Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotearoa. Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland.

We were made extremely welcome by Ian and Fran who were definitely attentive hosts rather than just normal hoteliers. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was out of this world. Indeed, on the second night, as there were no other guests, we were asked what we would like to eat and Fran laid on a wonderful spread. Make sure you leave enough room for the fantastic breakfast the next morning! The accommodation was immaculate and the setting so quiet. It is a fairly isolated location and you have to eat there but it is very handy for the Kauri Forests and plenty of walks and beautiful scenery to admire. It was the most expensive place we stayed in during our 3 and a half tour around New Zealand but we judged it to be excellent value for money and will always remember the warm

What a great stay we had! Met at the car with wine upon arrival; wonderfully spacious accomodations; excellent meals; interesting other guests; lots of laughs and ideas exchanged with the lodge keepers! Many "out of the way" places to explore, including an evening Forset trek! Highly recommend!

A most wonderful welcome from the moment we drove into the car park heralded two delightful nights at this location. Gourmet food at a reasonable price accompanied by excellent wines and a wonderful relaxed ambience with charming and entertaining hosts. Add to that spacious accommodation with delightful decor amidst the peace and quiet of the surrounding countryside - we felt we had discovered a gem.

From the moment we arrived at this beautifully restored lodge our hosts Fran and Ian treated us like long lost friends the hospitality felt so comforting. The lodge is ideally situated on the edge of the Waipoua Forest home of the magnificent ' Tane Mahuta' giant Kauri tree. Our accommodation in the' Woolshed Room' done out in cool peaceful blues and white was lovely plenty of space with two rooms one fitted out with comfortable settees and two quaint loft beds the other a large bedroom with well proportioned en suite with roll top bath and seperate shower Fran has certainly found her true vocation with the quality of her cuisine from the delicious home made pate to the wild salmon finished off with the perfect creme brulee. In the morning the fresh fruit plate and English

What a fantastic place! Travelling with two kids aged 6 and 11 we couldn't have asked for a better location (despite being remote) to explore the fabulous Kauri forest and beaches of the north west coast. Fran and Ian have recently taken over Waipoua Lodge and were the most attentive, accommodating and charming hosts imaginable. Nothing was too much trouble, with fabulous food and wine as well as menus to keep the children happy and so many small thoughtful touches that make for the perfect relaxing break. The kids loved the pigs, dogs and Mr McFuggly the cat as well as the tree to climb, trampoline and bushwalks from the extensive gardens. We stayed in the Woolshed, a spacious separate lodge with double bedroom and mezzanine loft above the living room for the kids (the steep
