Having been to Vilamoura many times at last I made the stay in the old village and is better than I thought it would be.
The surroundings are beautiful, extremely peaceful, free from the hustle and bustle of the marina. Having said that, we are in unprecedented times due to CV19 so at this time of year in a different year it could be probably more boisterous. The restaurants and bars around the old village are reasonably priced, still cheaper than the marina in picturesque surroundings. It’s extremely clean and people seem to respect the fact and adhere to the rules. The main pool is mediocre in size and strict no inflatables policy and ball games apply however you can get away with a small ball game. For parents with young children the village appears to be extremely safe. The village is more for r and r rather than up and get em feel. Marina is a 15 minute stroll once you get your bearings, taxis approx €5 to and from marina.
My only criticism is that being here for just a week, the room wasn’t cleaned once so far and we are on day 5, not enough toiletries unless I’m missing something although there are washing machines, irons, kettles even a hair dryer we found under the bathroom basin.
Overall I’d say 4.8/5.0 and that’s purely because I don’t want to be getting up to wash sheets and so on.. Definitely come again.

An interesting concept based on a village but definitely "Old Village" rather than an old village. It had one expensive supermarket, a bar, a cocktail bar, a cafe and a few estate agents. First of all we had problems finding out where to pick up our key. Eventually we found the reception and my name was on the door so we got the key from the security man. At first sight it is impressive. We had two apartments in the same category but ours was much better than our friends one.She had no balcony and not even a teaspoon. They only supply one toilet roll and that wasnt a full one, probably left by the previous occupant. Our room wasnt serviced even once during our stay so we had the same towels all week and we had to buy toilet rolls. The chair on the balcony and sun beds were covered in bird poo. Jakks bar within the complex was a nice little bar with a good ambience, happy hour 3-6 and then live music 6-8 and football on the TV. Next door there is a bakery which serves fresh rolls, croissants, fresh fruit and Pastel de nata. We ordered sardines and they arrived in a tin! The food on the complex was overall very bland, definitely aimed at the tourist market and there was nothing within a reasonable walking distance so we had to get cabs everywhere. Do use Uber, cheap and efficient, all drivers arrived within 5 minutes and they were all helpful and polite. Although the actual apartments and the balconies were serviced to the absolute minimum, only only on check in, the garden were blooming, watered daily and dead headed as necessary. The public areas eg the stairs were washed once during our stay, One positive aspect was good wi fi throughout. They have many repeat customers who visit several times a year but not for us unfortunately.

Had a wonderful 10 days at the Old Village studio apartment in March. Enjoyed a balcony as well as a roof terrace - excellent and complete with sunloungers and table and chairs for meals.

We went at a time when there were lots of staff preparing the pools and grounds for the summer season, so two pools were drained out of the four. This did not bother us and we went to the full pools every day.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the apartment is a pleasant 20 minute walk to the Intermarche supermarket (the best as far as we were concerned). The marina is only another 5 minute walk further on, with lovely sandy beaches both sides.

Quarteira is worth visiting and about a 40-45 minute walk away.

The little tourist train goes around Villamoura and picks up at the Old Village but it it very bumpy in places and I would not recommend for anyone with a back problem.

Would definitely go back at the same time of year, as there was not a cloud in the sky but not overly hot.

Apartment just has a small bar of soap in the bathroom and a few tea bags - you will need to take everything else. TV is all the freeview English channels but no subscription channels or DVD player.

Bus service was from opposite the Intermarche to Albufiera but you will have to go into Quarteira to go east.

Restaurants in the Old Village we did not find overly friendly, so didn't go back but Jakk's bar had live music twice a week and happy hour is from 3pm to 6pm.

Booked an apartment with Live’N Holidays as I have done in the past.As soon as you get to the office they ask you for €450 for breakages! I failed to see this anywhere when booking, but they will not supply you with a itinerary as to what is in the apartment.
The apartment looked like it had not been cleaned prior to my stay, went and complained to reception and was told that the apartment was cleaned but I can pay €25 for a cleaner to come and do it again, I also asked for another sun bed as there was only one the young ladies reply was “ I have to speak to housekeeping”no bed arrived before I left.
Live’N Holidays have grown bigger in recent years but have forgotten how to look after paying clients.
There are more booking agents on the old village I will try one of these next time.

From start to finish, we loved this place. Christina in reception was wonderfully helpful before we arrived by email and then the checkin was smooth and easy, we arrived late and so was helped to our accommodation by security who were also lovely. We stayed in a 2 bed, 2 storey duplex with roof terrace and it was beautiful, aircon in the lounge and both bedrooms was lovely and worked very efficiently! Well equipt with everything you should need along with a dishwasher and washing machine. Towels were changed once in the week, no cleaning but I prefer to do it myself and have the privacy anyway.

The whole complex we found was clean, beautifully looked after and so picturesque. It felt really safe and looked after. Bruno the cat was a highlight for my girls!

The Pool areas were clean and well looked after, the normal frustration of towel leavers but not nearly as bad as I have seen before, we tended to go later in the afternoon anyway by which time others that had been there all day were leaving. You do have to pay €2 for a sunbed per half day but we knew this in advance so it didn’t bother us - we often arrived after 5pm anyway which was the cut off for paying for the sunbeds in any case!

One slight pain was that the pool bars were cash only but again, once known it was easy to deal with.

The restaurants on site were nice, we only had more snack bits or pizza as we went out most nights but we liked what we had.

Bolt/ubers were really easy and incredibly cheap so we used those mainly to get around and be able to visit different areas also, we also ate out at the marina a few times never to be disappointed.

This was my first time in Portugal but it won’t be my last, overall we were stunned by this place, loved every second and cannot wait to visit again.

We have been to The Old Village many times and used several letting agents. We stayed in 16a Scottish road booked via village 4u lettings. On arrival our name and a number to call the security guard were on their door. We had our keys within 5 mins and shown to our apartment. The old village is still as lovely as ever, Jakk’s bar has a love,y atmosphere with live music (not too loud) and Voila next door is a real asset with ho e cooked bistro food. The marina is 15 mins walk away however an Uber costs €3.25. There are several bars within the old village and a well stocked supermarket. You have the use of 3 pools which you need a key fob to enter. You do now have to hire the sun Ed’s which were €2 per session (morning/afternoon) . The gardens and surrounding area are kept tidy .

Absolutely stunning complex with a fab variety if amenties and facilities. The Voila bakery was unreal and had such great knowledge of gluten free and coeliac food. I would highly recommend eating here as the owner is aware of allergens. Jakks bar os lovely and the complex is so so pretty. The apartments are basic but are spacious and as long as you know to take all cleaning essentials, food etc with u, you will have a lovely stay. The ants were a torture the first day but once sprayed down they didn't appear back. The beds and towels are not changed during a week stay, so do take extra. The pools are so nice but queue at 8.30 to get beds when opned at 9 and they are 4 euro per bed per day
As long as u know these wee things, all be OK. The bars at main pool only take cash. It is 25 min walk from marina. There is a taxi service at complex most of time.
We will definitely be booking again for next year, fab area.

Great quiet chilled beautiful looking apartment complex, has 5 bars all pretty reasonable compared with the Marina area and 3 of those do food, with some putting on entertainment.

Also the complex has 3 pools 2 of which have pool bars as well, sunbeds you pay for 4 euro for a full day 2 euro half a day, the pools are securely fenced off so makes the complex pretty safe for families with kids and numerous play areas so should keep em entertained.

Has a supermarket onsite with everything you need and doesn’t seem vastly more expensive like other places I have been in the past, also an ATM machine at the supermarket.

Our apartment has everything you need but could do with a bit of TLC and an update as looks a bit tired.

In conclusion we are really enjoying our holiday, very chilled lovely place with everything you need, just the apartment we are in could do with a bit of an update but doesn’t take away from the lovely experience.

Beautiful and stunning grounds. We got really lucky and got an apartment overlooking the pool and had our own little garden area which made it really easy with our kids aged 15 and 13. We was able to chill in our garden area and see them by in the hanging out around the pool. It was really clean when we arrived and our garden area was raked everyday by the gardeners. It was lovely to have that area to have breakfast and lunch and not have to worry about it being busy as it’s not peak time for them. We was not charged to use sunbeds to think this may be when it’s busier and there’s more people that want to use them. It was our first holiday abroad with the kids and they didn’t want to leave. Double bed was abit hard but we still slept well. The kids twin beds were a lot more comfortable than ours. Food was ok when we did eat on site but we cooked most nights in the apartment. Apartment has everything we needed from the right amounts of pots and pans to glasses etc. A great ten days away!

This was our 6th time visiting The Old Village for a family holiday.

We booked through Village4U lettings and their service was excellent, great communication and accommodation perfect for our needs. We had a 2 bedroom townhouse, fully equipped but 3 sets of steep stairs so bear that in mind.

However, we were extremely disappointed in the pool area. Both children have gotten ear infections from the pool, this happened on a previous visit also so I'd question the cleanliness of the water.

The sun loungers are a disaster, they have extended the number of loungers but have separated them into owner areas and an area for regular guests, thereby reducing the numbers available to guests. There is a charge, €2 for half day or €4 for full day- which I have no issue paying.
There is a queueing system at 9am to get the loungers but despite being there at 8.30 each morning, we only managed to get 1 lounger each day as people claim multiple loungers which go unused until the afternoon. Extremely frustrating.
