Experience true New Zealand hospitality. Waipoua Lodge is a little piece of luxury etched in history where you can experience true New Zealand hospitality whilst travelling Northland’s Twin Coast Discovery Highway. This circular route provides two diverse coastlines which offer in just one region, so much of the natural environment which is our beautiful Aotearoa. Nestled on a ridge overlooking the vast Waipoua Forest – home of the ancient and iconic kauri trees, Waipoua Lodge offers relaxing, warm and authentic New Zealand hospitality and the perfect location from which to explore the beautiful and often undiscovered Kauri Coast - Pathway to Northland and Naturally New Zealand’s Ancient, Eco & Cultural Destination. With the mixture of yesteryear in the old Kauri lodge, home to artefacts from the Kauri logging era, to the four acres of garden and tranquil bush walk surrounded by pasture and forest you will be inspired and all within an easy 3 hour drive from Auckland.

I deleted my original review as I inadvertently gave them a 4 star rating when they absolutely deserve a big fat 5! This is a lovely inn. Sue and Fiona run this place and it feels like you’re visiting cousins. The grounds are beautiful with gardens and a bush walk. The rooms are spacious if not a bit ordinary. Very homey though. Sue can cook a mean breakfast and dinner as there are no places in the area to go. You are in wilderness. Hospitable comes to mind. They are the type of people you would want to visit with again. So accommodating.

What an amazing place! This is a 5* all around. The property, beautiful and so serene (enjoyed the bush walk), the Lodge was full of charm and history. The accommodation (we stayed in the Calf Pen which was very spacious and luxurious). The food, both dinner and breakfast was definitely like eating in a 5* restaurant it was so delicious! Last, but not least … the hosts, Ann and Fiona, were wonderful; so passionate about what they are doing and the land around them. Our only regret was only spending one night there :(. Thanks for such wonderful memories.

Normally, this lodge is for those on their way to see the Kauri trees in the Waipoua Forest, but I would argue that the Waipoua Lodge is worth the trip all on its own. A wonderful old style converted farm with spacious rooms and bathrooms. Nothing super modern, but that is precisely not the point. Warm welcome by the owner couple who obviously run their little gem very efficiently. Comfortable and stylish dining room in the main house. Delicious dinner with excellent New Zealand wine make one feel even more at home. Breakfast in the old English style was another highlight. We were, indeed, on our way to see the Kauri trees, but we regretted not having planned to stay longer at this wonderful little lodge.

I don't usually submit TripAdvisor Reviews but was compelled to submit an "Outstanding" Review for Waipoua Lodge. The location is very scenic and the facilities are "top notch". Make sure you take the Twilight Walk of the Forest with the Mouri Guide. Very well done, Lastly, Ann and Fiona are wonderful individuals who are a please to met. They do everything possible to make you feel "at home". If you go to New Zealand - make an effort to stay at the Waipoua Lodge.

After bugging out of Paihia, we proceeded to the West Coast of Northland and hiked down to Martins Beach, a lovely white sand strand just past Omapere. Heading South winding through the ancient Kauri Forest we landed late afternoon at the Waipoua Lodge. This petite, superbly managed accommodation is a large part of why travel is so fun. The place has a B and B feel with four separate luxurious guest suites. Our suite was neat as a pin, thoughtfully and stylishly furnished. Immaculate bathroom with great water pressure and a back porch looking out over a nicely landscaped exterior folding into a small rainforest. Your hosts are Ann and Fiona who could not be more welcoming or helpful. That help included churning out extra ice and soda water for pesky Americans who always seem to require both in great volume. The lamb dinner was exquisite opened with curried soup and ended with light cheesecake and sorbet. Ann secured us the best red vino we have had to date (Australian). Post sunset we wandered down to a privately located hot tub for a night cap to scour the starlit skies for the Southern Cross. Breakfast was equally fabulous. We have a month to travel this gorgeous country and there will be other high points but our stay at Waipoua Lodge will always count as highly memorable. …

What a beautiful property and such a magnificent location! We had the most wonderful experience with the helpful and charming owners, Ann and Fiona. In addition, the dinner we were served was one of the best meals we had during our month long stay in NZ. Meticulous to the core, we were asked beforehand about food allergies and preferences, and any concerns we had were alleviated by the care we received. Our comfort was paramount, even extending to finding us a local doctor as I had a medical issue that required attention. If you're visiting the Northland, don't pass up an opportunity to stay at the Waipoua Lodge. It's an extraordinary place run by very special people.

Anne and Fiona were the best hosts! We stayed in the Woolshed, the accommodation had everything you could wish for including comfortable bed, lounge, lovely outdoor seating and nicely equipped kitchen. The grounds were stunning, and the main lodge dining area just so relaxing. The breakfasts and dinners were sensational. Both Anne and Fiona also offered activity suggestions for the surrounding areas that suited us perfectly. A great, relaxing, unique holiday experience in a great region.

Waipoua Lodge totally exceeded our expectations. Fiona & Ann gave us a wonderful welcome and were the perfect hosts. The location is quite remote but ideally positioned for the impressive Waipoua Forest. The property is an old farm estate and we stayed in the woolshed which was luxurious and spacious and we had a delicious dinner and breakfast cooked for us. We have no hesitation in recommending The Waipoua Lodge.

Waipoua Lodge exceeded all our expectations. The website photos are good, yet don't quite do it justice. Not sure how one would capture this place in pictures. From the arrival greeting by Ann to the gourmet dinner prepared by Fiona, we were constantly impressed. The quality and cleanliness of the rooms were superb. We spent time after dinner in the jacuzzi, which was a welcome treat. Our only regret was just spending one night. It is a place to unwind and experience nature. There is also an extensive library and many many videos for additional entertainment. Everything was first class. The lodge guests were international - from Germany, Switzerland, France, and the U.S. Makes for interesting interchanges if desired. Tane Mahuta is a short drive away. Treat yourself and be sure to stay at Waipoura Lodge. It's a true delight.…

Thank you for your compliments and we agree that our time together was too short. We particularly enjoyed conversations with the three of you about the various parts of the world where we all have lived. Trust the rest of your journey in Aotearoa was everything you dreamed of, and that the New Year brings joy and good health to you and your loved ones.
