An excellent location near the Waipoua Forest, quiet and meditative with beautiful gardens and bush walks. Ann and Fiona are excellent hosts and made us feel very welcome. The Lodge for meals and relaxing is beautifully renovated with lots of fascinating photos and objects to enjoy. The meals were superb and the Creme Caramel was sublime. Our accomodation was great, clean and well thought out.
Amazing Lodge in a remote location, close to the Kauri forest and the beach. We enjoyed Tane Mahuta and the Kauri Forest walks, Trounson Kauri Park and Maunganui Bluff beach. We also had time to relax in the hot tub, read a book on our suite’s veranda overlooking the Lodge’s forest and wandered through the gardens. We are already planning a return trip to relax by the fire with a book. The hosts, Ann and Fiona, were very friendly and accommodating - they stopped at nothing to make our stay special and comfortable. Their knowledge of the surrounding walks and area was so helpful for making our plans. The food was delicious, think fine dining but with a garden to table feel about it. Thank you for an fantastic break away, We will be back!
Ordinary accommodation with aspiration to be superior. And you pay for that aspiration, not for what you are getting. Clean, but cold, and in the middle of nowhere. The hostess quite rude, condescending, needy for attention, using the guests’ private time for her own entertainment. Understandable, considering how remote the place is, but not nice, no privacy for the guests. If you wanted to celebrate a special occasion - forget about it, the hostess will use your time. Good chef, but be prepared to pay two hundred dollars just for food for two people. Drinks are extra. Overall - waste of money, and very disappointing.
We stayed here for 3 nights whilst exploring the Kauri Coast. Ann and Fiona are such lovely and generous hosts. We stayed in The Stables - super comfortable bed, clean and spacious room with a beautiful bath. The location is remote which was perfect for us - quiet nights, clear skies for stargazing, but close enough to all the Kauri Coast has to offer. The meals were delicious and the hosts were incredibly warm and friendly. Highlights for us were - Ann's pancakes (and amazing lemon curd), Fiona's sticky date pudding (and all the other yummy meals), sitting in front of the fire reading a book and having a conversation with Ann and Fi. We hope to return one day - thanks both for an amazing time!
We had a lovely overnight stay at Waipoua Lodge last month. It is a charming old house with an interesting history. The guest accommodation has been developed from old farm outbuildings - ours was the Calf pen suite. Very luxurious and comfortable. Ann and Fiona made us very welcome and cooked us a beautiful dinner and breakfast. Highly recommended.
