Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Kakanui is our closest surf beach and we've day tripped here often for more than a decade. Never used the campground as it has always looked unappealing but thought we would give it a go now it has new owners. So pleased we did - we'll definitely be back. It was very busy but the facilities were still clean during our stay. It would be handy if the hot shower cost was included in the site fee. We chose to stay so we could bring our dog so we were quite frustrated that while our dog and most others were on a lead, other campers let their dogs roam all over the campground - including through our site - and didn't bother to pick up their dog poo.

We have been parked up here temporarily for a few months during lockdown uncertainty.
The facilities are basic, but clean and adequate with the promise of improvement in the near future.
Because the new young, energetic owners are doing their best to upgrade the facilities and customer service, it's well worth a visit. The spot itself is well situated near the river and beach, a quiet and tranquil slice of paradise.

Tidy, small campsite in lovely kakanui. Gorgeous beach nearby, swam with dolphin, handy takeaways and restaurant in village and near by. Camp facilities basic but clean. Excellent customer service returning lost belongings to us by post with no charge. Will definitely come for another weekend.

My first time as mum camping in a tent with the kids at a holiday park. Hubby was working. Have Usually have stayed at air b and b’s in Kakanui. This stay was great! Really nice grounds and enjoyed our tented power site. Great $2 shower, kitchen facilities the office also had a caravan cord that we could borrow for power. As I brought a standard lead. A bit of rain sounds and the sound of the ocean to go sleep with. Town shop sold me his own last eggs for breakfast as shop ones were coming later that day. Great boogie boarding session at Campbell bay the next day which was the reason for the trip. Fish and chips at hampden and seal viewing at shag point on the way back home to central Otago was great.

What a great spot to relax! I stayed for a week with friends and we totally enjoyed the experience. The camp is located close to walking track and beaches and just a short drive to oamaru.
The facilities are basic but good. It’s a dog friendly camp which seems to attract friendly people.
Great spot to explore

We stayed 4 nights at this camping ground recently. We liked our cabin a lot. There is only one cabin at this camping ground it had a double bed with single bunk on top . So the cabin sleeps three but I think three people would be to many in the cabin. More suited to two people . The cabin was a good price of $50 for two people per night and had more in it than we expected. It had a good size table which folded out to make a bigger table and a heater jug and toaster and to arm chairs and small shelf unit. The cabin had a door that folded back to give indoor out door flow on to the deck which had a small table and to chairs. it was a peaceful quiet very small camp. Don't no how busy it gets during school holidays though. The kitchen and bathroom buildings were old but clean and had everything you needed accept no hot water and soap in the toilets . There is one thing that I am very unhappy about with this motor camp and that is in both the camping NewZealand book and the Jasons accommodation book the camping ground put in its blurb that if you stayed at the camp there was free entry to a penguin sanctuary and the camp even mention it on the there website saying it is just down the road at the river mouth. But it is all lies when we asked about it the camp said there was no sanctuary and he only had info about the Blue penguins in Oamaru. I feel angry about this as this is what drew me book at this motor camp.I was really excited by the thought of being able to walk down from the camp and see some penguins. The camp needs to remove the stuff about penguins from there website and from there listings in the above books for 2016.

Sunshine but windy. There are only two showers and two toilets. Having paid $10 per person it's tough to pay a further $2 each for showers.

Kitchen is basic, laundry has only washing machine and nowhere to wash by hand. The kitchen detergent bottle was empty.

Rubbish is only recycling... We had to pick up dog poo off our site ...

Not a very nice place and host not very welcoming
