We relaxed as soon as we arrived. The rainforest location is so special. Our rainforest lodge was perfect and the sunroom surrounded by trees was such a sanctuary. We found the hugging (healing tree) on the rainforest walk and the kids kept on going back for hugs - such good vibes. The kids enjoyed the pool which was shallow - great for our young children.
Eleme day spa was a dream - I had the chakra healing massage and really enjoyed the relaxing and immersive experience of the crystals and sound bowls too.
We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at Forest and the staff are really exceptional. Not easy dining with 2 young kids but the staff there were so great with our kids. It's amazing we lasted through the delicious 5 course degustation! A must try with the matching wines. The squid and kingfish were the winners for us.
I am so glad I did the morning yoga class (even if it was just once!) looking right into the rainforest - a great start to the day.

We can't wait to return!

January is usually a time we are overseas for our summer break. COVID-19 changed that so we booked Byron.
Unknowingly our son and daughter-in-law with their children booked also. The stays overlapped. They had a standard room we a rainforest room. Got to say both nice but we had the better fresher brighter room.
(If they come again please don’t give them room 1.)
They had some family days before we arrived and loved it. Being small children 5 and 7 the fold away bed was fine.
Could say that both rooms needed to have floor vacuumed each day or in our case mopped as they were tiles. An issue noted by both.
As a family the pool an walkways were used, both great. It’s a deep pool but their is a kiddie pool. Lots of kids having fun didn’t disturb anyone and yes it is school holidays. Could have done with a person taking orders rather than having to go to bar each time. There were buzzers on the verandah next to the pool. The restaurant was always busy for dinner and late bookings were hard. That given and having small children we were able to dine on a deck near toys and bring our own. That is a first class resort.
When my son, daughter in law and kids left we stayed. Still kids in pool but as a couple we relaxed, read, and swam with no problems.
The staff were always helpful food was high quality and the rainforest relaxed us from the busy Byron town.
Staying out a bit is sooo much better than a unit in town.
Here we had the best of both worlds. We were so impressed we booked again for January knowing the chance of o/s travel being out of the question. A couple booking at the resort in school holidays says something about a resort able to accommodate all tastes.

Loved this resort because of the unique feeling throughout the entire property. I wouldn't say this is a 5 star resort in the typical sense--there are not a lot of people waiting on you and service is slow. However, the staff is comprised of lovely people who want to be helpful when asked. Just ask and they will handle whatever it is you need. Very much appreciated everything and everyone at this resort.

The rooms were unique, like big tree houses in the rain forest. The best is the washer/dryer unit in the room, along with full size fridge and small kitchen area. One could easily spend a week here. Nice walk to the beach and lovely walking paths around the property. Very private and romantic. The breakfasts are great and the bar food is as well. Good info provided at the front desk on surrounding communities.

We would absolutely stay here again and recommend highly without reservation.

Note that this is a little outside of the town of Byron so one might want to rent a car. Otherwise, taxis and ubers are available. The hotel has a van service a few times a day but never seemed to be at times that were good for us. If I had one recommendation to the resort is to offer the van more times a day, say hourly, especially during busy seasons.

Hi AsISeeIt37, Thanks for taking the time to review Byron at Byron, and offer your feedback. Much appreciated. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed our 'tree-house' like rainforest suites. While we certainly don't fit the mould of a traditional 5 star resort, we're glad to hear that the understated, friendly service and beautiful, relaxed surroundings made it feel truly unique. Your feedback on our shuttle schedule is welcomed, and we will review accordingly to ensure we are offering the best available service for our guests. We look forward to welcoming you back to the resort. Warm Regards, Julian Moore General Manager

We arrived yesterday at the Byron and Byron and our experience so far has been anything else but disappointing.
We have a one year old and a three year old we’re looking forward to a relaxing week in Byron. We booked this resort as we thought it would be everything we need for a week and seemed to be rather kids friendly.
We arrived earlier yesterday due to Qantas changing our booking. Our room wasn’t ready and we had to wait three hours nobody really tried to offer us any solution to make the wait less difficult with kids needed naps and lunch .
We had lunch and waited 40 mins before having our first course.
I ordered a vegetarian salad and it comes with one boiled egg some grated cheese and leaves. I sent it back and they did make an effort and add avocado salmon which was lovely.
Today we went to the shop of the hotel and asked if they were selling floaters for our one year old. The main is really not kids friendly it 1.70 all the way although there is a kids pool it is not suitable for one year old. The answer from the lady at the shop was very dismissive “we don’t sell them they take too much space in the pool”.
Finally although we have been out a few hours today our room has been cleaned we called the housekeeping service who didn’t have much of an answer and say sorry you have to wait til tomorrow. We did asked for some fresh towels and someone came...
The resort is nice and the room lovely we feel very unwelcome and disappointed by our experience so far.

We loved the location of this hotel and the rainforest trails. Being able to walk to Tallows Beach and catch the sunrise was a joy each morning. All staff were friendly and helpful.
However, I think there is still room for improvement. The rooms are large and spacious but I found the light system and TV irritating. When you changed the channel on one TV, the other changed. It also switched on both at the same time in the living room and bedroom, we ended up unplugging the living room TV. The lights were more complicated than they needed to be. I did like the iPad with all the hotel details, this was easy to use and very helpful.
The food was hit and miss. We had one great night at Forest and the food was brilliant. Dined again the next night but not so great. I ordered the same starter as I loved it so much the night before but it was different (not bad, just different as there were inconsistency). Breakfast was good but fairly limited - add ons like bacon were expensive at $9. Room service wasn't great. One night I ordered the panko prawns and all the poo shoots were left in. At nearly $20 for 4 prawns, I expected this non-aesthetically pleasing feature to be removed.
Room service at the pool isn't what I expected, it was more like a bar service than lounger service. This may be what is intended but I would expect lounger service for the price point.

I stayed here to celebrate my 30th birthday and it definitely did not disappoint! I appreciated the bottle of sparkling that i was given in my room, which we were able to enjoy at The Verandah Bar on our last afternoon.

The rooms were lovely and spacious but the most impressive thing for me was the staff. They were all really warm and friendly, couldn't do enough for us and they made us feel at home. Nothing was too much trouble. I did a few activities while i was staying and everyone was always keen to hear how it went and to see photos. Thank you to Lara, Charlotte, Wilhelmina, Aaron, Nic, Kris (forest) and a big shoutout to Kyle for going out of his way for me. I had forgotten my bag with medication in it at Bang Bang after having dinner there and as I obviously needed my medication that night, Kyle drove me back to the restaurant to pick it up 😊

Unfortunately, I had to work in the mornings, but what nicer place to work on holidays than by the pool. The pool service was fantastic and it was lovely to chat with Nic whilst I was there. The verandah bar was also nice, however I just preferred to be around the pool. The pool was very inviting and as we had just missed school holidays, was not too busy.

I had an amazing massage and Facial at the Spa with Sas and it was a relaxing haven.

The setting of the hotel is beautiful, surrounded by rainforest and boardwalks that take you through the rainforest. I explored a little and loved the cute little meditation spot and lakeside area. I did do yoga on a few mornings and that was good, with lovely scenery. Such tranquility.

Location - It does not take too long to get into town and the resort has a shuttle at certain times that will take you in and pick you up.

I loved that we were still able to use all the facilities after checking out, whilst wait for our airport shuttle (our flight was not until late afternoon)

The resort is quite expensive but definitely worth it!

I did not want to go home! Looking forward to come back next year for my redo 30th (2020 doesn’t count) 😊

Even though this trip was mainly business oriented, a stay at Crystalbrook is very relaxing. Rooms are all the same - 2 balconies, large king room, spacious bathroom and seperate lounge. The kitchenette is well equipped including a washer / dryer. Reception staff are excellent - responsive and helpful. Restaurant staff seem a little less organised but nothing to ruin your stay. Definitely recommend the morning yoga classes. The instructors are terrific!

First off, I highly recommend this hotel. The property itself is beautiful and has an interesting history. There are lovely walks all around and interesting wildlife to be spotted like the shy and very cute wallabies in the palm forests! Great to read about the hotels forest restoration efforts and eco works.

The staff were very friendly and the rooms modern and clean with a washing mashing and decent kitchen.

Food at the restaurant was great. Shame that gym was closed and spa did not open for another week (both were advertised and spa was the reason we chose the hotel in the first place) but no stress. Wifi worked and was consistently decent.

Some areas of improvement would be a firmer pillow. Also housekeeping missed cleaning our room/changing the towels despite a phone call. The plug for the bath was missing so couldn’t use that. Ordering and food delivery in the restaurant in the morning was very slow with visibly annoyed customers in the not so busy restaurant.

Overall would highly recommend. Looking forward to trying crystalbrooks Cairns hotels in the next couple weeks.

We stayed here for 5 nights with our young baby. We had an exceptional experience.

We have stayed here many times and love the setting within the rainforest with boardwalks enabling easy access for walks (particularly with the pram), access to the stunning Tallow Beach, great pool and room nestled in the forest where you can open the windows wide (with fly screens) to let in the breeze and sound of the forest. We found the kitchen facility very handy.

What stood out was the service. With a new born, we spent more time than usual in our room. As a result we came across the house keeping team a number of times. They were ultra helpful and friendly. At one point we ran out of tea bags, we mentioned this and they addressed this immediately and also returned with a box of chocolates.

The restaurant is exceptional - I had sous vide snapper one night and kingfish with ratatouille another night. Really high quality and a lovely setting with good service. And great wines by the glass (eg Hoddle Creek Chardonnay).

We both had very good spa treatments.

I think the resort could improve its focus on sustainability. It is great that they are preserving the amazing 45 acre forest and limiting single use plastics in the bathroom but personally I think they could do more. Resorts claiming to be sustainable these days are doing more such such as sourcing carbon neutral power (perhaps the case here but it certainly was not made clear). It is also not clear that the single use cardboard water bottles are much better than plastic.

In summary, we had a great stay. Love the property and service. It is expensive, but we think a unique and wonderful place to stay.

Wanted to love this place but found it overpriced and average for the price point. I paid over $500 per night and expected a bit more

The good things:

Beautiful rainforest setting
Lovely big pool
Delicious breakfasts
Friendly restaurant staff

Not as good

I requested a quiet room and was placed with families beside, above and opposite me, though the place was at low occupancy. I think the resort should cater for both relaxation and family holidays more carefully

The bill was incorrect and I was told I could not receive a list of my charges, I’d have to contact my booking agent. I had to insist to see the individual dockets and found the errors, the bill was corrected but it was harder than it needed to be

Room service was poor - my $40 chicken Caesar took an hour and contained one tiny piece of chicken. It was also very wet and soggy.

The furniture in my room was stained. No one wants to sit on a stained couch when they’ve booked something at a luxury price point

Dear Lovetohike, Thanks for the question. We certainly do have a gym and exercise facilities. We also have a tennis court if you enjoy hitting a ball. Byron has plenty of running tracks and also a great option is a run along the beach which is accessible from the resort.
