Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A perfect place to stay while riding the West Coast Wilderness Trail.
Great hosts. Comfortable beds with plenty of room unit to relax & unwind after a day on the trail.
The outside covered deck/patio is huge, which is a great place to chill out (rain or shine).

Comfortable, spacious, clean and well- equipped motel unit. Useful under-cover deck out front. The owners are really
friendly and helpful. Great location for the Wilderness Trail. I would definitely stay here again.

This little place, Kumara, is a tiny little hamlet almost, and this small little Route 73 Motel is the only accommodation there. The folks who run it are very friendly and helpful and the room we had was very neat and tidy and had a nicely kitted little kitchenette area. We only needed one bed and there was room for 6 of us, but it was cheerful and clean and a great place to stay on our travels up the West Coast. You can get a few items at the little general store when you check in for the motel too. Very reasonably price so good value for your dollar.

Stayed here as on the West Coast cycle trail. Three adults in one unit (I think there are just two units total which are joined together). They don’t quite look like the photos now though interiors are similar. It was clean and comfortable and a nice outdoor area for seating was good. The units are behind the store so convenient if you want to buy food or a drink. Friendly owner. Only comment would be it is quite expensive at $200 a night with 3 adults in one room, however I think this is quite typical of the West Coast at the moment. Wifi was not particularly stable and just two TV channels.

Very helpful and friendly owner. Comfortable beds. Great kitchenette. Big and spacious room and bathroom.
Great location if your heading north then south in the same day. Loved the heater.
A big fridge would be handy.

Fantastic rooms representing great value - pictures don’t do it justice. Clean and well appointed. Very friendly and helpful owners who also run the General Store. Kumara is a great place for an overnight stop on the West Coast Wilderness Trail.

This was our destination at the end of day 3 of riding the West Coast Wilderness Trail and after a couple of days of living out of our backpacks we were keen to have some creature comforts.

The accommodation was all we needed with good space for the four of us to use as an overnight base and the comfiest beds of our trip for sure.

Much appreciated that the hosts were happy to look after luggage safely as we continued our trip.

We stayed here for a couple of nights. A very very small town but is a good central location to stay if wanting to visit Hokitika and Greymouth. Very clean and newish. About a 2 minutes walk to the Theatre Royal Hotel which is great for dinner.

We stayed here with two kids and four adults while riding the West Coast Wilderness Trail. The units are tidy, clean and perfect for a group of our size. It’s an easy walk to the Theatre Royal pub and the hosts were very helpful with local attractions (which I was surprised how many there was).

We booked a room in this motel just couple of hours before arrival (through a web-based booking platform) and it worked like a charm! This motel is actually situated in a backyard of a small shop & café, so we instantly knew that the noise will not be a problem. And we were right, it was really quiet at night although we were in the room closest to the street.

From the first moment we arrived, the owners made us very welcome and were very helpful in every way. The room itself was large, lately refurbished and impeccably clean and tidy. It was meant for maximum 6 people but there were only two of us, therefore we had enough space in our hands. The bed was comfortable, the room was equipped with a full size kitchenette and all this was priced very reasonably. Price/quality ratio was actually excellent.

I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone who is in the area and looking for a place to spend a night or two. The morning we left, we were given a home made (huge) donut for the road which was absolutely delicious. So if you are just passing by and not planning to stay, you should at least stop at the café. All in all – thank you Mark & Christina for this great experience!
