We have just stayed for 4 nights here and I cannot recommend it enough. The staff were amazing, always available and so helpful. Lovely people! The rooms are lovely and warm with controllable heating and decorated in the Sami style. Lots of rooms to relax in that are equally as nice. There is a sauna and a jacuzzi which we didn't use! They have all the equipment you could imagine, snowmobiles, snow shoes, husky rides, and everything needed to keep you warm throughout your stay. The food was delicious and we got to taste the typical Norwegian dishes as well as other food. They catered very well for the vegetarians in our group too. It was snowing regularly during our trip but the snow was cleared every day, sometime more regularly.
The walks and views from here are so beautiful too - definitely in the winter but I am told in the summer too.
I highly recommend this lodge!

Just spent 4 lovely nights at the lodge. Really beautiful place, warm and comfortable and very friendly. Our bedroom was large and cosy and warm, with controllable heat so you could adjust it to suit individual needs. Lots of different reception rooms to sit in and relax. We really enjoyed the hot tub and the wonderful waffles. We were made very welcome by the lovely staff and the owner. Thank you Gargia Lodge for making our trip so enjoyable and memorably.

We stayed three nights at Gargia lodge in a studio equipped with Kitchenette. The room was comfortable. Pots, pans and cutlery were very limited and could be improved for guests wanting to use the kitchen. They serve good breakfast. The location is beautiful. We took a hike with snowshoes to the frozen waterfall, which offered spectacular views. We were lucky to have many clear nights in a row and just had to step out if the room to see the northern lights. The lodge turns off all lights including the street lamps at 12 AM, and it’s wonderful to walk out to see the lights and run back in to warm up, especially when it’s -25 degrees😄

The Alta Canyon hiking trail is close by (about 10 min via car / bike) and the nearby waterfall is just a magnificent place to see.
The staff is extremely friendly.
Alta city centrum is not that far away and at Gargia Lodge one can truly enjoy peace and quiet and beautiful Norwegian nature.

We stayed in Glaglia lodge for one night in preparation for our two day dogsledding adventure. They picked us up form Scandic hotel. Then we had a good dinner. In the morning the very kind owner helped us in warm clothes for the trip. It was a very nice personal treatment. On our arrival back they even let us use the shower again in our room.

Family run lodge with outstandingly friendly people, and the location is breathtaking. If you're looking for a taste of 'real' Norway then this place is unmissable. Expect to see chunky Norse woodsmen, complete with traditional hunting knives and manly knitwear, and a lot of sled dogs. Local food specialities are strong on reindeer meat (just don't mention Rudolph), fish and game.
You can catch your own supper if you're lucky at ice-fishing.
Trekking over the snow in snow shoes is harder than it looks, but worth the effort - there are guided night walks from the lodge.

If you want to spend some time in the woods, surrounded by nature and no sign of modern city .... then this is the place. It is a bit off track from the main highway, hence recommend that you use a good map application to reach here.

The lodges are very beautiful and there is a brook flowing through the property. Food is a challenge as there are no restaurants. You will need to inform the receptionist a day earlier if you want breakfast. Nonetheless, the nearest petrol pump is a mere 25 kms away on the highway ans you can get whatever you want there. Additionally, there is a microwave and cooking facility in the lodge, you may prepare your own food too.

This place can be visited both during summer and winter....but the experience is totally different in different season. But anytime will be worth it.

During winter, they also provide husky adventure packages. However in summer you will only see the huskies inside their enclosure.

There is ample parking place.

This place is about a half hour into the mountains from Alta. A shuttle service is available if pre booked from Alta and will cost you £30 each way for two.

The setup is a communal dining area & set meals if you wish or if you have a cabin set across the road you'll have cooking facilities but be sure to buy these in Alta before you arrive as there are no shops in a 30km radius.

We found the rooms, layout, activities & atmosphere to be excellent. Sølvie is an natural host, attentive, very welcoming and chilled. There's great views from the lounge with free coffee and a homely feel, it really is a lovely place.

One night We took the outdoor jacuzzi option for £40 for an hour and a half, this is only available if you're more than 2 people. We could see the Northern Lights too. In fact because there is no light pollution, you'll see the northern lights better here than in Alta and that's almost a guarantee.

The Snowmobiles on site are a must and the guide is again 100% and is from the area so ask any question and he'll have the answer (In English). These are around £180 per person with a £50 supplement for additional drivers. Book in advance you won't be disappointed.

Cabins are clean and well maintained, well heated although our underfloor heating didn't work we could still warm the bathroom with the door open.

My only advice or niggle would be that the business relies on volunteers who were mostly young in that gap year stage and whilst pleasant enough were not particularly hospitable and had not even taken time to learn about the basic processes of the business such as checking in and busses. Odd; as I'm sure there is plenty of down time. It's frustrating as it was like pushing water uphill sometimes. He was quick enough to interrupt us when it came to paying the bill however which did rattle me... anyway This is a comment for the individuals to consider for their own improvement rather than the venue itself.

But.. Special thanks to Sølvie, Ian & Justin.

All in all I would HIGHLY recommend this venue, they also have husky rides so this really could be a one stop shop for all Nordic activities.

Hello, Sorry for late answer. There is no shuttel bus going from Airport to our Lodge. We offer pick up and drop off at NOK 200,- per person one way. We do not have fat bikes for rental but there are some sportshops downtown who offer this. And yes; it is possible to ride fat bikes in winter and local people do use them during the winter. Hello, the road to Gargia Lodge is a asfalted road and the schoolbus use this road. So it should not be a problem with a small car. We are approx 25 km from the city center, around 30 minutes drive. Rgds Sølvi
