Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We only stayed in The Cottage at Wild Earth one night on our honeymoon, but it was by far my favorite stay of the entire three weeks. We arrived in the afternoon, and settled into the cozy cottage, taking advantage of the gorgeous sunlit space, the bluetooth speakers, and the comfy, cozy furniture. We were responsible for our own meals, but it was nice to play house after more then a week of eating out. The French doors opened fully creating indoor/outdoor space, and a giant window at the foot of the bed offered the same view of the mountains. The sunset was spectacular and once it went down, we enjoyed the outdoor tub while stargazing. The kitchen had all the tools we needed, and also spices and some basics like eggs and milk. Although the main house was nearby we felt completely secluded.

We consider ourselves to be two very lucky Americans after spending an unforgettable week in the extraordinary Cottage. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. The property is a true sanctuary for anyone on holiday who wants to completely unwind in a private, beautifully designed, fully equipped home. All you need to do is bring your food and beverages and the decompression will start when you walk through the door. The only decision to be made each day is which track to walk or which book to read. The best choice might be to simply sit and relax on the back deck while watching the sky change over the Wilkin Valley. We have never seen the stars so vivid as they were from the Cottage. New Zealand doesn’t get any better than this! If you only book 1 or 2 nights here, you’ll regret that you didn’t stay longer.

Pete and his dog Cass welcomed us with a lot of warmth and enthusiasm. He introduced us to a wonderful cabin, well laid out in beautiful rustic blues and whites.
You really can relax and enjoy the beautiful view on the Mount Aspiring National Park.
Pete prepared a lovely meal for us, which we had outside as it was a nice evening. The breakfast ingredients are sufficient and the cabin is well equipped for all meals; even BBQ is possible.
Unfortunately for us the weather turned very wet the next days. Despite that we have enjoyed our walk to the Blue Pools and our ride into Wanaka.
We had one meal at the Wilderness Lodge, basic food, and next day Pete served a lovely 3 course meal for his 6 guests.
Early next morning we were waived farewell by Pete and Cass again.
We were sorry that we have missed Janine, as Pete told us, she was the real chef: she can be proud of what Pete prepared for us.

We stayed in the cottage for three nights. The furniture was wonderfully comfortable and every effort was made to provide a lovely atmosphere - from the friendly welcome to the fresh food to the bouquet of freshly cut flowers. The pastoral outlook was beautiful - including a small flock of sheep in a paddock near the house that we could watch. And the dark night skies were amazing. So many stars that we could even catch a glimpse of before we went to sleep.
This was a wonderful place to stay.

Superlative! We stayed in the Cottage which has the most beautiful, always-changing views up the valley into the mountains. Completely private, the cottage was snug and had everything we needed to bunker down when the weather closed in and prevented our Siberia adventure. We wished we had booked for more than 2 nights. Pete was an amazing host who cooked and delivered to our door a delicious dinner and gave us suggestions of walks in the area. Without doubt Pete’s friendliness, the extraordinary view and the quirky, rustic decor made it the most memorable accommodation we have stayed in in New Zealand.

We stayed one night only at Pete and Janine's superb cottage, doing a quick tour of the South Island (South) in ten days. The cottage is a unique and extremely well equipped accommodation, with generous breakfast provisions and well designed interior and exterior living spaces. Communication with the hosts was outstanding before we arrived and only improved while we were there. Pete and Janine made us so welcome - it was as if we had known them as friends for many years. And the view out towards Mt Aeolus and the Makorora River Basin in something else. Overall we were speechless by the great hospitality, location and accommodation. Thank you very much guys and I surely hope to return one day.

Janine and Pete are wonderful hosts. Their lodge is beautiful and very comfortable, the location is stunning and the food they serve is delicious. You will arrive as a stranger and leave as a friend. I enjoyed every minute I stayed there and will be back.

This place is simple and stunning. In front of the cottage is rolling meadows, trees grazing sheep, soaring birds and series of mountains ranges covered in green. The sunset... wow!!Behind the cottage is dramatically sweeping snow peaked mountains, pine trees and and the smell of fresh earth and flowers. And when you don’t think it can get better... it does. The cottage itself has everything we needed to relax and unwind. The attention to detail was something else. Arrived to a crackling fire, and a warm welcome from the owners. The kitchen, bathroom, bedroom all equipped with everything we needed. Our bed faced the mountains and in the morning, we woke to a dozen sheep feeding just outside our window.
Our only regret is that we didn’t stay more nights.
If you want to have the most memorable stay in New Zealand wether you’re on your vacation or you’re a Kiwi and need a small getaway, book it. I promise you, you’ll love this place. This was our 12th anniversary vacation and it couldn’t have been better.

This accomodation was our favourite place to stay in the whole of NZ, it’s beautiful and peaceful. It’s homely and got everything you need for a stay. The cabin we stayed in was spacious, had a great fireplace, verandah, cooking facilities and wonderful hosts. I’m going to go back and stay for a week because two days was not enough

The title “symply the best” refers to a song of Tina Turner. But here it is meant as a very good description for the B&B of Janine and Pete. Music is a very important subject in conversations, we loved it. But the main point is that they own the best B&B we visited in NZ. Genuine hospitality, good conversations, lovely meals and a room with THE view!

Hi. We stayed in The Barn in January (we were a party of 4)and it was $150. The rooms are more expensive than that but you get breakfast included. Check out their website for prices - they vary according to season. Just google wild earth lodge.(sorry - it won't let me put a link in) It definitely is an amazing spot and worth the visit.
