Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's like visiting family really. We've been coming as a group now since 2017 (we think) and it's always the same lovely welcome and very personal service. The team are very good in all aspects. Suffice to say we've booked again for next year! Thanks all, see you soon!

Another great visit to Elterwater hostel, this is the third time I have stayed there and really enjoyed every trip. I am vegetarian and the food is tasty and different each night. The rooms are clean, the bunkbeds are wooden so do not squeak. The showers have good pressure are hot with continuous water, overall a lovely place to stay.

We have been coming for a number of years now, and we are never disappointed. The hostel is clean, the rooms are very cosy, showers are got, people are super friendly and helpful! The packed lunches contain everything you need for a decent hike, and the two-course dinner is nice when travelling with children who might not want to sit with you until you have finished the bottle of wine. Elterwater is our favourite hostel, and not just because the staff keep recommending amazing walks!

I was warmly welcomed by the friendly, helpful staff, and had a really comfortable stay. I particularly appreciated the cosy gas fire that was turned on for my benefit after a miserably wet day out on the fells.

The location, personal welcome and info by the reception staff, food and walkers athmosphere make this one of the nicest hostels I've stayed in the UK. The walk from Grasmere to the village is surprisingly beautiful (every hike is beautiful in the Lake district, but this walk is very unknown and easy)

Warm welcome from Pete and very clean hostel throughout. The breakfast was great so was worth booking as were the packed lunches . Large shared bathroom was kept really clean, stocked up and the showers were good. Great location to set off for a days hiking . Beds were surprisingly comfy too . Rooms are small but adequate enough with 2 usb charge ports each on a shelf by your bed . All in all a more affordable way to stay in the lake District if you're on a budget and with a group of friends

Lovely place to stay for the weekend. Our 6 bed room was roomy enough even with 6 females and other unnecessary stuff with us 😂 We enjoyed the cooked breakfasts. Very plentiful and sets you up for the day. It was lovely to see lots of pretty mugs in the kitchen to use better than having to put up with a small cup. Lots of fridges and shelving available to store your own personal food if self catering. We loved the place and will be back .
