Detailed Reviews
We stayed at les Bournais for four nights. It's the best Chambre D'Hotes we've found in France. The rooms are superb both in comfort, decor and space and Florence and Phillipe are wonderful hosts (and even let me practise my French!). We ate dinner with them and it was superb. The farm is beautiful and so peaceful that we overslept. we hope to return.

We have been staying at Les Bournais for almost 10 years, sometimes with family and friends, and it is quite simply the best B&B we have found in France.
Phil & Flo are wonderful hosts, the rooms are superb and the atmosphere is marvellous.
We look forward to staying here for years to come.

Wonderfully restored and rebuilt farmhouse, about a half kilometer off the road on a one lane farm road. Beautiful location, wonderful hosts, Phillipe and Florence, comfortable clean rooms, superior breakfast, - all for a very reasonable price. Too many good things to say.... Just come if you can!

We just got back from spending four days at Les Bournais in the town of L'lle Bouchard. What a find. The old farmhouse has been restored beautifully. Our room was quite spacious -- a nice change after Paris. And our hosts, Flo and Philippe, really set the bar high when it comes to French hospitality. No wonder so many folks come back and stay with them again and again.
The location in the town of L'lle Bouchard is a good one for those who want to explore the side of the Loire Valley west of Tours. You are close to Chinon, Langeais, Villandry and Azay le Rideau -- all spots worth a visit.
But the real charmer is the Les Bournais and it's owners. Our room had plenty of room, a fridge, a little sitting room, full queen size bed plus Wifi. And of course every morning we got to have a wonderful breakfast prepared by Florence. Plus if we had any questions about the area or a travel situation, they were able to provide the answers. This is hospitality at it's best.

This place is fantastic. We stayed in "la Petite Maison" which has a full kitchen, two sleeping rooms and a full bath and living room. It was everything you could ask for. We were so comfortable that we did not want to leave. Breakfast was excellent, our hosts Phil and Florence ate with us and made us feel like we were in our own home. Being American we normally eat more than the French do and Florence was more than happy to provide eggs and oat meal. They welcomed us warmly and made us feel quite at home. This B&B is 5 star....

We spent two wonderful days at Les Bournais, a delightful converted farmhouse in the quiet countryside. We can't recommend this establishment more highly. Our accommodation was superb, the breakfasts were wonderful, and we were so pleased to have enjoyed dinner al fresco with our delightful hosts. Flo's cooking is just superb, and the enjoyment that she and Phillippe have to receive guests made our stay the most pleasant we've had in a B&B. We'll definitely be back.

We were here in 2015 while visiting the castles of the Loire Valley. It's a superb location with plenty of charm, perfect for exploring the area. Philippe and Florence are great hosts that made us feel like home. Thank you, it was a pleasure to be there.

We stayed in this charming and serene location for 4 nights and it served as a wonderful base to explore many aspects of the Loire Valley including Chinon, Amboise, Chenonceaux, Villandry Gardens, as well as a vineyard tour and day of biking. We stayed in what was essentially a small apartment, equipped with kitchen and washing machine that was decorated in a lovely fashion and was a great accommodation. The absolute highlight however, was spending time with our hosts, Florence and Phillipe who have the amazing capacity to connect and converse. We had several mornings of an amazing breakfast (eggs as you wish, copious cups of coffee, delicious croissants, marmalade and fruit by Florence) and great conversations with our fellow guests and our wonderful hosts that lasted well into the late morning. We wouldn't trade a moment of it. Phillipe seems to have lived everywhere in the world and both he and Florence are generous with their kindness and laughter. We left with a feeling that we had made new friends in Florence and Phillipe and that is special and rare indeed. We highly recommend!

Last year we chose to stay for the first time at Les Bournais, as part of a visit to France and in particular the Loire Valley. We had travelled from Tasmania in Australia. Les Bournais was a wonderful choice. It was a relaxed Chambres d'Hote, with excellent accommodation, informative and accommodating hosts, Florence and Phillipe, and is ideally positioned to travel the short distances to places of interest such as Chinon, Azay Le Rideau, Amboise and Richelieu in the French country side.
Our first stay was remembered for the fellow travellers at the long table breakfasts and at the special evening meal with a wonderful dinner cooked by Florence, made from local produce and served with local wines selected by Phillipe, and for the conversation with other guests from all countries and all walks of life.
We so enjoyed our stay at Les Bournais last year that we returned this year for a second stay for five nights. The courtyard garden surrounded by the guest accommodation and in turn the surrounding farmlands remain inviting and relaxing, and the hosts are the same charming, delightful, entertaining and generous couple, serving the most enjoyable local produce and providing great hospitality.
You should stay at Les Bournais, and use it as a base to see the surrounding areas for a taste of France, the Loire Valley and the area's history. If you do, you will need a car or at least a bicycle. A leisurely breakfast is served daily with other guests and Phillippe and Florence, and dinner was served twice a week when we were there. The overall experience is...

We did a motoring tour starting in Le Touquet and then to various locations on the way to and in and around the Loire Valley. Our first stop was at Giverny to see Monet's garden and stayed at a lovely B&B there (the subject of another review) and the lady there, Sandrine, recommended us to stay at Les Bournais to explore the Loire Valley and the Châteaux of the area.
How fortunate was that!! Les Bournais is absolutely delightful. The rooms are spacious and elegant but very comfortable indeed and spotlessly clean. The proprietors,Philipe & Florence Martinez could not have been more welcoming and gracious if we had been old friends and we soon felt that we were!
The breakfasts are superb with omelettes or boiled eggs to add to the normal (but very substantial) French breakfast and are all served "en famille" with the other guests which made a very pleasant atmosphere. Indeed one night a week they also lay on a "Guest Dinner" which they attend as well as serve and it was a delight as we met some very charming Americans who we spent quite a bit of time with.
We stayed at quite a few B&Bs on our tour and without exception they were all good but Les Bournais takes the top prize of all.
