I spent 5 nights at Aroko Bungalows while on Rarotonga. I was picked up at the airport in Avarua by Sonny and after a quick pit stop at an atm machine,we drove through town to the bungalows.Check-in was quick and was shown my bungalow which overlooked the water. It's a beautiful location and is walking distance to Muri Beach where you can explore the night market, watersports, bar,& food. When i next visit Rarotonga,i would stay here again.

A great time had at Aroko, with outstanding host Sonny and Pat.

From the communication leading up to my stay through to the final goodbye, Sonny was outstanding and nothing was too hard.

Bungalows are modest and basic but are outstanding value for a stay in Raro. Self contained, clean, convenient location for everything Muri, and very private.

Rooms are serviced a couple times a week, but nothing is too hard if you ask Sonny.

This is not a resort stay - no restaurant, no air conditioning, etc.

Snorkelling out the back of the bungalows in good in high tide, but the lagoon does get very low in low tide. Perfect for a wander over to he motu for some exploring, or even looking over the exposed coral at some pretty cool sea life. Note, you can walk across any tide, but varying degrees of getting wet!

If you want really great value for your time in Raro, Aroko Bungalows are well worth a look.

Sonny is the best host . Helpful but allows you to do your own thing . The bungalows are clean, right in the lagoon where you can go swimming, snorkelling or use the kayaks . It is close to Muri Night markets and all other beach activities . Highly recommend !

We just loved our stay at Aroko! Waterfront. Very clean, great location with a walk along the beach to good eating places. Great well maintained gardens and fabulous views across the lagoon to the islands. We swam, kayaked and walked across to the islands. Apparently the turtles are about but we ddnt see them. Flippers, reef shoes and masks supplied. Sonny is a fabulous, helpful host and was so welcoming, with great communication. Our studio room had a kitchen at the entrance with a gas stove and oven. Big porch out back and lovely deck out front. Lots of towels and tea towels supplied. Tasteful furnishings. A pack of milk for a welcome cuppa in the fridge. Teas, etc provided. Our room was serviced every alternate day. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: A great spot to relax! We had to go to the roadside to get wifi. We couldn't access it in our room.

I was looking for a basic, self contained, quiet, relaxing spot on the waterfront with access to other amenities. Aroka Bungalows fit the bill exactly. My bungalow was exactly as described and the view from my verandah could be used as a postcard. There is easy access to snorkeling, other beaches, restaurants, food shops or the night market. Having a scooter provided easy access to all parts of the island. I plan to stay here again.

Totally recommend staying here, Sonny was such a great host, nothing is a problem, we checked in early and checked out late, as we spent a month here during COVID, so no other guests around. A real highlight for me was watching the turtles coming to feed directly out the front of the bungalows on high tide each day. No where else on the island you can see this. They eat the sea grass from the bottom of the lagoon. The location is perfect, quiet but close to everything you need. The bungalows are well loved, gardens immaculate and Sonny is always adding improvements. It really felt like home and we are very, very sad to leave but we will be back ! Thank you Sonny for a perfect stay in every way !

During the Corona pandemic we were stranded in Rarotonga. We stayed at Aroko bungalows which was the best, safest and most beatiful place to be stranded. Sonny and his family looked after us in every way. They even let us stay for free. Please book a place at this slice of paradise!

Had a wonderful stay at Aroko Bungalows! Amazing location with everything one would need for a trip away. Fully stocked kitchen, comfy bed, and all the snorkel/water sports gear you need. Highly recommend checking out Charlie’s, Sails and the Muri night market. Sonny provided great info on some cool snorkelling spots as well! Thanks so much again for a lovely relaxing holiday!

I had to cancel due to covid-19 and had trouble with airbnb. I relayed this to Sonny (so called super host) and was abused via e-mail. Tried to ring but both phones ignored. Have now been banned and can never stay there again. Sonny has an arrogance that only comes through when he is crossed and he is not a good ambassador for the Cook Islands. Very bad tempered man, looking after badly maintained bungalows

Hi Victor - can you swim at Aroko or have to walk down to Muri?
Answer from Sony72

You can't swim right out front but there are two islands in front. We walked to the one on the right and behind it - beautiful swimming with blue clams and crystal clear water and not one person in the water. Gorgeous.
