An excellent Lodge with very friendly hosts at Kauri Coast. A delicious dinner made by Fran herself with matching wines. Central location for visiting Kauri trees at the Waipoua Forest or Trounson Parc.Great hospitality!!

Lovely spot just outside the Waipoua Forest. Comfortable and attentive proprietors who make wonderful meals. The room was spacious and the amenities were pleasant. We completely enjoyed the friendly and personal stay at Waipoua Lodge.

From the moment we arrived, Ian and Fran made us feel like we were coming home. Their hospitality was the best we had experienced during our trip to NZ. The lodge was clean, warm and inviting. The room was amazing! Very comfortable, with a big bathroom, little kitchenette area, lounge room, and big bedroom. They thought of everything, from the...

Fran and Ian provide an oasis of elegance within driving distance of the famous Waipoura Forrest. After gazing at the ancient trees, you can return for a gastronomic 3-course meal, gracefully served by Ian. And Fran will invite you into her kitchen to see how she makes her incredible lemon souffle before you are re-seated to savor the experience. And...

We stayed two nights at the Lodge, and wished it could have been more. Fran and Ian are wonderful hosts providing not only sound advice about what to visit and when but also the most superb meals (Fran is a highly accomplished cook, and Ian knows his wine). The Lodge is situated close to magnificent kauri trees in the Forest,...

No question that the owners/operators, Fran and Ian made this stay fabulous! Fran's cooking rivals the best of New Zealand luxury lodges with out the 5 course formality! This is a charming, fully restored, historical property. Highly recommend the sheep sherrer's cabin- perfect for a family or a couple! Evening forest tour was a magical experience.

We had the best stay at Waipouli Lodge New Zealand. The location was amazingly beautiful in the forest with the Kauri pines but what made our stay so unique were our hosts Fran and Ian. In all of the travels I've done I've never met hosts like them- hospitable without being overbearing, informative about the region, amazing cooks, remembered little...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge - creating a memorable guest experience. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotea-roa (land of the long white cloud). Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest … you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland. Host Ian offers personalised guided tours of the local area and hands on talks and demonstrations of the history of the ancient kauri and the early pioneers and gumdiggers. If you have a love of food, cooking and entertaining, then dining at Waipoua Lodge will be an experience to remember. Spending some time with host and chef Fran at the lodge's cooking school could simply be the ‘cream on your dessert!’ ... more   less
