First off the owners should not be in the albergue business as they have no idea how to run an albergue. Signage consisted of white typing paper with pink magic marker handwritten signs listing name of albergue and arrow showing the way. There were several of these paper signs over a distance of 50 meters or so. The last sign was tacked to a piece of plywood and was turned sideways. We followed the direction of the arrow as if the sign was properly placed. Within a few meters we had exited the small town. We returned to the last sign and realized they’d drawn the arrow incorrectly and instead of redoing the sign they turned it on its side so the arrow pointed correctly. No one was at the albergue . We waited about 15 minutes and then called the number taped to the door. All the woman on the phone was saying was “Hola” as we tried to convince her that we were at the albergue – “Albergue Santa Lucia aquí”. The woman kept shouting “Hola” and finally hung up. After another 10 minutes she showed up and showed us our room although she didn’t speak any English. I had booked two small double rooms for my daughter and myself. She was insisting we share a double bed in one room or share a room with two other occupants. We kept insisting we had two small double rooms booked. We showed her the booking confirmation but she had no idea what it was. She abruptly left and soon returned with another woman. She didn’t speak English either but did grasp what we had booked. Together they finally gave us the keys to both rooms and left. As they were leaving my daughter asked about the key to the front door as all other albergues we’d encountered had some system of keeping out people that might just wander in. They indicated they didn’t have a key and just left the door unlocked. My daughter slept very little as she was concerned someone might come in during the night and come into the room with bunk beds. All-in-all not a good experience!
