The hostel is located in the peaceful village of Elterwater, in the Langdale valley, 15 minutes drive from Ambleside. The area has many walks for people of all abilities, from gentle riverside meanders to the challenge presented by the Langdale Pikes, Bowfell and Scafell. There is a local Co-op in Chapel Stile and a choice of pubs locally. Banks, shops and other amenities are available in Ambleside. The area is also a favourite for both on and off-road cycling, rock climbing and many other outdoor activities. An ideal overnight stop on the Cumbria way. The hostel is an ideal venue for individuals, families, outdoor groups, schools and college trips.

Elterwater hostel holds a special place for me and my friends, and we try to visit every year when possible. It is in an excellent location for some of the best walks in the lakes, with lots of amenities nearby. Although our usual group trip was cancelled this year due to COVID, I was lucky enough to visit the hostel with my household in 2020. The hostel had excellent C19 safety precautions in place and we felt entirely safe during our stay. Communication with staff was brilliant (as always) and we were able to enjoy our stay without any issues. In addition to being C19 secure, the hostel has retained its unique charm, comfy beds, and relaxing environment. We are looking forward to being able to visit again soon. Thank you!

Another wonderful break at Elterwater Hostal, in a most beautiful and restful part of the Lake District. We were made to feel most welcome and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The Pandemic restrictions were diligently observed by the Hostel but weren't disruptive. Andy's local knowledge led us on a great walk from the Hostel, to Lingmoor Fell. Nick's email correspondence before the trip was prompt and helpful. Charlie's welcome and catering were excellent as ever. Thank you all. We look forward to our return.

A friend and I used the Elterwater Hostel for a walking weekend in the Lakes and we found it to be a superb base. The staff were really friendly which helped to live at ease with the Covid restrictions, everywhere was spotless and the food was great. Never too sure we would get into the village pub to eat we went full board and were very well fed and that included the packed lunches to take with us. The location is wonderfully peaceful being off the main Langdale road. I hope to return

I love this hostel, this was my second visit and I just love the location for easy access to walks around the area. It's comfortable and clean and the staff are really knowledgeable and are happy to give advice on local walking options. The breakfasts are great and you can also order a packed lunch and evening meal -very useful when you want to make the most of your day on the hills. The location allows for easy walks from the door, high level walks, as well as use of the local bus service to get to other start points. Parking is great if you are a National Trust member - you can park all day in the nearby parking - if you aren't like me you can drop off your stuff and then find on street parking on the edge of the village. There's no local shop so bring your own snack bars etc. , and cup-a- soups as the hostel provides hot water. They also provide bottles of beer if you want to stay in - although the Britannia Inn isn't just 3 mins away. Altogether I had a briliant time.
