Fretheim Hotel boasts mountain and fjord views and is somewhere you can look, taste, listen and absorb magnificent nature. The hotel is immediately adjacent to the Nærøyfjord UNESCO World Heritage site. This fjord has been chosen as one of the world’s most beautiful destinations several times running! The hotel was built in Swiss chalet style at the end of the 19th century, and over the years has grown and developed in pace with the increase in tourists and travellers using the Bergensbana railway and, later, the famous Flåmsbana railway. The oldest part of the hotel has been carefully restored to reveal beautiful details, with open fires and antique furniture in the lounges, library, conference room and, not least, in all the historical guest rooms. Take yourself on a journey of discovery and enjoy the atmosphere of glory days past.

Stayed in the old American wing of the hotel. Room was beautiful but could improve by adding more shelves in the bathroom for a place to put our toiletries. Dinner buffet was absolutely delicious! Hotel is very clean. Love the decor. Staff are very welcoming.

The hotel is right infront of the railway station. It is cozy and comfortable with a welcoming staff. BE PREPARED if you are travelling to Flam during Christmas and New Year. EVERY shop is shut and there is ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD except a bakery which opens for a few hours. The

Thank you for your review. Happy to hear that you enjoyed our hotel ! For the first time Fretheim Hotel is open all through Christmas and New Year. We appreciate that there is a demand for experiencing the dramatic and beautiful landscape here in Flam also during winter time - and expect this market to grow in the coming seasons. Fretheim Hotel, Flam Bakery and a couple of stores were open all days during these holidays - and for the next seasons I am sure even more businesses in Flam will choose to be open all days.

Great hotel, warm and welcome - reception staff very helpful - we had a very spacious family suite with views out over Flam and towards the Fjord. Comfy beds- even the sofa bed was really supportive. Lovely 2 night stay.

The best hotel in Flam. An old hotel which has been renovated. A simple, clean and a typical traveller lodge with a beautiful view. We tried a typical Flam dinner at the hotel's restaurant consists of Salmon Salad as the opening menu and roasted chicken as the main course.

We had a room on the 3rd floor in the newer wing and were so pleased with it. The spacious room boasted a large, beautifully modern bathroom , super comfortable and cozy beds (with great bedding), and a balcony with wonderful views of the fjord area. After a day of hiking and

I don't know; the first night we dined at nearby Ægir brewery & pub (recommended!), and the second day we had a seminar dinner which I didn't pay myself. In general, Ægir is better than Fretheim food wise. Also try Marianne Bakeri & Kafé (bakery) in Aurland!

Not sure of junior suites but our room was in the historic section and the room was spacious with a couple of arm chairs. There was sitting rooms on the third and fourth levels.

I'd be careful...if the site will only let you book for 1 person it means that the hotel considers the room a single, even if it has a queen bed, it could be the bed fills the room! I'd find their email address and contact them direct, (not via a booking site) like everyone in Norway they speak perfect English, in fact one of the front desk staff is a young man from London. I'd be asking them direct, I found the staff there very helpful all round. Edxx

"We had room 125 on the ground floor with French doors opening out to walk the grounds. Loads of birds in the trees."
