Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotearoa. Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland.

Highly recommend this lodge. The hosts, Grace and Jonty, are very pleasant and accommodating. They made us special (and delicious) vegan meals, without any fuss. The room, the Calf-Pen, is very nice. All in all, we had a lovely time.

Couldn't ask for anything more. Hosts Grace and Jonty provided us with a fabulous relaxing weekend. The lodge is a 100+ year old farmstead and outbuildings situated just south of the Waipoua Forset, convenient for short trips to a number of attractions in the area. Our suite was the Woolshed which, as the name suggests, was the sheep shearing shed beautifully converted into a luxurious suite. Outstanding feature for us this weekend was the fantastic food served in the lovely cosey dining room in the main house. The food would easily compared with anything found in fine dining restaurants throughout the country. Highly recommended this comfortably elegant lodge.

This was a very comfortable luxurious cottage. We were very well looked after by the hosts. If you come here we suggest that you plan to have dinner - it was superb. We wish we had more time to rest, relax and explore. You will certainly be impressed.

We enjoyed a wonderful stay at the Waipoua Lodge while we explored the Kauri Coast for the first time. What a unique historical homestead providing such a quiet place to relax at the end of a day. Our cottage was wonderfully appointed and very private. The hosts Lily and Grace made us feel so welcome and the lodge lounge area was a great space to enjoy a few drinks with a lovely meal. Thanks for topping off a great weekend.

There does not seem much choice in this area of nice places to stay but this is rustically attractive. The Calf Pen at NZD650 for one night does seem expensive for what it was. Our hosts were very pleasant and cooked dinner (an extra NZD95 per person) - this was fine although the vegetables were a bit overcooked for my liking. There is a little forest walk through the grounds.

Hi Tim! Thank you for taking the time to write an honest review for Waipoua Lodge, we are of course disappointed that your stay wasn't 100% perfect for you. We appreciate guests who write reviews on trip advisor but it is much better for us to learn about an issue or concern while you are still at the lodge, such as the issue with your dinner, because if we are not told at the time we can't rectify this is a way that is suitable for you. It would be helpful to know exactly what was not up to a good enough standard for you? Please feel free to email me directly with any concerns or comments grace@waipoualodge.co.nz Thanks again! Grace
