The hostel is located in the peaceful village of Elterwater, in the Langdale valley, 15 minutes drive from Ambleside. The area has many walks for people of all abilities, from gentle riverside meanders to the challenge presented by the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Scafell. There is a local Co-op in Chapel Stile and a choice of pubs locally. Banks, shops and other amenities are available in Ambleside. The area is also a favourite for both on and off-road cycling, rock climbing and many other outdoor activities. An ideal overnight stop on the Cumbria way. The hostel is an ideal venue for individuals, families, outdoor groups, schools and college trips.

Thanks for the great review
Hopefully we'll see you again soon
As soon as we checked-in, we were asked to make our own bed. The rooms that we got had 6 beds. Each bed had 2 USB ports and a personal reading light, which are really helpful. The rooms were very clean. The loos and the...More

Thanks for your review. We're pleased you liked us
1. Our first visit to this private hostel and I'm sure it won't be the last.

3. Comfy beds and spotlessly clean facilities.
4. Lovely cooked breakfast.

This is a super place. Clean, welcoming, great food and pleasant other guests to chat to. I much prefer privately run hostels to YHA which struggle to give such a personal service. Well done and thank you to the team.

Rethink your stereotype of a youth hostel. Yes, dorms and shared loos, but spotlessly clean, well equipped kitchens, friendly and hospitable staff making an extra effort to welcome guests. Wifi works. Location is pitch perfect. Only problem is parking. The National Trust car park is...More

Thanks for the great comments.
For info, there is no issue with overnight parking at the National Trust car park despite the sign suggesting otherwise

Thanks for your interest in the Hostel.
There are a number of options to travel by Train or Bus/Coach from Manchester to Windermere or Ambleside in the Lake District. From there the best way to get to the Hostel is to take a short ride on the No 516 bus to The Britannia Inn in Elterwater which is just a couple of hundred yards away. The summer timetable ( which will show a more frequent service) is not yet available but the winter one to is available on the Cumbria.gov website. I hope this is helpful
