The Crowne Plaza Vilamoura - Algarve, an IHG hotel, garners a mix of reviews for its service, with guests appreciating the staff's friendliness but noting some inefficiencies. Its stylish ambiance and entertainment options provide a relaxed atmosphere, though noise can sometimes intrude. Cleanliness is a strong suit, with especially well-kept rooms and public areas.
While the rooms are comfortable and boast good views, noise and service issues are occasionally mentioned. The hotel's location near the beach and marina is a highlight, as are the amenities, despite some maintenance remarks. However, the value proposition is contentious, with mixed feelings about costs and charges.

We stayed here as a couple for 3 nights towards the end of May over a weekend.
Hotel is situated right on the beach, and a nice 7 - 10 minute walk from the marina.
We arrived to the hotel at around 9pm and check in was quick and friendly. As we didn’t want to head out we ordered Room Service, which was actually very nice and priced at what you would expect for the convenience.
Room was really nice. Large and modern, with a well kept balcony with a side sea view. The view was excellent, and we could see the marina and sea which was nice. Large and firm bed, as well as a fan and A/C, meant sleep was comfortable. Bathroom was large, with a nice bath/ shower, and plenty of amenities. The corridors seemed to have a new plush carpet, and doors close quietly, so we never heard any noise at all when in the room from others. Sound proofing seemed excellent.
Only two slight niggles in the room. There were no USB sockets to charge phones etc, and an odd 2.50euro charge for coffee pods. I’ve never seen a hotel charge extra for that, and I would say is not a good look for a nice hotel like this.
Breakfast was excellent. Great choice, and even when busy there was a lot of seating inside and out.
Pool is very nice, and there was a friendly staff member down there at all times removing towels that people would leave for long periods, and free up beds. This was great to see.
There are a couple of nice beach clubs right outside the hotel gate, and restaurants and bars minutes away. The hotel is down a quieter side road, so if you want a quiet night on the balcony then this is possible too.

Having read previous 1 star reviews we were somewhat worried as to what we were going to find when we arrived. It’s almost like they were at a different hotel to us!
The hotel seems spotless. Our room is lovely and anything we have asked for has been done. I asked for more hangers and they were in the room in an hour. Asked for the twin beds to be made into one bed - done. An extra seat was added to the balcony.
We find the breakfast to be excellent. Food is hot and there are about 6 coffee machines dotted around and all are working.
Reception staff are very friendly and helpful, as are restaurant and pool staff.
The pool is huge, there is a separate kids pool and play area, loads of beds around the pool or the surrounding grass areas.
Hotel is excellently situated just across from the beach and the marina with all the restaurants and bars.
Have traveled extensively throughout Europe and the Caribbean and would highly recommend this hotel. .
Ps. Read comments about building site next door. It’s in its final stages and we have had zero impact from this.

We absolutely loved this hotel and have already recommended it to friends. If you are looking for a quality stay, you most certainly have picked the right place. The location of the hotel is near a beach & a nice easy 10 minute walk from the marina and around 20minute to Quarteria town. We were greeted by concierge who took our cases and pointed us in the right direction for reception. The reception staff was so welcoming and once she had got through the usual registration, she went into further detail about the hotel and encouraged us to ask any member of staff if we had any queries. The hotel has a gym open 24hrs and a spa for an extra fee. There are 3 lifts which arrived very quickly. We had requested a high floor, Vilamoura side (the front), you could see the beach and sea and the casino. We were at the hotel over the weekend and there was zero noise from the casino. Our room was perfect. Nice and spacious, lovely bed, ample storage space, AC and a fan and two lounge chairs and a table on the balcony which we used a lot. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and complementary large size hand/body wash, shampoo & separate conditioner. They also provided body lotion which was an excellent moisturiser after being all day in the sun. The towels were the biggest and fluffiest I had ever experienced in a hotel!! An Iron, Ironing board, tea & coffee and a fridge was also on hand in our room as well as a safe you could set yourself. The room was clean and received daily attention from the housekeeping staff. The hallways were clean and very quiet as they had a nice thick carpet so you did not hear others walking along the corridor.
The hotel has a lovely pool, loads of lounge chairs & grass areas and a kids pool with a play area for the little ones too.
We stayed B&B and the breakfast excellent, so much choice to suit any palate. There was always a chef who cooked fresh omelettes to order even at 7am in the morning! I even spotted a gluten free area which shows the hotel takes care of guests with dietary requirements.
We did use the bar occasionally and I would recommended the cocktails, and whilst the prices may be slightly more, we didn't find them overly excessive for a hotel. Any interaction we had with staff at this hotel including in the restaurant, they were all lovely and so very helpful, a real credit to the hotel.
Maybe due to the time of the year we visited, the hotel seemed to attract groups of male golfers, couples and families with young (under school age) children.
Choose this hotel & you will not regret it. It was perfect by every means. I had seen negative reviews before we picked this hotel as we only booked the week before our arrival and Im so glad we ignored them

Our experience at the Crowne Plaza, Vilamoura, was generally positive. The staff demonstrated friendliness and helpfulness, and the hotel offers comprehensive facilities. However, there are notable areas for improvement:
Despite its 5-star rating, the hotel’s cleanliness fell short of expectations. Notably, the outdoor pool requires attention (there was even a deceased fish at the bottom).
Frequent calls to reception were necessary due to housekeeping oversights. Insufficient towels, face towels, and water bottles were recurring issues, although room cleaning remained satisfactory.
The restaurant’s dinner service left room for improvement. Fortunately, the abundance of dining options in the area mitigated this concern.
The kids’ pool was uncomfortably cold during cooler days, prompting us to use the larger pool instead.
On a positive note, the hotel’s location is exceptional, mere steps from the beach and a convenient 15-minute walk to the Marina. The breakfast selection is commendable, and the Spa, while pleasant, could benefit from additional attention, similar to the outdoor pool.

This is a really nice hotel in a great location with good rooms, which I would normally rate a 4.
So why the low score then?
Unfortunately, the sunbed situation is an absolute joke. There are lots of sunbeds, but they get reserved all day from very early in the morning. Four towel Karen's everywhere running down at 6am to reserve the sunbeds all day even though they don’t intend to use them until the afternoon. Most of the time the beds are 80% empty (with towels on & giant pegs) with only a handful of people in the pool or at the bar area.
There is a notice by the towel collection hut that says you can only leave the beds empty for 45 mins. When I mentioned this to the guys that worked there they just shrugged. Me and daughter were there for 4 days and didn’t get a sunbed once!
If you look back there are similar comments dating back to 2014 & 2015, which I wish I’d read before I booked.
I’ve stayed at the Tivoli next door and you don’t get any of this nonsense there, so do yourself a favour and pay the extra for a stress-free time.
I would have mentioned this at check out, but bizarrely they never asked how I’d enjoyed my stay!
Such a shame, as it is a nice hotel and the staff are all friendly.

We arrived earlier than check in permitted but as soon as the room was ready (we didn't have to wait too long) they rang us to inform us we could have access to our room. The check in staff at reception were lovely and even on check out, the lady remembered our room even though she hadn't served us directly- a real nice touch. There were two days when we had to get up early to reserve a sunbed. I hate being one of them people but if you can't beat them, you have to join them- that was the only downside to the hotel. However, as the week went on, there was lots more availability so maybe we just arrived when it was particularly busy. The staff around the pool were attentive and helpful. You have to pay a €25 euro deposit for each towel at the beginning but you get fresh ones as many times as you wish and you get this back without problem at checkout. The drinks were reasonably priced and the pool snacks were also well priced and decent in size. It's about a 20 minute walk to the marina but there's a water taxi from one side to the other if you don't want to walk it. Rooms were spacious and water was replaced daily. We stayed in a room for 2 adults and 1 child and we felt we had lots of room, especially with the large balcony area looking over the sea. Tip for travelling: make sure you have a bag aside for pool stuff if your room isn't ready as there are spacious and clean toilets to get changed in.

We have recently returned from a 7 night holiday at The Crowne Plaza Vilamoura after having never been to The Algarve previously.
Arriving at the hotel around 10 a.m we fully expected not to be allowed access to our room until mid/ late afternoon. To our great surprise as we had a 12 year old raring to go to the swimming pool we were informed by Viktor on Reception that we could have our room immediately. We didn’t even ask, just given the good news.
Viktor was very welcoming and told us all we needed to know about the hotel, swimming pool location, towel procedure, restaurant and bars location and opening times. He was very professional and friendly saying hello most days as we passed by.
We found this to be the case with 99% of the staff however someone really needs to tell the pool guys managing the towel distribution that they ought to tell their faces that they are happy. If they weren’t on their phones and ignoring you waiting to swap a towel they were talking amongst themselves. Would recommend asking them early in the day to put up/ down your poolside umbrella as the stroll from their hut to the pool is a chore. They stood out as letting the side down sadly.
Pool side drinks service was as expected, Izabella and MD very professional and friendly, run off their feet but kept on smiling.
Our room was a high floor overlooking Vilamoura Marina, sun from midday until Sunset with excellent views to the West of the Algarve. Highly recommended. No noise whatsoever from the next door Casino.
Room itself good modern size and very clean. Had to keep asking for loo roll as only given one at a time, not ideal for family of 3!!! Also shower gel ran out 2 days to go and never replenished. Had an issue with electrics ‘shorting’ late one night but repair guy came very quickly and sorted it out.
Will definitely return.

The Duncurins spent a week in this wonderful hotel. It is close enough to the Marina so that one can enjoy a short walk and yet far enough so that one is not troubled by those enjoying the delights of the Irish bars and other ‘evening’ venues. It was also the boat show week which added a little extra excitement. The hotel has lovely views of the sandy beach and our room had a slightly side on view of the marina side. This too was a lovely view and we also enjoyed beautiful sunsets as the days lengthened early June as we approached the solstice. Our room , 818, was comfortable, clean and kept so by the maid service. We arrived very early on our first day and expected to wait for a few hours while our room was prepared but Reception phoned me within the hour to say that it was all set. We enjoyed the pool and also the lovely spacious lounges, bars and restaurant all of which were excellent spaces to relax, eat or drink. Prices for a 5* hotel are excellent with generous measures for the alcoholic drinks and a great range of cocktails, mocktails and soft drinks. We also enjoyed the evening entertainment. We’d chosen a half board package and were treated to lovely a la carte options each night - all of which were included in the HB tariff. Mrs Duncurin and I smiled one evening when we were talking to a lady who’d been out for her evening meal and had been served sea bass, unfilleted, complete with head with which she’d wrestled and been charged 85 Euros for - while Mrs D had enjoyed a beautifully prepared sea bass in the hotel restaurant which was excellent. One evening they brought the wrong dish to our table but the manager. Miguel, who was excellent at seeing that the whole restaurant ran smoothly, arrived within two minutes to offer his apologies and to tell me that my correct order was 2 minutes away - and so it was. The Duncurins would like to thank him and all the friendly, excellent staff whose hard work provided us with an excellent week. Well done and many, many thanks from team Duncurin.

We spent a few nights at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Vilamoura. The hotel exceeded all our expectations. First of all the hotel staff, especially those on reception duties, were exceptional:- polite, courteous, knowledgeable, professional, pleasant and extremely helpful. They set the scene for a wonderful stay ...... thank-you Eloisa, Daniela, Joà o and team for making our holiday a memorable one. The bedrooms are well appointed with separate wet room, wash-basin area and toilet cleverly housed in a glass area with electric blinds. The balcony has comfortable seating and is private. The interior of the hotel is aesthetically pleasing, well designed and relaxing. Breakfasts are so good that you would have to sample them to enjoy a very high standard of cuisine. Beds are super comfortable with good air conditioning. The pool area, pool side bar and outdoor areas are clean, tidy and inviting, with good shade and lovely shrubs. Good is delicious. You won't be disappointed as as you leave you will look forward to returning. Thank you

The last day we had the return flight in the evening, so we took the opportunity to go to the beach until the time to leave for the airport. We asked if we could use the spa showers (or any complimentary showers) and they said yes. So far all normal. The problem was that on returning from the beach, the spa staff informed us of the shower price: 5eur per person. The surprise was capital. We explained that we were hotel guests and we didn't want to make use of the spa, it was just going to be a quick shower before the plane, but it didn't help.
How could a hotel in this category have such dismal details with its guests? I don't know how much they make from this system, but I don't think it'll compensate them. The image they give is terrible. In the spa there was no shampoo or moisturizer, so we paid 5eur to wash our hair with gel. Worse than in a hostel.

Junior Suites with Front Sea View have the best views and are more expensive the higher the floor - I was on the 9th floor. All rooms have balconies, and some have a side sea view. Those on the west-facing sude with Marina view are preferable to those on the east-facing Quarteira side.

We just returned home on Sunday( 27/8/23), and had a room on the building site side, it really wasn’t that disruptive at all, not great to look at mind 😂 especially when you’ve seen the view before the building work. You could also hear it a bit from the pool area, but it really didn’t affect our holiday. It’s just a shame such a huge development had to be built really.
There are more places to choose from in the Vilamoura area.
