Duration of stay : 1 night

This was a surprise anniversary trip for my wife and so I went all out, we spent the remaining 3 nights at the FS Jimbaran.

Check In process: We hired our own car from the airport, the journey was about an hour+ to the resort. A very unassuming entrance in between a number of shops on a street. Its another world once you're in the resort. The check in was seamless. We were greeted at the entrance and were escorted to the reception.

Villa/Room: To our surprise we were upgraded to the pool villa. We had an outdoor sitting area, a small pool , large room / bathroom and an outdoor shower. Shower room itself felt small, everything else was spacious. Most comfortable bed we've slept on! Room has all the usual amenities, ie USB outlets, international adapters, etc. must commend FS for their conservation efforts. Drinking water is only available in glass bottles which is locally sourced. WIFI connection was fast, no problems there. Full selection of TV channels.

We were surprised with a bottle of champagne and cakes, which was very thoughtful.

Restaurant: We had lunch which in which we felt was average. We tried the local menu, nasi goreng which unfortunately was bland. We did provide feedback. The breakfast is available via a menu, unlimited of course. The breakfast dishes were out of this world. Ingredients were extremely fresh and plenty of healthy options available including gluten free, vegan options.

Spa/Gym: Managed to use the gym which is very well equipped, all treadmills have Netflix, YouTube apps on them. The locker rooms are very modern and include steam and sauna rooms. Unfortunately we didn't get to try the spa and so cant comment there.

Pool: Didn't get to try the pool but it has an a beautiful view of the river flowing below.

Resort: The resort is spread out and there is a sense of privacy for all guests. For kids there is a day care centre which is managed by a full time staff. The buggy service was very efficient. If you're looking to unwind, relax and have good food this is the place to spend your holiday at in Bali.

We spent 4 amazing nights at this top notch Ubud hotel. Our room was a river facing villa (19) and was just absolutely perfect. From the plunge pool, to outside seating/eating area, to the outdoor shower, spacious closet and luxurious bathroom. Perfect bed and pillows. The spa treatments we booked were amazing - Balinese massages are so relaxing. We had booked a night time spa ritual (massage and facial) to be done by the river, but as we visited in rainy season it was moved to their spa villa - still a great experience but outside would have made it even more special. Aerial yoga was so much fun in their yoga bale. Must do the Chef’s Table Dinner. A wonderful experience to be immersed into Balinese cooking techniques, traditions and incredible food and outstanding service. Property although being 20 years old, it still feels very modern but also holding true too it’s roots. The grounds are kept immaculate with working rice paddies and vegetable gardens dotted around the resort. The staff here are what really make this place special. The assistant GM tirelessly helped us locate our misplaced passport, without stress or annoyance and took care of everything like it happens every day - Thank you Putu! They learn your names and remember them! We have never had an experience like this in any other Four Seasons. Thank you Gianni and your team for making our 20th wedding anniversary so very very special. We will return and highly recommend this hotel if coming to Ubud.

This hotel exceeded our expectations on all levels. The entrance to the hotel is enchanting and, overall, the setting is gorgeous. We booked through the American Express Fine Hotels and Resorts Program and were upgraded to a villa with a private infinity pool. The villa had wonderful indoor and outdoor space and was meticulously maintained.

The service was flawless. From the very helpful concierge desk, which assisted with transfers and bookings both before and after our stay, to the staff in the spa and fitness center, the restaurant and bar staff, and the housekeeping staff-all were well trained and dedicated to enhancing their guests’ experience.

There also were many activities on offer at the hotel. We took a private river rafting trip organized by the hotel, and participated in several complementary yoga classes, as well as a special, full moon yoga class. We also made good use of the fitness center, which was well equipped, and we each had massages at the spa on two different occasions. The spa atmosphere was zen-like and the spa therapists were great.

The breakfast included in our room rate allowed us to order unlimited items from their ala carte menu, in addition to accessing a small buffet of fruits, juices and smoothies. The servers also passed an assortment of delicious breakfast pastries. For lunch and dinner, we enjoyed both the traditional Balinese menu offered at the Ayung Terrace and the western menu at the Riverside restaurant. All of the food was outstanding.

The lobby bar served excellent cocktails and, one evening, was the setting for a traditional Balinese dance performance.

Fantastic! We would go back in a heartbeat.

This is an amazing property while you could absolutely experience luxury in the jungle. We were welcomed by a host with a traditional ceremony. Just a small touch makes big difference! The two-complex suite is like home back to Four Seasons. The Spa facilities and treatment were also wonderful, where you can spend your time there all day. The resort restaurant served an unlimited a-la-carte breakfast, with different options and high quality of food and beverage. Every staff in the resort are super helpful and accommodating. Many thanks to Mr. Gianni Costa for the warm welcome and the hospitality, who managed this resort and make every guests are enjoying the stay here.

We were staying here because the resort is near Ayung River and we had always craving to stay near that river, so we decided to pick this resort. We loved every single bits of this resort from the architecture, the service, the food, the view, everything. The staffs were so nice and helpful.

We were staying at their river front villa, and we love the fact we could hear the sound of the river and knowing the whole villa was so clean. During this pandemic, cleanliness really is the most important part and we love how everything in the resort looked properly cleaned. Their staff's attentiveness and their efficient check in processes also one of the highlights from this resort.

We also love their food selections, kinda surprised they actually offer japanese set for breakfast. So we tried the set and fell in love with the gindara, the bread selections were so good too.

Overall, we love this property so much and can't wait to be back and after the whole pandemic is over, we really wish we could bring our kids too. Cuz i'm pretty sure mine would really love this place.

Kudos to the resort and the whole staffs for always maintaining their professionalism and good service!

My first visit to the Four Seasons Ubud was a 1997 when Royal Row was the manager. This was my first truly exceptional five star hotel that I have ever visited and set in motion the chain of events that would leave me 100s if not thousands of five star hotels around the world.

Four Seasons Sayan could be considered spiritual journey that excites all of your senses from the smell of the aromatic essential oils to the sound of the traditional Balinese Music played in the common areas to the exceptional spa treatments that are offered nowhere else in the world or the sounds of the river flowing through the valley.
We arrived around 7 o’clock at night the hotel was mysterious with a huge fire at the entrance and suspension bridge over a deep gorge walking towards A huge pond on the other side of the suspension bridge and then realizing that there’s a staircase in the middle of it that takes you down into a five story building which is the main lodge for the hotel.
once we checked in we were whisked away in a golf cart to our room which was another pond on a beautiful terrace of rice patties and flowers and Descending down a staircase through the pond into one of the most beautiful rooms I have ever experienced in my life.
The plunge pool outside my room was perfectly juxtaposed on the side of the mountain with the river in the rain forest dipping in the pool. Balinese antiques abounded in the room and throughout the property. The food was excellent very creative dishes from Indonesia and pretty much anything you would like to order.
Every night was a different activity from native Balinese dances to Javanese puppet shows.
The spa experience there was probably one of the top five in my life with the aromatic essential oil rituals and expertly trained masseuse and after the massage a refreshing and relaxing sauna or steam room and also an option of using one of their many hot tub’s that faces the rain forest in the river.
I don’t travel to Bali much anymore but I will never forget my first true love❤️

Four Seasons in Sayan is mind blowing. It is set against the most lush rainforest arranged down a hill towards a magical river producing the most dramatic soundtrack. There simply cannot be a more luxurious yet at the same time relaxing place on earth.

But (yes there is a but) here are my issues that, despite the paradisiacal setting, just turn your stomach several times a day. Basically, I don’t like the obvious rip-offs. If I get ripped-off I don’t want to notice. I like to drink good wine, I am prepared to pay for it and expect it to be seriously marked up in places like the Four Seasons. However, their wine list is very average, the vintages are generally not right and the mark up is, in some instances tenfold. The transfer to the airport is three times a local transport in exactly the same car. And then there is the minibar: Why is it that there are still hotels where you pay 1000’s a night that charge you for basics like sparkling water or a coke? Wouldn’t it be so much more pleasant if whatever is in the bar is included. Make us pay more for the room. It is a ridiculous amount anyway.

The staff make a place like this one and they are all really lovely. But there is a look of terror in their eyes, a fear of not being attentive enough, just a little too much on the “How is your holiday?, How was your meal?, Where are you from?, How is ...? When I entered the compound and notice security searching the staff’s scooters at shift change on their way home, I feel uncomfortable. Just uncomfortable enough for me to overlook the splendor of the place. When you stay in such a place, the last thing you want to notice is the ruthless corporation behind it.

Dear Pleasecarrymedaddy, Thank you for taking the time to share how you have experienced Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan. I am delighted to read that you enjoyed the feeling of the place in its setting and presentation. Thank you also for sharing the 'aftertaste' in detail. I am a firm believer that constructive feedback leads for improvements, and your comments have surly not fallen into deaf ears. Particularly the Limousine and Minibar offerings are on our radar, so thank you for your feedback on this. With regards to your comment on our employees; allow me to say that it is a first for us to hear that our employees are working under fear. We at Four Seasons are known for strong employee engagement and relationship. I am happy to share that besides all activities that we do and offer for our employees, we have achieved highest scores in our regular employee surveys. Security checks on shift ends are globally common, so nothing unusual that you have observed. For the wine offerings, believe me, as a wine lover I am equally frustrated. Unfortunately import regulations and governmental implications on wine are most challenging, which reflects what you have experienced. Nevertheless, I would hate to think that this would discourage you from returning in the future. If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me at gianni.costa@fourseasons.com. I am looking forward to welcoming you back to Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan in the future. Sincerely, Gianni

I had read about this hotel before I arrived, but was still very pleased on arrival of the extreme attention to detail of every aspect of our arrival. Everyone was very welcoming and extremely kind. The property is absolutely beautiful. We took an early morning walk which was like taking a walk in the most beautiful jungle with pools and a river running through the property.

One sentence: truly magical amazing stay at FS Sayan. More than expected! Stayed 2 nights at FS Sayan followed with another 2 nights at FS Jimbaran (will separately review). Thank you for the upgrades and the good deal.
The property is huge and very beautiful, the huge garden is pretty and well maintained, so much immerse with nature, you can hear the nature sounds, you can see staggered paddy field, you can see waterfall. The main lobby and the restaurant with Ayung river on the side is artistically designed, with the lotus pond on top of it.
Staffs in the hotel are all proactively ensuring our stay is good. They are very accommodating. I put a special request to not have any bug inside our room, and this is well taken care off. Not even 1 bug! Even Pak Sena, come to me next morning to ensure our stay is good. All team in the hotel is friendly from heart. Visited during Covid pandemic, the resort ensure health protocol in the room and in the general area without the guest feeling intimidated. Kudos to the management to have successfully trained the staffs in such a way.
As for the villa itself, I can see the combination between old and new furniture, although at the same time, I can also see the attempt to blend it. One thing that disturb my eye, is the Tapestry, which according to Pak Sena is considered as antique. It is torn on the bottom and it was sewn in not a really proper way if it is antique. Pak Sena asked me if I want to take it off, but I said ok (but still wondering on that piece). Also a bit of not clean on the floor on the back of our door. And some spots of dirt in the wall. The placement of the TV seems odd, since you need to lay on the sofa for 1 person and another person to sit on the chair on the other side.
Considered the above as minor and points for improvement for FS only, and not impact our stay experience as amazing. Thank you for your hand writing welcome note, Mr Rao, appreciate it. Wishing you and all the team, and FS Sayan all the very best, stay strong during this pandemic, and all the success in the future.

I recently visited Bali after a first trip there twenty years ago. Back then, I toured and did not stay at the Four Seasons at Sayan. I was awestruck by the location and design of the hotel that blended seamlessly into the beautiful valley and Ayung river scenery in Ubud.
I am so happy to have stayed at the hotel for two nights during my recent visit. The hotel staff were simply amazing: so warm, friendly, hospitable and recognized me by name at each interaction.
After 20 years, the hotel is still very well maintained and the landscaping with rice fields and two-tiered infinity swimming pool overlooking the river were amazing.
During my stay, I joined the river rafting tour organised by the hotel and this is a must do!
For my early departure from the hotel (at 5am), the hotel’s food and beverage manager and his team went above and beyond again and recreated my entire breakfast spread from the previous day and had everything delivered to my room at 4:30am for in-room dining.
I wish to thank the management and the entire staff at the hotel for making my stay experience perfect!
