We stayed in the 'Apartment with mountain views' which was not in the hotel as we thought but about two minutes walk away. For us this wasn't a problem as the apartment was superb and had a lovely charmed feel about it. We loved the character of the place: the wooden ceilings and floors; the soft lighting and tasteful furniture and fittings throughout. Close proximity to the ski lift (7/8 minutes walk) and restaurants for us was also a real bonus. We had a very comfortable stay and would certainly recommend the apartment to others.

A discrete hotel strategically located between the high and low town. My room was large well and nicely equipped and comfortable and would have been maybe even better than the 3stars level if it weren't for this extra bed taking most of the available free space and leaving only a very narrow passage around the bed, What a strange and bad idea!. Large and modern bathroom. Indifferent front desk.

Beautiful, characterful hotel in a great location in a quiet pedestrianised street near bars and restaurants. Very friendly and helpful owner. Really comfortable and stylish rooms with lots of characterful Alpine touches. Great that room had two armchairs and a kettle for making tea. Really enjoyed our stay.

Bad customer service.
Due to the fact that one of the guests is in the icu for covid we had to cancel our reservation. We already paid 3000 and more euros and the person on the phone (apperently a manager) didnt even let us talk, he was only repeating that we didnt comunicate anything before hand, thing that we did via booking.
Apart from the economical loss and and the lack of empathy from the personal, we had to feel sorry for the hotel because they were not able to rent out the apartment even though it was already fully paid.
Shame on you

Does not look that nice from the outside, but once you are in, this is a great hotel. Most of the rooms recently refurbished with nice wooden mountain atmosphere and all comfort. Very clean family run hotel, convenient car park.

We decided that for our stop over in Briancon, we wanted a hotel that fitted the theme of the area and also had it’s own local atmosphere, in lieu of the basic larger chain hotels (eg Ibis etc).

We chose Hotel de la Chaussee (which is surprisingly only classified as 2 star) and were certainly not disappointed. The hotel was built in 1892, is family run, situated in the lower town and displays a typical Alps / chalet theme throughout with appropriate matching décor. Due to the age of the building, there are naturally no lifts and rooms are spread over a number of floors accessible by stairs. The proprietors were also extremely friendly.

We stayed in room 10, which was on the second floor and a good size, as was the bathroom which also had a bath. The room itself was extremely clean, nicely furnished with a comfortable bed, had wifi and local French TV programs. There was also free car parking available adjoining the hotel.

The hotel also has a lovely restaurant which offers the option of a three course menu or a la carte at reasonable prices. The food is naturally typically French and was both good quality and good portion. The only drawback is that the menu is solely in French and as the owners only speak a negligible amount of English, this could perhaps present difficulties for some people. Nonetheless, we managed to quite easily get by based on basic French learnt many years ago.

The breakfast provided was a continental style comprising basic pastries, varieties of breads, jams, yoghurts etc and was more than adequate.

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay and would have no hesitation with strongly recommending.

We stayed for one night only just to break up the drive from Italy to France, and were actually surprised by how popular the place was! The restaurant was booked out and we had to wait for at least an hour to get a table and it took another 2.5 hours before the dessert was served (we ordered a set menu). So if you want to dine in the hotel, make sure you've got enough time, and I should say the meals are definitely worth the wait! The room was small but very nice and cozy, and smelled wood, not cheap carpet as lot of 3star hotels smell like! Staff is not overly friendly (and just one of them speak English), but nothing that would stop me to come back again.

We found this family run hotel late at night on a car trip in France, right in the center of Briançon. Very pleasant reception and we got a good deal on one nights stay. Ok room with a strong antique alpine theme with very nice bathroom on 4th floor without elevator, only drawback was the door to the bathroom which didn´t shut properly. Closed parking facility right by the hotel. Breakfast (continental, paid separately) was plentiful and good. Very short stay this time but we would not hesitate to come back for a longer stay.

Wow! We loved this hotel. We have just returned from a family ski trip to Briancon and stayed at this hotel for a week.
The hotel is about 350m from the main Prorel gondola in Briancon leading to the large Serre Chevalier ski area.
Our rooms were no 7 and no 1 on the first floor ( opposite each other). The rooms are beautiful and so full of character. No 7 has a superking sized bed ( comfiest hotel bed I've slept in) and also a single. The rooms were very large with lots of lovely old wood, faux fur throws and cushions. They also had the advantage of large outdoor terraces with a view of the mountains.
Breakfast was excellent- lots of pastries/ breads/ cereals/ cakes/ ham eggs and cheese.
The restaurant was also very atmospheric and the food good with an excellent wine list. We did however find the menu a little limited- I think they need a small menu that changes daily though what they produced was very good with generous portions.
The family are lovely. They don't speak a lot of English but enough to get by. Nothing was too much trouble and pre dinner drinks were always served with crisps and/or olive tapenade and bread.
Would I go back..... Absolutely. Can't wait.
A previous reviewer said that they didn't think places like this existed any more (in the best possible way). I am so glad they do and this one is an absolute gem.
If you want clinical generic 4* this is not for you. If you fancy charm and atmosphere and a big welcoming smile then this place is right up your street. Enjoy!
