Stayed for 2 nights with friends for a ski weekend. Mezzanine apartment very well equiped, comfortable but bare in mind the bunk room is tiny so for 2 adults can be claustrophobic. 8 adults is a bit of a squeeze. Old town is beautiful with plenty of good restaurants & shops.

Excellent overnight stop on the way from England to Vars leaving us only a one hour drive the following morning to the resort. We had to park in a car park just before the entrance of the old walled town as only residents are allowed to park within the walls (I think!) so bollards block the way in. The car parking was free (Friday night) although we were confused how to get out with no ticket the following morning - you need to press the "talk" button at the exit of the car park and say "English - no ticket - stuck in car park" or something along those lines! They then open the barrier. After a short walk to the residence we were given our keys by Richard straight away and climbed up 3 steep flights of stairs to our apartment. I would say that anyone with walking difficulties would find these stairs hard. The apartment was well decorated and looked good. The double bed was comfy and the pull out in the living room was too. Usual fridge, microwave, kettle etc although we did not use much of the kitchen appliances as we were eating out and only staying for one night. The bathroom could have been a little cleaner behind the door actually on the bath brim itself although this was probably an oversight as the rest of the apartment was great. There was plenty of light and some great blinds. After our meal we went into the "Spirit" bar, which is also "reception" for the apartments, for a drink where there was live music. The bar was very busy and buzzing. We stayed for one drink as we had our 12 year old daughter with us and then retired to the apartment. I did notice the noise from the bar (and we were 3 floors up) but I think that any noise does echo because of the walled town and courtyards below. It did not deter me from sleep (probably too tired from the UK drive) but my daughter said that she kept waking up (once with a dog barking too which I think adds weight to the echo theory). All in all, I enjoyed my stay - and it was great staying within the walled town. We did get a good rate on this apartment 70 euros - I don't think I would have found the full rate good value.

Apartment was modernised but not very clean, location was ok. Close to shops and bakery but isn't very easy to reach the skiing area in briancon. The bus only comes in 20min or half an hour and only drives a few times a day on sundays. Not a great skiing atmosphere in the old village of briancon. Wifi only works in the bar not in the apartments. There is a lot of noise from outside.

JUST SAY NO.
Listen: They have a beautiful website, and it sounds like you'll be cared for. Plus, just look at that location! Right in the heart of Briancon. How could you go wrong? TRUST US: Don't book here.

READ THE REVIEWS
You'll find the same story. You'll have absolutely NO service. The site promises all sorts of goodies: "A mid-week clean is provided for all stays of 3 days or more. {We stayed for 6 nights. After day 3 came and went, we asked the guys in the bar downstairs to have a clean. We were told we'd get one. And didn't. Asked again the next day. Mind you, we just wanted an extra roll or two of toilet paper and a few fresh towels, and maybe a run-over of the front hallway floor. Nope. Never saw a single soul}. "A welcome pack of teas and coffee plus complimentary organic soaps are provided for your first day." {We found 8 tiny soap rounds - the hotel give-away kind of stuff. No coffee to be seen. There was an old, party-used box of Lipton basic tea bags in one of the shelves. I guess we could have used it.....}

NO EARLY ARRIVAL
Though the site declares several times in various places that, "early arrival can be arranged", don't believe it. Just like the rest of the people who booked (paying the full, non-refundable amount up-front), we called at 3pm when we arrived in to town (as the site suggests) and were roughly told, "NO. NO early entrance."

NO INFO / NO HELP PRIOR TO ARRIVAL
A phone call for more information at time of booking, to find out if there's an oven (we were told no, but in fact, there is a new countertop oven -- one positive!), and to determine how large the fridge is/was (told it was VERY small, though again, this was misinformation that falls to their benefit. There are, in fact, TWO fridges in the large apartment we rented). Long story short, calls made in advance to help us prep ended in misinformation and a highly dismissive attitude.

STAIRS FROM HELL. CHILDREN / SKI EQUIP. / LUGGAGE = TOUGH!
The big apartment is on the 7th floor, up incredibly steep stairs. Older people, people with knee issues, or any kind of health issue that would make stairs challenging should NOT stay there. Additionally, the stairwell light was burned out, pitching the top 3 flights of stairs in to darkness, both day and night. And of course, it wasn't fixed during our stay.

NO EQUIP STORAGE
There is NO PLACE to store skis, equipment, etc. If you have your own stuff, we'd strongly suggest you rent a locker somewhere in town. Additionally, hauling your stuff up and down the steep, dark numerous staircases would be daunting, to say the least. BEWARE.

POSITIVES
The view on the church directly across the square is lovely.
There are 2 fridges; plenty of space for prepped meals from home, etc. (in the big apt.)
There is a brand-new countertop oven, perfect for lasagna, casseroles, etc.
The clothes washer worked very well. NOTE: There IS a dryer, but...it is not hooked up. We never braved trying to get it going. There IS a wonderful, heated towel bar in one bathroom that worked well to dry socks, etc.
The woodwork is beautiful. Lots of wooden beams, etc.
The shuttle bus to the Prorel gondola is just outside the city gates, only 200 meters from the hotel.
The beds were comfortable. Plenty of pillows and blankets provided.
It was WARM (important on a ski holiday).

KEEP LOOKING
There are so many great places to stay in Briancon. While the charming view and pro website will draw you in, I strongly encourage you to keep looking! Your money would be far better spent somewhere where you can (a) access any sort of help / service, (b) get what's been promised and (c) have storage for all of your equipment so you don't have to lug it up and down that seriously steep/long/dark stairwell.

Have a great time in Serre Chevalier!

The main memory of our stay here is the loud music coming from the bars downstairs at night. The music was extremely loud and went on until well after midnight. We stayed on a Friday and Saturday night.

The apartment we had was for 6 people although it would be very cramped with 6 people. Good size for 4. It is tastefully decorated and clean.

Location is fine and parking is available within a 5 min walk in an open public carpark.

If planning to ski it is best to drive to the lifts. Italy is very close also.

This place is great. We had a 2 room apartment, with full kitchen on first floor, and a wonderfull view of the church.

Friendly host, great service, friendly owner - just like a home away from home. Appreciate it.

We stayed in the Residence for 7 nights for a family Ski trip in March 2013. We chose Briancon as it is central to several ski areas that are within 10-20 minutes drive, we spent time in la Salle-les-Alpes (Villenueve), due to this being the meeting place for the great ski school Ski Connections and also it being the central area of the Serre Chavalier Ski area. We also ventured up to Montgenevre and the Milky Way Ski Area. The old town, where the apartments are located is indeed truly remarkable and brings a big smile to your face when you return home in the evening due to walking through its amazing walled fortress gates and ambling down the narrow colourful streets. You will also find a vast array of restaurants within 100 metres, although you cannot go wrong by dining in the Spirit Bar beneath the Apartments. This is manned by the Talented Richard, who appears to do everything to make your stay at the Residence enjoyable from arranging your ski requirements to serving drinks and cooking great food. We stayed in the 8 person Apartment and had plenty of room as we were 4 adults and 2 children. As the Apartment is in the Roof of the building we got fitter throughout the week negotiating the 57 steps a couple of times a day, the view though is great and overlooks the Temple and the biggest alarm clock you'll ever see resides on its tower and as a previous reviewer states kicks off from 7:00am. I would definitely recommend The Residence and found it a great base from which to explore the area and it made a refreshing change not to be tied to a resort. Richard provided assistance when required and the whole process of booking through to vacating was handled very efficiently, the only words of warning, if you drive in from Grenoble in the winter months watch out for the Col du Lauteret!

I stayed for ski vacation with my family on March 2013 and enjoyed it very much. The setting of the old city of Briancon is indeed very special, and so are the lovely attractions around this old town. The hotel is in the absolute heart of the old city, next to the old church. Prepare for ringing bells every 7am...

The 6-person apartment is spacious (we were 4), and it was very convenient to prepare meals and for the kids to have somewhere to rest and play. There was a homely feeling coming back every evening. Getting around Briancon and to the different connected resorts by car is very simple, I haven't tried the local bus. The ski shops are next to the Prorel lift and provide lockers so you don't have to carry your equipment around, however we just stored it in the car.

I definitely plan to come back

France is normally well equipped, and in particular for families with childrens.
This small residence is located in the center of the ancient village of Briancon, and it offers very nice views of the tiny streets and of the Temple, just in front.
The small apartments are fully equipped with all you need and ambients are very well separated.
Cleaning and service are faultless.
