Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotearoa. Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland.

Oh my! The reviews I read were right. This lovely place, wonderful hosts, comfortable accommodation, fine dining, and a good time with new friends, our hostesses and fellow guests. We enjoyed the conversation with all present. Ann gave us great advice on seeing the area. She is the best, and will definitely be a consultant for any travel to New Zealand.

Fiona and Ann were very helpful and communicative in the run up to our stay, encouraging us to take in a few activities and venues which had not been on our original plan. The Trounson Kauri Park and Waipoua Forest Night Walk are both recommended. We missed out on dinner but it looked and smelt wonderful with other guests very complimentary, although we did enjoy a glass with our hosts on our return from the night walk. Breakfast was great, a highly recommended venue.

Ann and Fiona were superb hosts during our stay at Waipoua Lodge. They welcomed us warmly, provided all the information we needed and were always available to answer any question or provide assistance. Our room was spacious and comfortable - particularly the bathroom. The food at breakfast and dinner was delicious. Our hosts provided excellent table service, with just the right pacing, drinks service and opportunity for conversation. Though we had good weather and an active outdoor agenda, the Lodge would be a relaxing space to spend a rainy day. The overall setting is lovely, and we would certainly enjoy staying again sometime.

The lovely ladies at this beautiful lodge made us so welcome. Ann and Fiona were fabulous hosts and were informative about the local area and gave us some great ideas on where to stop on our next journey. We stayed in The Calf Pen which I can highly recommend. My only regret is that we were only staying the one night. Thank you Ann & Fiona xxx

The very best place to stay on North Island. One night wasn't enough! Delicious evening meal and breakfast. Warm and welcoming hosts who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. This was our favourite stopover on our 30 day New Zealand tour. This is definitely one not to be missed. Loved the Twilight Waipoua Encounter too.

Our stay at Waipoua Lodge exceeded our expectations! The historic main lodge was beautiful and welcoming. We stayed in The Stables, which was spacious and private. Ann and Fiona were the perfect hosts, and went out of their way to accommodate us, including customizing the dinner menu to our choice and recommending walks of interest in the area. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and it worked out well to take our meals at the Lodge. The gardens were truly beautiful - thank you again Ann for touring us on the bush walk! We had a delightful stay and highly recommend staying here.

I deleted my original review as I inadvertently gave them a 4 star rating when they absolutely deserve a big fat 5! This is a lovely inn. Sue and Fiona run this place and it feels like you’re visiting cousins. The grounds are beautiful with gardens and a bush walk. The rooms are spacious if not a bit ordinary. Very homey though. Sue can cook a mean breakfast and dinner as there are no places in the area to go. You are in wilderness. Hospitable comes to mind. They are the type of people you would want to visit with again. So accommodating.

What an amazing place! This is a 5* all around. The property, beautiful and so serene (enjoyed the bush walk), the Lodge was full of charm and history. The accommodation (we stayed in the Calf Pen which was very spacious and luxurious). The food, both dinner and breakfast was definitely like eating in a 5* restaurant it was so delicious! Last, but not least … the hosts, Ann and Fiona, were wonderful; so passionate about what they are doing and the land around them. Our only regret was only spending one night there :(. Thanks for such wonderful memories.

Normally, this lodge is for those on their way to see the Kauri trees in the Waipoua Forest, but I would argue that the Waipoua Lodge is worth the trip all on its own. A wonderful old style converted farm with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Nothing super modern, but that is precisely not the point. Warm welcome by the owner couple who obviously run their little gem very efficiently. Comfortable and stylish dining room in the main house. Delicious dinner with excellent New Zealand wine make one feel even more at home. Breakfast in the old English style was another highlight. We were, indeed, on our way to see the Kauri trees, but we regretted not having planned to stay longer at this wonderful little lodge.

I don't usually submit TripAdvisor Reviews but was compelled to submit an "Outstanding" Review for Waipoua Lodge. The location is very scenic and the facilities are "top notch". Make sure you take the Twilight Walk of the Forest with the Mouri Guide. Very well done, Lastly, Ann and Fiona are wonderful individuals who are a please to met. They do everything possible to make you feel "at home". If you go to New Zealand - make an effort to stay at the Waipoua Lodge.
