JO&JOE Paris Gentilly Hotel garners praise for its friendly and helpful staff, although instances of rudeness and unresponsiveness have been flagged by some guests. The hotel's cleanliness receives mixed reviews, with upkeep and service frequency being points of contention for many travelers. While the private cabins are considered a budget-friendly option by some, others are dissatisfied with the hotel's amenities and location.
The hostel's atmosphere is generally seen as welcoming and lively, particularly in the restaurant and bar areas, though the social vibe may be lacking in other spaces. Concerns about the maintenance of washroom facilities and the varied condition of rooms, ranging from unclean to comfortable, have also been noted by guests.

It's convenient because it's connected to the airport by a single RER-B line. However, in 2024, you will need to transfer on weekends. If you have heavy luggage, use the nearest Gentilly station, and if you go to Cite Universitaire station normally, you can get to the city center at the cheapest price by passing through the university campus right in front of it, which is in ZONE 1. The staff are generally kind. The room is cleaned regularly, but sometimes careless guests dirty the toilets. Breakfast is from 7:00, but if you tell the staff if you are leaving before that, they will prepare something like a simple breakfast set for you. Overall, it's a convenient place to stay and there are no problems.

The cabin room was nice for visual privacy, but there wasn't much sound insulation so you can hear everything that was happening in the room (i.e. doors opening/closing and talking). For one night, someone was opening/closing the doors every other hour so it was practically impossible to sleep, but it's more a problem of inconsiderate roommates. The cabin itself was alright - it smelled fresh, but it got stuffy at night and was really dusty. The washroom was average for hostels. Only a couple of the shower stalls were open and the drain was really slow/clogged in one of them. The showers and washrooms are cleaned daily, but they get really dirty by the next morning because some people just don't clean up after themselves. The soap wasn't refilled everyday despite the cleaning so it was a bit disappointing since free toiletries were supposed to be included. I liked the lively atmosphere in the restaurant/bar area, it made the hostel feel more lively and welcoming overall, but you can also stay in your room if you do not want to participate. The staff were nice and able to speak English so I didn't have a problem communicating with them despite not being able to speak French well.

I stayed there for a week and I consider that the stay was nice. I liked my bunk bed (spacious, good mattress and lining, a good bedside lamp), the locker was large, there was plenty of space in the hostel to relax after a day of intense wandering about, the shows that happened on Thursday and Friday were also very interesting. The checkin and checkout were easy.
There are only two downsides to the infrastructure (one is easily solvable, the other not much so I think), and one major point of consideration regarding the location.
Point of consideration: Be aware that the Gentilly station is NOT within Paris City, but in its metropolitan area (by one block, actually). If you want to pay the minimum fare for public transport you have to walk like 5-10 min to the Cité Universitaire station nearby. It wasn't much of a hustle for me, and the difference in price is of 0.90€ I think, but beware.
Downsides: The bedroom I stayed in had two showering rooms: one with no hangers (they were broken), but a good shower, and the other with proper hangers but barely any water coming out of the shower. This is the easily solvable part. The more permanent issue that I hated is the fact that the lights everywhere in the room would only function if you inserted your room card in a slot near the door. Sometimes someone had their card inserted and I couldn't pluck theirs and insert mine, but in the middle of a shower the lights went off because the said person removed their card. Extremely annoying. I also felt somewhat unsure whether to leave my card (as someone could take it by mistake).

Unfortunately, my experience at this hostel was disappointing. The staff was nice, but not super nice - some of the staff had a tendency to be sarcastic and seemed irritable in my opinion. The biggest problem, however, was the washrooms and toilets, which were unfortunately disgusting. There were stool marks on all the toilets and hair on the sinks. I understand that guests are ostensibly responsible for the proper use of the common areas, but if this cannot be ensured, they need to clean more often or put up signs encouraging guests to keep things clean. It was really hard to bear. Furthermore, the dorm was super loud on both of my nights, so I was not at all refreshed in the morning. On both nights, someone snored very loudly. On one of the nights, someone packed their things at 6 a.m. so long and so loudly that I was woken up by my earplugs. In addition, the hostel is located on a highway, so you can't expect any peace and quiet. The double beds in the dorms were too low. You can look into the upper beds without having to stretch. The lower beds have blinds, but they are so low that you almost sit on the floor and have to bend down because otherwise you'll hit the upper bed. It was therefore not possible to sit comfortably and change or pack. It was also a shame that the hostel is located with one station in Paris Zone B, so the public transport tickets I bought at the airport were not valid. I either had to buy new tickets or walk 12 minutes to the next metro station in Zone A. The only positive thing I can say is the black-out blinds in the dorm. I was looking for cheap accommodation for two nights and €92 is a very good price by Paris standards. However, it wasn't worth the money. Next time I'll invest more for cleaner and more pleasant accommodation that's better located.

We were looking for accommodation for 8 people in Paris for the Agricultural Show. We were very surprised and delighted to be able to book a full dormitory. On site, everything went really well. Arrival is easy and very flexible, even autonomous, the rooms are clean, comfortable and aesthetic, possibility of having bathrooms and toilets inside the dormitory. Maybe 2 toilets for an 8 person dorm would have been simpler. We had a great evening at the hostel bar. Everything was there to have a good evening: table football for 8 people, smiling bartender, theme evening with karaoke... We had great meetings on site with other groups who had come for the agricultural show. The rooms are completely soundproofed. We felt safe from start to finish. The next day the buffet lunch was very good. I recommend with my eyes closed!

Hi! I stayed here in the beginning of February, I’ll say it’s a great location! About a 2-3 minute walk from the Gentilly train station (I recommend using the train to get around) this is probably the fastest & easiest way to get to the hotel.
Upon arrival (Saturday night) the lobby & adjoining bar / hangout /dance area was in full party mode lol they had great music going & had I not been so tired from travel I might have partook but I quickly checked in , front desk informed me of my room & floor & I headed straight to the elevator.
Didn’t quite know what to expect but I was impressed! I had booked a shared dorm but it had all the privacy I needed. Room has locker cabinets that allows you to store your bags ( bring your own lock). I especially enjoyed my bed , I had a bottom bed & appreciated not having to climb up.
Bed was AWESOME. Comfortable, soft , soft pillow, clean soft sheets , possibly the nicest hostel bed I’ve had to date. I loved that there was a usb plug in my bed cubicle , also personal lighting & the cutest little rollable shades on each side of the bed so I could roll them up or have them down for privacy.
Location was amazing! Literally a couple steps from the train station (once you learn it & how to use the train it’s perfect! ) there’s an amazing bakery on your walk to & from the hotel I recommend! Amazing pastries
Overall I give them a 10 , it was everything I needed and every second I wasn’t exploring the city I relaxed in the comfortable bed 😍
Thanks Jo&Joe

Rude staff and toilet water all over the second floor. If you do not want to eat breakfast in peace and have the front desk neglect to give you breakfast tickets, stay here. Ask for filtered water from the bar, they will tell you to drink from the bathroom faucet instead. If you want your birthday ruined, stay here. If you order from the restaurant, they reheat your meal in the microwave. If you want hot water, they will gaslight you into taking cold water. Other guests are loud and smoke too many cigarettes.

The bathrooms on the third floor reeked of urine like dried in and not cleaned urine. After two days of being there I noticed they had not been cleaned once because the same trash and hair was on the floor and when I aired the front desk she said that it is not protocol to clean everyday. Even after that the bathrooms were never properly cleaned you could tell there was still dirt all in the corners and and on the walls maybe they took out the trash and sprayed it down but it was not scrubbed. The advertisement says kitchen worktop - I felt this implied a stovetop of some kind but it’s literally just a microwave ont the counter. Additionally there was never any soap in the kitchen (I was there for 6 days) and so Ann the dishes and utensils are just being rubbed down with a DIRTY SPONGE over and over. The listing also said laundry access so when I couldn’t find the laundry room I went to the front desk and she told me I have access to walk a kilometer or .7 miles to a laundromat. That’s almost funny. The beds are very hard but pretty much typical hostel stuff. I was lucky to have quiet roommates but in the private cabins you could hear EVERYTHING your cabin mates did. So if you’re a light sleeper do not recommend. When they do DJ sets you can hear it even on third floor and it goes until past 2am. The AC (I think it’s the AC) makes a sound like a milk frother every few minutes. Only positives are Design was kind of cool and modern aesthetically and some of the front desk workers were nice. Also it’s pretty close to RER B but it’s in zone two so if you’re buying tickets keep them n mind it’s an extra Euro every trip.

Terrible bedbugs all round. Do not stay at this hostel. Stayed the week of October 20th for 5+ days at the Jo&Joe Gentilly, Paris, with my group of school friend for a convention. Frankly, the ratings on booking.com and other are highly exaggerated. The hostel is terrible in terms of cleanliness. Got bedbugs attacking you at nights. When raised to the front desk they send a single individual with a dry towel to wipe the cubical a little. Even being offered to move to another cubical things did not improve. Washing the clothes at the hostel did not help either. First and last time I stayed there, never again. Stay far away from it......

We are a family of 4 (parents and 2 children) and a few years ago, we stayed here and our review was a very good one. Unfortunately, the "hotel" has become a place for the homeless/beggers. We were given a filthy room, with trash from the former guests, including a piece of rotten apple pie on the closet! It was hallucinating. We made pictures and a video and went to the reception. The reception apologized and gave us another room. Unfortunately, it was meant to be a horrible night. It was hell. We thought that the airco was broken, but unluckily found out that it is just inexistent. According to the hotel, the minimum temperature has been set to 26C°, even in case of a heat wave, which was the case yesterday. There is NO climatisation. There was no air in the room. It was suffocating.and not healthy. The hotel argues that "it's for the planet", but it's simply that the hotel is big and they just decided to cut off expenses. When trying to breath during the night, we opened the window, but the horrible noise from the highway, non stop during the whole night, made sleep impossible. So, we paid for no sleep (?) Also, the beds are not clean at all. On the edges of one of the beds, there were bread crumbles. Furthermore, itch in the middle of the night due to filthy sheets (bedbugs(?), during a heat wave, and no sleep... AND noisy neighbors upstairs coming at 3 in the morning, stamping and jumping (?)= A COMPLETE NIGHTMARE. For your own good/health, do NOT book in this "hotel", at least if you care about clean, decency and getting (a good) sleep. The only reason why we would go there would be for the common lobby (also not very clean, very dirty tables), where there is wifi, a restaurant/bar and a terrace. Anyone (really: EVERYONE, even people from the streets!) can just come in and stay there as long as they want! Weird, dirty, but for free 👍🏻 The neighborhood is not a good one, it's actually scary, especially in the night, so beware. We would have appreciated a whole reimbursement of our stay due to the incredibly bad stay, but understand that it's just the way it is, a bad budget hostel, because it does not deserve to be called "hotel". Bye bye, Joe and Joe! We wish you very good luck treating your clients like animals and hope you don't go bankrupt.
