Rex Carpenter, flying solo (his, wife, Joyce, was temporarily out of town) treated us like guests, not customers. Our room (The Fantail) opened onto a wrap-around deck overlooking the manicured gardens. The common room was spacious and comfortable with panoramic views of the property. Chef Rex served wonderful garden to table meals (dinner and breakfast) and a bottle of his own reserve Rosé. Very fairly priced. Unlimited internet. Ted and Lily (the family dogs) made the lodge feel very much like home.

We decided to have a short break on East Cape and stayed at ended up staying at this wonderful B&B in Te Kaha. Although not on the waterfront, you can catch glimpses of the sparkling sea from the front deck and gardens and quite good views from the upstairs bedrooms. A walk around Joyce's amazing garden is a must and if you dine at Tui, just about everything on offer comes from the garden - a true delight. The hosts are charming and very knowledgable of the area and offer true Kiwi hospitality in the most beautiful and peaceful surroundings. We will be back.

We were delighted on arrival to discover this wonderful relaxing B & B with beautiful grounds and welcoming hosts.
Our room was well appointed opening onto the extensive veranda where we could sit and admire the view.
Wendy was kind enough to cook us dinner that we shared together. Breakfast the next morning was plentiful and with reluctance we continued on our way around the coast to Tauranga.
We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this Lodge. We will be back.

Responded 19 May 2017
We were delighted to hear the very positive feedback from our guests stay at Tui Lodge in Te Kaha. It is always very much appreciated when guests find the time in their busy lives to make the effort to give their recommendations. We were glad that they found our Lodge a peaceful stop over on their journey around the East Cape. Many Thanks Wendy & Trevor Owners

We booked this B&B based on the amazing 5* trip advisor reviews - however ownership has changed recently. The gardens are beautiful and bed very comfortable, however the level of hospitality wasn't as described in the previous trip advisor reviews so we were disappointed (ie none of the nice little touches e.g. only a basic breakfast, no tea & cake offered on arrival or lifts to town or wine from the cellar or local info given, no wifi offered). Nice place and friendly owner but the $175 price tag seemed too expensive for the level of breakfast and service received.

We overnighted at the Tui Lodge whilst having business in the area. Wendy and Trevor had only just taken over and we were among the first guests.

The room was very clean and Wendy welcomed us with a slice of homemade cake and tea and coffee.

Dinner was simple and delicious using produce from the garden. Although they had only taken over a very short period before we stayed, it was great too see how Wendy as fitted to her new lifestyle. We left for with fresh fruit from the extensive gardens.

Wonderful gardens.

Like the previous reviewer, we read the excellent reviews of Tui Lodge and decided to stay one night on our trip around East Cape. However, although the room was good, the bed comfortable and the grounds lovely, and Wendy was very hospitable, the breakfast was a big disappointment for the amount of money being charged.

Just up the beach at Te Kaha, Tui Lodge is nestled in elegant gardens. The warm welcome, excellent accommodation and comfort food makes this a great stop on the way round East Cape. Rex was unfailingly helpful and hospitable, and we will long remember our pleasant stay at this excellent B&B.

I stayed at Tui Lodge for 5 nights and really enjoyed my stay. It's a home from home, well equipped and spotless, and perfect for those who just want peace and quiet and some friendly conversation with fellow travellers now and again. The grounds are lovely and it's just a stroll from Coromandel town where you can try out lovely sea food. I could have done more walking on the tracks around town but I enjoyed lounging in the garden and the Gazebo when it was a bit chilly. Lucy, the pet lamb is an added bonus.

We looked at the few forms of accommodation in this area and selected Tui Lodge as a result of their blurb. We were certainly not disappointed! A phone call to book confirmed our choice of stay with a very friendly, informative response from Rex .

From arrival to departure, we felt at home, valued and welcomed by Rex and Joyce. The cuppa and cake on arrival, set out in the back garden amidst lush trees to the wine from their own cellar as a pre dinner drink, the ride to and from the local restaurant for dinner, and fresh fruit and avocadoes from their own garden for breakfast helped us to enjoy this a wonderful place to stay.

The round lounge room was a perfect place to sit, chat and share a wine.

We would thoroughly recommend this place of peace and friends just waiting to be introduced.

We would stay there again without a second thought.

I alredy knew Tui Lodge from a former trip. My dream was to come back sometime.
And - my dream came true!
So I could show also to my family this little paradise called "Tui Lodge".
They also were fascinated from the place and the charming hosts Joyce and Rex.
It was a great pleasure to meet you and Tui Lodge again!

Thank you very much and take care, all the best to you!

Hi Rosepink2, it did have however it's showing now as "unavailable". I've not been permitted by TA to provide their email address or alternative links to assist. If you search "visit Opotiki" you'll get the iSite website who should be able to help (tourist information centre in nearest large town). Regards RR
