllent.

We played a round of golf, then had lunch, and then a swim in the hot pools. Each of these was great. The food was terrific, and the pools in their natural uncovered setting adjacent to the Waihou River were great. Highly recommended for couples or for families.

The 7 of us had a lovely stay at the hotel, it is a historic hotel so not really many mod cons like you'd have at a city motel, like air con, sky tv and the modern room services, but the staff were amazing and they were very short staffed, and most staff were on duty from breaky to close. The food was to die for, I think over the 4 days we tried at least 1 of everything and it was all 10/10 A free continental breakfast is available to guest, and each morning there were delicious surprises for the guests, which had you guessing each day what it would be, and hoping for donuts The cabins were kept very nice, clean, warm and towels were serviced daily, a few things had been removed from the room but on request we were given replacements, such as fan (it was 24c), a hand basin plug and a missing tv remote, each cabin had its on spa pool which we had on cold as it was refreshing, coffee/tea were available also but no milk. On the grounds there is a camping ground, tennis course (rackets available) , 3 thermal spring pools, a 9 hole golf course (clubs available to hire) a bar area with a cool jukebox, outdoor cafe/restaurant area, indoor restaurant and internally there were lots of comfy rest areas to sit and chill or play chess/drafts or read and books were also available. I'd recommend this place to all, it was def a great venue for our group to spnd new year, we would go back for sure, and the staff made it the experience it was, thank you each and everyone of you

Second time staying at Okoroire. Couldn't find a motel in Hamilton that had rooms available that wasn't being used as emergency housing. Decided as Okoroire was only 40 minutes from the Tron we'd try our luck for a room. Easy breezy to do a phone booking. Arrived, checked in, place was busy as. Double room in Historical Wing was exactly as expected. Comfy bed.heaos of character. Went to have a few pre dinner drinks and play pool in the public bar. Excellent service from staff. Dinner was fabulous. Huge portions. Dining rooms were busy but meals arrived quickly. Despite the weather deciding to turn nasty slept really well. Up at dawn and down to the pools. The pools are fantastic. Rustic is an appropriate description. Started off in what I have coined the champange pool. Has a fine gravel bottom with bubbles coming up. Wiggle your feet in the gravel and millions of tiny bubbles come up all around you. Pool is deep and set back into the bush. At night if you are really quiet and patient you can spot glow worms up under the edges of the bush. Love the fact that the pools are so natural. No chemicals used as they feed into the Waihou River. They have a beautiful green appearance and are iron rich. Bottom pools feel about 35 degrees. Just slightly less than body temp. The shallow top pool is glorious. It has hot water filling it which you can sit beside if you like it hotter. These pools are not hot hot pools but rather nice just above bath temp. Can stay in them for hours and benefit from their medicinal properties. Back up to the hotel in time for breakfast. Love the selection. Island style donuts are the best There is a cooked menu if you need more than toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, baked goods etc. Wish we could have stayed longer as you really start to relax, unwind and slow down after a few days at Okoroire. Did I mention the golf course? Tennis court? Camp ground? It's like stepped back in time but with comfy beds, great linen, and WiFi. Okoroire with all its quirks is now our favourite place to stay when we need some time out. If you are looking for perfection or slick city experiences this is not the place. If you want to relax and go with the flow then a stay at Okoroire is for you. Derek and Tua are excellent hosts. The staff are equally wonderful. Friendly and attentive.

We came here on a midweek break to basically. This is a great location. We arrived on the Monday of Labour Weekend and the place was obviously buzzing. The bar and the restaurant were well filled but the service was good and we had good portions with our evening meals. There is an old world Victorian feel about the place which the owners have accentuated with historic pictures and photographs around the walls. One of the highlights is the hot water springs that you can use at almost any time of the day. It's a 300 metres walk down a treelined track, but definitely worth the effort to relax and enjoy. The pools were clean and tidy though not as hot as I would have expected. But enjoyable just the same. As with all hotels attention to detail can make a difference. Our room (17) didn't have a soap dish in the shower (missing) and there was a missing curtain holder on the left hand side of the window. The friendliness of the staff should be noted and they are a fund of knowledge about things to do locally. Yes, it did quieten down a bit after Labour Weekend but that's what we came looking for and the bed was comfortable so I would say it was definitely money well spent.

Food - 4 stars. Lots of options . Pizza and burgers great. Bar snacks where yum. Service - 4 stars. Helpful with room arrangements . Checked in on us throughout evening . Friendly. Cleanliness - 3.5 stars (small black hairs in bed sheets ). Our other family room had very clean sheets tho. Facilities - 4.5 stars. A bit tired but fun and heaps of character with bar , pool table, hot springs. . That was all cool fun. Overall - 3.5 stars . Just above average

This is an historic country pub and you’ll need to adjust your expectations accordingly to get the most out of your stay. Our group spent two nights in the historic wing of the hotel. The beds were super comfortable and the linen is more modern than the listing photos suggest. Our group had a fabulous time relaxing and soaking up the olde worlde surroundings in the lounge and restaurant. The hotel has a new team in the kitchen and they are turning out lovely hearty food, although currently on a reduced menu. The service from Deepak was friendly and on point. What really sets this hotel apart however is the fantastic thermal pool complex perched beside the river and surrounded by native bush. Jeff who looks after the pools is really passionate and goes to a lot of effort to make sure they are spick and span. If you’ve got time there is also a golf course and trout fishing on-site. Thanks Derek and Tua for your hospitality - we will be back!

This is such a beautiful spot, and it is such a shame about the management. I used to recommend this place to friends and family, and I will no longer be doing so. I was a camper over Easter and the weather and hot pools were fantastic. The prices went up, and it seemed that these rates were calculated on the spot and to whatever the highest rate they could do. Many amenities did not work, such as the toilet not flushing. There was no information that the hotpools could only be accessed once a day. The camp site was supposed to be secure (everyone was provided with a key and told to keep it locked), but management left the gate open because they ran out of gate keys? These issues were raised upon checkout, with the owner stating they needed to make money somehow. Will probably not ever go back, even though this was my favourite place to camp.

We are sorry the camping experience didn't live up to your expectations. The prices are set to reflect the cost of maintaining the pools and facilities and not calculated on the spot. The Easter weekend was exceptionally busy and the gate keys did run out, the gate was locked at night. The number of time s campers can enter the hot pools during their stay is averaged at 2 to 3 times a day. Most people find that more than sufficient. The person who looks after and cleans the Hot Pools and Campground fixed the faulty toilet as soon as he was aware of the problem. Your response at reception was due to your attitude when reeling off a list of complainants. Nothing appeared to meet with your expectations.
