Portmarnock Resort & Jameson Golf Links is often lauded for its spa and relaxation amenities, with many guests finding the massages and seaweed baths underpinned by stunning views particularly noteworthy. While the staff garners praise for their friendly and professional demeanor, some visitors feel there is room for improvement in service. The resort's location is a highlight for its beach proximity and scenic vistas, yet a number of guests consider the pricing steep, questioning the value provided by the restaurant and spa services.
The cleanliness of the resort receives high marks, with travelers appreciating the pristine condition of rooms and public areas. However, opinions on the rooms are divided; guests enjoy the comfort and views but some criticize the upkeep and outdated design. The overall atmosphere is consistently described as tranquil and refined, contributing to a serene guest experience.

5 STAR Accommodation!! Wow !! We had a view of the Irish Sea and enjoyed the sunrise each morning. Our Room was top of the line, the bed was perfect, fluffy towels with a robe and slippers available. Free standing tub and separate shower with a rain faucet overhead. I even took two baths this was a luxury as my tub at home was nothing like this one. BRIAN from the concierge needs a raise! He always seemed to be available when we needed him along with a huge smile and treated my husband and myself like we were VIP's. Nothing was too small to help us out. Selin at the front desk was pretty amazing too. She was so helpful and very friendly she made our stay a superb one. I appreciate you both very much as this was a dream vacation for us and you created that even more. Lastly the golf course was SUPER!! Breathtaking views and course was in amazing shape. I am so grateful we were able to play and had Jim as our once in a lifetime caddie. Thanks again for making our dream vacation come true!!

We had our wedding at this beautiful hotel on 7th June. Louise the events coordinator, saved us from potential disaster when she and her team took all our stress and worry on board and allievatiated any concerns we may have had due to having to relocate our wedding venue with only 10 weeks to go! Louise was able to give us everything we wanted for our wedding day and so much more, always only a call or e-mail away when we had questions or wanted to make changes.
We were so lucky and our ceremony was held in the fabulous secret garden, and after the ceremony, canapees and beverages were set up out there ready to go for our guests.
The food at our dinner and evening receptions was exceptional, and Mary took excellent care of us for the rest of the evening, very attentive to both us and each of our guests needs during dinner and evening reception. And this attention to our guests continued on through the evening with the amazing bar staff in the function room.
The Location of the Portmarnock hotel is stunning both inside and the surrounding grounds. The accommodation rooms were all absolutely spotless big and airy with beautiful beach views.
The only minor issues we came across were A lack of communication re: bridal suite changes, and initial room set up but once these issues were flagged with Louise and her team, they dealt with them immediately and everything was rectified with minimal hassle.
Overall we had a wonderful stress free day and were very grateful that Louise and team came to our rescue and would have no hesitation in reccomending the Portmarnock hotel as a special occasion venue.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
A nice Hotel that does not make the most of its seaside location. True some (more expensive) rooms face the ocean, but public areas are like any business hotel. It’s a shame. To reach the beach you walk through the car park in either direction, one up a rough little path (where staff smoke), not suitable for some. Why not have a platform at the very front and or some seating? Access to the outside and gardens was v limited everyone filtered through the front door. That said when the tide is out it’s a beautiful beach, with enthusiastic swimmers enjoying the bright sunshine in February. 🥶 pity the hotel doesn’t link more easily to the beach.
Hotels in Dublin are eyewateringly expensive. I wonder if that’s why italys fans barely made an impression at the Aviva. Just a sea of green. We came out to Portmarnock instead of the city centre to save a bit of money (even so I could only give this place 3* because it is imo so overpriced, but then everywhere else is too) and it is a lovely area.
Don’t eat in the restaurant here if you have time to travel short distance down to Malahide. Food was very average at best, v expensive, though served with a smile and the restaurant and bar area is cosy and was packed on a Saturday night.
Room was pretty nice though shower plug drained very slowly and extractor didn’t work. No minibar.
Front desk staff were exceptionally helpful - spent sometime helping with option of travel into Dublin. (Easy).
Grin and bear the price. Hotels are expensive in ireland. But at this price it should be better.

Dear annecX6882BA, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your valuable feedback, it is greatly appreciated. We are glad you had a nice stay, we are just very sorry for disappointment caused by lack of sea views during your visit. We are renovating and upgrading our Sea View Restaurant so unfortunately the area and views out to Ireland's Eye, Lambay Island and Howth Head are currently blocked out, works will be completed next month. There is a path to the beach from in front of the Jameson House short of the golf course and we are updating our internal and outdoor signage to make guests more aware of coastal paths and gardens within the grounds, plans are also in place to make the most of our wonderful seascape. Again, thank you for your very valuable feedback, we are working hard to address the issues mentioned. We are pleased you found the area lovely, along with friendly, helpful staff and hope you may return someday for a wonderful stay and seaside experience. Kind regards, Moira Cassidy, Resort Experiences Manager & Concierge Services

This is a 4 star hotel and is certainly in a great location and looks well externally. Unfortunately the interior didn't match the rest. The decor and furnishings are beginning to look tired and the cleanliness of our room was poor. There were stained white towels and the dressing gown my wife used had stained belt. Also, our room faced other rooms and there were no net curtains behind the drapes meaning for privacy, you need to close the main curtains. Also, would have expected a good range of quality toiletries. Only a large pump action bottle of standard shampoo (no conditioner) and shower gel. Staff were friendly and can't review food as we ate out, even breakfast seemed expensive. Wasn't impressed by menus or prices.

Hotel is well placed and easily accessible from Dublin airport (the 102 bus takes you here and only just over €3 per adult) The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and easy access to the lovely beach, which goes on for ever. Our room was very comfortable and overlooked the front of the hotel. A couple of things I felt could be improved for the room were:-
A small toiletry to include (cotton wool, ear buds, nail file) for the women. Perhaps a refillable hand/body lotion like the shampoo and shower gel. There were no robes in the room
The refillable shampoo and body wash was hard to determine which was which as the labels were worn (really pleased they were refilled) but better labelling would have helped, also no conditioner refillable bottles ?
We used all the restaurants at the hotel, and had a fabulous lunch. I had the shredded beef on sourdough and the potion size was enourmous, enough for perhaps 2 ladies.
Overall our stay was wonderful and would defo remcommend a stay.

The Christmas return home was tainted by the experience of our stay at this hotel.
On checking in we were presented with dirty rooms and soiled towels. They rectified by re cleaning the rooms and changing the towels, a complimentary drink for our inconvenience.
Christmas morning breakfast lacked atmosphere and the food presentation was poor , advised the team but they put it down to the time of year and the full occupancy!
The next morning a similar situation with a 15 minute wait for eggs and toast, once. Again the excuse was the full occupancy, this time a complimentary breakfast offered for two but there was three of us!!
The final straw came on the morning of checkout, housekeeping came into our room three times between 8.55 and 9.10! On each occasion we advised the room was occupied, when we complained the said it was a mistake and they meant to go to the room adjacent! Only issue was this was our room as well!!
We highlighted all of the problems on checkout and asked that they be escalated to the senior management, unfortunately no communication received from them, very disappointing for a hotel of this standard, I have no problem with paying the premium charges, but would expect premium service!

Beautiful hotel, very well kept and staff are excellent. Bad points to note:
1) the lift at the front door seldom works and I’ve been coming here for years, it’s embarrassing that the entrance to an hotel is inaccessible unless you walk
2) the food is poor and really overpriced, again this hasn’t changed over the years I’ve been coming here
3) there is no incentive to use the spa facilities, it’s not even mentioned throughout your stay
4) the alcohol is also very expensive €7.10 for a Guinness is sharp
5) breakfast service again is a little chaotic and you often get orders coming to your table meant for someone else. Staff seem to lack training or interest
Truth be told I love this hotel and its location especially to the beach but the points above genuinely spoil the whole experience, especially the lift at the main entrance, even the staff acknowledges it but yet its never fixed. God help anyone in a wheelchair 😳

I experienced numerous disappointments with this otherwise very lovely property. First, be warned that many rooms do not have air conditioning. Therefore, even if it’s a moderate temperature outside, such as the mid 60s, you’ll find your room quite warm and uncomfortable. They do provide fans for those that do not have air conditioning. My room had air conditioning so I was pretty comfortable. However, one of my golf buddies was not so fortunate.
Just checking into the hotel with your luggage is quite the challenge since there is a flight of stairs you have to ascend just to get to the reception desk. There’s a small lift next to the stairs that works occasionally. Therefore, be prepared to lug your luggage up a flight of stairs before even checking in. A staff member, if available, will help you and they all seem to have a very positive, friendly attitude. There is a small flight of stairs in the middle of the hallway on the 3rd floor after you get off the elevator. I find it very unusual to have stairs in the middle of a floor, which really adds to the stress level when you’re trying to pull luggage and a golf club travel bag to your room.
Next, I was disappointed by their lack of attention to soiled carpet outside of a room when a guest obviously became ill outside of the room. Instead of scrubbing the carpet, I was forced to look at the remnants of the person’s illness for the several days I was at the hotel. It was repulsive to see every day. Perhaps the carpet was stained beyond repair. I’ll never know, but it seemed to me that more should have been done.
My room was nice, however, the shower had moldy grout, which was also very disappointing. The shower also seemed to be rather cheaply made for the level of hotel that Portmarnock seems to be.
Last, I in advertently left a small item in the lobby at check out. The item was found, but the hotel would not ship it (at my expense of course), nor would they prepare the item for shipment so that a shipping service could pick it up. I certainly would have expected more assistance than what they were willing to provide. That is very unfortunate.
Overall, my experience was very disappointing at this property. This, after a very lovely stay for five nights at a different hotel in Dublin.

Dear Lauren B, Thank you for taking the time to write a review and for your valuable feedback, it is greatly appreciated. We are so sorry to hear about certain issues during your stay that led to an overall disappointing visit and please accept our sincerest apologies. Customer care is our priority and while we are glad you found our property beautiful, we very much regret you did not have as wonderful an experience as past guests. The critical points raised by you, were and have been addressed, new lift to reception arriving 27th July, custom ramp for small flight of stairs on 3rd floor is being reinstated. Carpet was cleaned internally, however stain itself needs to be industrially removed. Full assistance regarding lost items and shipment of same is given to all our guests, unfortunately in this instance it was not the case and we will ensure that procedures are followed so there is no recurrence. Again, please accept our sincerest apologies for disappointment caused and we hope that you may return someday and if so, have an altogether better stay and experience. Kind regards, Moira Cassidy, Resort Experiences Manager and Concierge Services

Unfortunately, we were somewhat disappointed during our stay, for the following reasons -Â
1. From our room and even the corridor an air horn type noise constantly blasted, we think every time someone ran water., sometimes occurring as often and every 30 seconds and did happen even during the night disturbing our sleep. When I raised the issue at reception it was obvious that team had been briefed to try and brush this off with minimum interaction. Â
2. The room was exceptionally warm, even though we turned the heating off, the radiators were still hot. Obviously the thermostat in our room was not working correctly.
3. We were watching TV on Saturday morning, and the signal died.  This was not fixed until around 10 hours later.Â
4. Breakfast was disappointing in that there food was scarce. This morning the fruit salad was basically a bowl of water.  No utensils were available for the sausages, bacon or black pudding and mushrooms. The pre-heated breakfast plates were so hot they were uncomfortable and dangerous to hold. No napkins etc were provided to assist with the carrying of hot plates.
5. All staff were overworked suggesting not enough staff were on shift, which engendered long uncomfortable periods of waiting to be served. Staff were seen running whilst serving food and we even overheard an a collision incident in the kitchen area which resulted in numerous members of staff having to assist. Â
The incidents involving staff are by no way a direct criticism of them personally. However, the pressure obviously put on them due lack of staff numbers on shift and possibly lack of training did impact on our experience. Â
All of the above is not what we would expect to endure at any hotel stay and unfortunately we feel nothing about our visit on this occasion would encourage us to return.
