Detailed Reviews
We were only here for an overnight stop but what a little gem both the old town and this hotel proved to be. As the “highest town in France” Briancon commands beautiful and dramatic views of the surrounding mountains, together with the rather neglected and un-visited C17 fortifications built to keep the raiding Savoyards at bay. The streets are also attractive with an array of restaurants and tourist shops (not too tacky).
The auberge has the advantage of being within the walls of the old town. Recently refurbished, the hotel retains its’ very cosy, somewhat old-fashioned but charming atmosphere. There is no lift, just broad, carpeted stairways to the upper floors and rooms. It is quite charming.
Our room was on an upper floor, and although a tad small with only one window, had a large bathroom with a roomy shower.
The staff are helpful and very friendly. Breakfast was good, with a very useful egg boiler contraption which produced lovely soft eggs.
The best thing about the auberge however was their restaurant. We were there on a Friday night and it seemed to be the ‘hottest place in town’, absolutely packed. The food was of good quality and definitely did not break the bank.

Some mixed reviews on here recently but we really enjoyed our stay. It’s just about the only place to stay in the Old Town and we loved being at the heart of the action. A little old fashioned but that’s part of the charm. Staff friendly and helpful, including sorting a taxi for us on departure. Ate in the restaurant one of our two nights and the food was very good.

We stayed one night in this hotel in the middle of a medieval fortified town. Pauline was a great hostess. Breakfast was fresh and varied. A restaurant is attached to the hotel but we did not eat there.

Very rude and arrogant staff, long waiting time and the quality of food very mediocre.
We have arrived as a group of 5 during lunch time at precisely 1 pm and had to wait for almost 1 hour to get served. As an excuse the staff told us we arrived late for lunch...

Travelling for 7-days bike event Haute Route Alps. The hotel had mixed up the dates for our early start for our bike Route Briançon - Cuneo. "Not our problem that you can't have breakfast at 07.30". It was impossible to get the breakfast earlier, despite the tour organisation having ordered the breakfast for 05.30. Only due yo the receptionist "not wanting to get up early". I hope he will lose his job and never work in hospitability business again.

We spent 2 nights from 12/25 to 27/2023 in this hotel which we rate 3/5 but which perhaps deserved slightly more. Please note that our pseudo "superior" room was nice but dark and a little small. Besides, everything is small in this establishment like the restaurant and breakfast rooms. Apparently the only establishment open in the old town and therefore an “armored” restaurant! We're on top of each other and although it's good, we can't wait to leave him and go get some fresh air on these very cool Christmas nights! Interesting location in this pretty old town. However, we are generally disappointed with Briançon so we might as well go a little higher. Is it because we are from Bourg Saint Maurice?...

Twice we have come here for evening meal during the holidays. Pirade and Savoyard fondue just divine, the children's menu, what can I say about it?..... The delicious homemade breaded chickenxxxxx. We recommend this restaurant which is just excellent. The staff is very friendly. No complaints. We will come back to your establishment again and again, every year. Thanks to my brother (max radio boss 😜) for introducing us to this restaurant. Well done 😊😊

The hotel is located in the historic center of Briançon Vauban, you can get there on foot in a few minutes and you have the right to free parking just outside the walls.
Very nice, there is no lift but a beautiful staircase to access the upper floors, lots of wood and old photographs of Briançon on the walls.
I stayed in a large and quiet room, with a sitting area, equipped with a kettle for hot drinks, and a comfortable bed.
Modern and comfortable bathroom.
Everything very clean.
Good breakfast served in a nice room.
The restaurant attached to the hotel is also good.

We tried this restaurant in the historic part of the city, stopping for lunch (among other things, the only one not to be fully booked).
From the outside it may appear like many other restaurants, with a rather touristy vocation (also having the hotel attached). Inside, a typical mountain environment, all decorated in wood.
Extensive menu, including first courses and also fish options. Our choice fell on the typical tartiflette, accompanied by a few salad leaves.
Balanced final bill, considering the shared starter and a bottle of Savoy wine.

We stayed at the Hôtel de la Paix and loved our stay in the Vauban city! The ultra cozy room and the decoration of the room and the hotel do not leave you indifferent! The food is delicious and the welcome perfect! We will come back with pleasure! I recommend ++++
