Without doubt one of the BEST hotels I have ever stayed at. upon arrival I was warmly welcomed by the staff and management, names exchanged and that formed the basis of our interaction for my week long stay. The staff was extremely friendly, the restaurant very flexible, top service and tasty meals. I appreciated their flexibility, whenever asked to do things that was not an offer. They approached it with same enthusiasm, professionalism and ease.(appreciate this!) Special thanks the Restaurant Staff, I had wonderful evenings here, which enhanced my experience there.

The tours arranged for me by Charlie was out of this world, water sports, snorkeling, rum and chocolate factory tours. The beaches, historical sites and exotic locations were visited as well. The real treasure was the the staff warm personalities and highly motivated . I truly enjoyed my stay. The scenery was beautiful and it was a pure magic in such a quiet and peaceful environment. Highly recommended.

Mount Hartman is undoubtedly the best place we have ever stayed in the islands (40+ years on traveling the islands). The food was 5 star every single day and the chef was extremely accommodating to dietary needs. Charlie & his staff are top notch and always one step ahead.

We stayed for 9 nights and every day was better than the last. Between fishing, snorkeling, scuba, lounging by the pool, coffee overlooking the bay, water sports and everything else, this place is amazing!

We travelled with 5 adults and 4 kids ranging from 9-14 years old. All of them had an absolute blast. We were concerned that there might not be enough to do for them, not being at a resort, but that was not the case at all. Charlie was an awesome boat captain taking the kids out every day. We went cliff jumping into waterfalls. Sunsets Cruises. Beach Volleyball, Spike Ball, Bags/Cornhole. You name it, they have it!

A few of us are PADI certified, but for those who weren't, Charlie organized to have a local dive shop come and do Discover Scuba in the pool and then we went diving the next day around Grenada.

In conclusion, Mount Hartman far exceeded our expectations! Highly recommend for families, multiple couple get-away, small weddings, etc.

I cannot say enough about Mount Hartman - Charlie, Shawn and the rest of the staff made the trip! The estate itself is wonderful - beautiful pool, delicious food, spacious rooms and so much fun! The most relaxing and fun family vacation we've had in a long time. Highly recommend!

It's hard to put your finger on the architectural style but it's kind of Bond villain meets The Hobbit meets Gaudi. I quite liked it but it may not be to everyone's taste. In any event, it has a really great view across the gorgeous Mount Hartman Bay replete with yachts.

We had a room at the top of the hotel which didn't have quite as good a view as there's a strange little grassy knoll between you and the bay, but it's still lovely and even better if you walk up the top of the knoll. We spotted an iguana wandering round it - he seemed a bit more shocked than we were. The only shame is that our outside table and chairs were just yards from next door's - I'd prefer a bit more privacy. That said, our neighbours didn't really hang out there, and in fact the hotel was virtually empty so it felt most of the time (except mealtimes, when people come from all over) like our own private resort.

The owner was very friendly and came over for a chat several times. Indeed everyone was friendly and the service was excellent throughout. The infinity pool is a wonderful place to hang out - it's got a great view, it's a good size and there's someone ready to service rum punches etc all day. Bliss. It was fun diving off the jetty/helipad too! There's also a little white sand beach but we were happier by the pool.

The food is very good quality including flying fish stew and plantain for breakfast, a local speciality apparently. Very tasty. Though it was a shame, given the price of the hotel, that only the continental breakfast was included in the price.

The room was where it dropped from a 5 to a 4 star review. It was huge and had a great walk-in rainshower and king size bed, but some of the furnishings (eg the toilet with broken seat) were a bit cheap, the tiles had seen better days, the sofas weren't very comfy and the wardrobes smelt musty. A real shame, but perhaps some of the other rooms are better.

Dear Tony, thank you for taking the time to submit a review for your short (3 night) stay with us. I remember watching you diving from our dock and helipad into the beautiful water of the Bay and our few chats. I do wish that you would have mentioned to me the problem with your toilet seat because whilst we do a thorough inspection before every check in accidents happen and we have a maintenance team on the property to fix anything immediately. The wardrobes in your suite were not musty but they are real hardwood (made by our carpenters onsite). Real hardwood does have a natural slight odour (personally I love the smell of real wood). You made your booking via an online travel agent and the booking was for our smallest and least expensive room on the basis of bed and continental breakfast only. We offer suites with private balcony and direct sea view and meal plans from bed and continental breakfast, to half board (which includes a fabulous 3 course dinner) through to All-inclusive. We always welcome direct bookings as this gives us a chance to find out what is most important to our guests (budget, views, size of suite, proximity to pool or beach). Finally, I am pleased to read that 'it felt like your private resort', that is exactly what we are aiming for. As we have 2 swimming pools, 2 beaches, acres of gardens for a maximum of 20 guests (and nearly every suite has a private balcony), there is always somewhere quiet and private for each couple. We were actually busy during your stay with us and I am delighted to hear that it did not feel like that. Best wishes, Nikki and the team.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel in September. I cannot disagree more with the reviews posted on TripAdvisor.

To start with, the hotel staff were over half an hour late picking us up for the airport. There were no apologies. We had a very long flight from the UK, and standing in the sun for this length of time was not a good start to our trip.

The rooms are not luxurious. They are rustic and in need of modernization. The bed in our room was far too high. It was a struggle for me to get up onto the bed. (There was no step.) I had to do a running jump, which usually resulted in banging my legs on the wooden frame and getting bruises as a result.

The air-con our room had 2 settings – on or off. There was no option to adjust the speed or the temperature. This meant either not being able to sleep because of the heat, or not being able to sleep because the air-con was too noisy.

Every morning, lunchtime and evening at around mealtime our room filled with a nauseating kitchen smell - primarily the smell of fat. On closer inspection we realized our room was in very close proximity to extractor fans from the kitchen. This was very unpleasant and forced us to leave the room at these times.

Our TV constantly didn’t work. It was a complicated system that we couldn’t work out. There was also a constant buzzing noise. The TV lacked a good selection of channels. We were staying whilst the Ryder Cup was on and none of them channels were showing it. We ended up just unplugging the whole system in order to get rid of the buzzing noise.

We understood the hotel wasn’t on the beach when we booked, yet we were comforted by the fact at that a shuttle service existed. Well, it turned out not to be a shuttle service. There was one service per day – it left at around 10.30am and came back at around 3.00pm. This restricted service didn’t suit us, as we didn’t want to be out during the hottest part of the day. We tried walking to a local beach on one day, but it was far too hot. Yes, one can get taxis, but they are just so expensive.

The hotel has two man-made sand areas that reach the water. Please note the these are not private beaches. The sand is rock hard - it hurts to be barefoot on it. The water is not suitable for swimming.

The hotel's website says that there is a "jacuzzi spa overlooking the bay". Well, we didn't see it and it wasn't shown to us when we were given our initial "tour" of the facilities.

One very bizarre thing about this hotel is that they only played two songs when we were there - 1. All Out Of Love by Air Supply, and 2. Send Me An Angel by Scorpions. (I had to Shazam the songs to find out the titles.) These two songs were played on a constant loop – both in the restaurant and at the pool area. Day or night – they were playing. At first we thought it was amusing – then it became infuriating. These songs are so depressing and just awful. To hear them over a hundred times was a nightmare.

The hotel seemed to be taking advantage of few residents to do some major structural work on the place. Our relaxing stay by the pool was frequently interrupted by the sound of drills and hammering. On the plus side it made it harder to hear All Out Of Love and Send Me An Angel!

There were off bits of maintenance equipment just left in the garden. A jerry can didn't move the whole time we were there.

We brought all these issues to the attention of the management who initially did nothing at all. The lady we dealt with didn't even bother to come and look at the issues. (Perhaps she was already aware of them from previous customers.) The next day she reluctantly agreed to change our room even though it was clear there were no other residents. We were to be given the room next door, which had been occupied for the first night of our stay. On closer inspection we realized this room had suffered a leak through the ceiling and was being dried out with industrial sized heating fans prior to our occupancy. Our suspicion is the other residents left the hotel after suffering a flood. It would have been very easy to offer us an alternative room, as the hotel was clearly empty.

After three nights we discussed our situation and decided we just had to leave the Hartman Bay ASAP as we had spent a lot of money on this hotel and were not enjoying it. Out complaints were being ignored by the hotel staff and we had no hope for things getting any better. When we left the hotel they tried to make us pay for food and drink we had despite having paid up front for half of the stay. We only stayed for three of the seven nights and eventually we agreed we would settle at that. They should have been offering a refund not asking for more money!

Given our experience, I thought the owners would have contacted us to discuss our complaints. Unfortunately we haven't heard from them.

I really don't understand why this hotel gets such good reviews. It has made me very wary of relying solely on TripAdvisor.

On a morning when we have just been told that our hotel has been recognised as one of the top 25 small hotels in the Caribbean and within the top 1% of hotels in the world, this is a very upsetting review to read. Whilst we get it right for the vast majority of our guests sometimes we get it wrong and sometimes we just cannot please some people. There was a lot of work going on in the hotel last summer to renovate the property and upgrade all of the suites and you were given a half price rate of US$225 per night to reflect that. At the time of your stay we were adding new balconies to the Rose and Jacuzzi Suites and so those rooms were not in use and there was some noise by the infinity pool whilst the work was done, (although I understand that you did not complain about this until you were checking out and trying to negotiate as to why you should not pay for any of your food and drink during your 3 night stay). You had asked to be collected from the airport at 15.30 and Peter arrived at that time. Your flight had apparently arrived at 15.00 but as you had not given us your flight number or airport of origin we could not have known that. We offer free private transfers for our guests from the airport but obviously need the flight number to be able to track early arrivals. I understand from the staff that the fact of your waiting at the airport was an issue that they were never able to recover from despite their efforts. It is the first time that we have heard a complaint about the bed being too high although you did complain about the room and asked to be upgraded. If the larger suites had been available we would have upgraded you but as already explained they were not in use. The Guest Services team moved you to another suite but not an upgraded suite. Our complimentary shuttle service has a published time of 10.30am departure to Grand Anse beach with return at 3.30pm. This timing is popular with our guests as it allows them to spend time on the beach and have lunch at a beach bar. However, we normally offer some flexibility and often the staff will make extra journeys. I am afraid that the staff felt that you were just completely unreasonable and that nothing they did would satisfy you. As well as having all of the original team of staff that worked at Mount Hartman Bay Estate when it was a private home we also have seasoned hospitality professionals on our team and they tell me that whatever we do we will not please some people. I can assure you that it was not within the capability of the staff to procure Ryder Cup coverage in Grenada for you! We have the fullest package of satellite TV channels that are available in Grenada, moreover we have high speed wi-fi throughout the resort so the coverage was fully available on the laptop. The 42" plasma TV in both of the suites that you occupied worked perfectly before you arrived, during your stay, and for all subsequent guests. It was a welcome relief to all when you let us know half way through your planned stay that you had found other cheaper accommodation. You checked out exactly half way through your holiday (having paid half in advance with the balance due) and yet refused to pay for any of the food and drink that you had consumed and this account is still outstanding. It is untrue to say that I have not written to you, I have written to the email address in Dusseldorf and have received no response, moreover I have spoken to other guests who were there at the same time as you and immediately after you and I am confident that your complaints were unfounded. The beach is raked every day and is soft white sand. You have posted 3 photographs and 2 do not need explanation, the third photograph is of the roof vent that goes down into the restaurant as part of an indoor waterfall. It is part of the architecture of the property to have a beautiful waterfall going through the restaurant into the reception area (not a flood). Since December 2013 when I purchased the hotel we have had hundreds of guests, every week I receive several thank you letters from guests and clearly Trip Advisor surveys have chosen us to be one of the top 25 small hotels in the Caribbean. We do sometimes get it wrong and just this week we had someone with a young toddler decide that our Beach House was not suitable for them, but the vast majority of time we get it right and as a property we are committed to excellence. We have decided that this summer we will close the property for 2 weeks in September to be able to do the noisy jobs so that this situation does not repeat. Meanwhile we will write off the food and drink charges for you despite the fact that we feel that your criticisms are unfair. I would like to end this response by thanking the team at Mount Hartman for all of their hard work and to urge them not to be dispirited by this review, remember the vast majority of guests really appreciate what we do. As a wise person in this industry recently told me: some people will arrive miserable, be miserable during their stay and leave miserable, no matter what you do for them! Nikki.

It is hard to even begin to describe this one-of-a-kind place in a coherent narrative, so I'l begin by describing a typical moment at 6 pm. I'm lightly sunburned after a day at the beach, and just changed into dinner clothes. I open the door of my room and step out onto a huge deck on top of the estate roof, with a 240 degree view of the bay, and the sailboats below. The sun is just starting to set, the birds are singing, the tree frogs are chirping, there is a light breeze, and the air smells of flowers and spice. No traffic noise. No other human in sight. I sit down on one of the patio chairs to take in the view, and the cell phone (included with the room) chirps. I answer it to hear the voice of Dean, the exquisite Maitre' D. He tells me he heard that we had returned, and thought we might like our usual before dinner drinks about now. Yep, he knew before we did, and just as my wife joined me on the deck, Dean appears with our drinks, and also tells us what the Chef is planning to cook for our dinner to "make sure it's all ok". Yes, it's ok. It's more than ok. It's perfect. It's more than perfect.

In a world of mass production and mass marketing and standardized travel "products", it is a welcome surprise when I encounter a unique experience. Mount Hartman Bay estate is a one-of-a-kind property- nothing like this place will ever exist anywhere else. As I spent time here and noticed all the details of the buildings and grounds, I saw more and more. And it's genius, in that inspired, location-specific way. There are stories attached to every part of this, but you'll have to let them unfold when you are there.

That's the way to enjoy Mount Hartman Bay Estate- to let it unfold. Grenada is a true Caribbean Island in all senses, and that comes with a certain laid-back air that does extend even to the high-end of MHBE. But that's just how it should be, a departure from the robotic American service style that is all about "features" and gimmicks. At Mount Hartman Bay Estate, the staff operates at a consistently high standard - even when (actually, for the bulk of our stay) we were the only guests. The service is detailed, smooth, and elegant and genuine-- but never obtrusive. They know just the time to allow private conversation, and just the time to add a personal touch, or have a nice conversation. Every single person I encountered was nothing but friendly and kind. I'm remembering Dean's detail - always presenting the plates "just right" and adjusting the Wedgewood settings. Then Suzanne's beautiful smile comes to mind, and our long conversations about practically everything. The soft-spoken Cheryl. The Austrian Peter who kept it all running with precision. The oh-not-so-scary "bad dog" guard dog in her matching Gaudi-esque dog house. And of course, the Welshman, who is the heart and soul of the place. It all comes together and works.

We dined at the restaurant almost every evening, and it was a excellent every night, without fail. We especially enjoyed letting the chef cook his specialties using the best ingredients on hand. One evening Trevor prepared a Caribbean dinner-- I can still taste the Callaloo Crab soup.

One evening a tragedy happened that required the kitchen to close for the night. In typical first-class fashion, they seamlessly planned a dinner at a nearby restaurant, and dropped us off and picked us up and covered all costs.

In any review, I guess there should be cons as well as pros, and it's truly hard to think of any, as it fit us so well. I guess the only thing that seemed a little out of place of the overall high-level was regarding the included breakfast. When you get there, you see that only "continental" breakfast is included with the room- and anything more has a "surcharge". To me, it seems like Grenada is a long way from the "continent"-- I've been at many places less fabulous than MHBE in the Caribbean that don't do that. It's a small thing, and wasn't really an issue, but maybe worth a mention.

The only other "con"-- and again, hardly a con, is to note that the waterfront on the property isn't the easiest to swim from. We snorkeled several times, but had to crawl out on rocks and enter from there. But it's still the Caribbean, and still stunning. For the full beach experience, you can get a cab for EC$40, or walk to get a bus for EC$2.50 (Easier than it sounds, just ask Dean) to Grand Anse. You'll probably always want a cab back because the hills are STEEP and it's HOT. Cabs in Grenada are notably more expensive than other Eastern Caribbean Islands, even though the rest of Grenada isn't particularly more expensive. Also maybe to note that a lot of the watersports equipment you may see mentioned on sites renting the estate as a villa is not currently available (charter yacht is not operational; the Seadoo boat, not working, etc.) I'm sure if I wanted, they would have arranged alternatives-- but I was happy to just enjoy living in a villa of rockstar dreams.

The room? Amazing. Custom. Stunning. Until you've woken up in a massive bed custom built into the wall and ceiling, with a sunrise overlooking a bay and nature reserve that's in a room with Biedermeier furniture on top of a Cave-shaped villa built into a hill, well, you haven't been to Mount Hartmann Bay yet.

I'm already planning to go back, so please book your visit in any week except the last week of April. We kind of got used to having the place to ourselves ;-)

I stayed at Mount Hartman Bay Estate Beach House for 10 days in Feb this year with my wife, two children & their partners. Wow ... I have to say, from the minute we were collected from the airport....to the time we were dropped back we had a most magical experience. The wow factor really started when we set eyes on our massive beach house with enormous rooms & private pool & beach. The 24hr service was second to none as was the daily menus and fabulous food & wines. Some of the best food we have ever had, every meal was a gastronomic experience. We had our own chef, maitre di,driver & maids. Nothing was too much trouble. I had wanted to find 'something special' for me & my family & The Beach House was certainly it ! From their boat trips, the island tours & the shopping experiences (for the girls) to the friendliness & helpfulness of the staff. I have stayed at various 5star locations around the world (One & Only's, Four Seasons, Sandals ). Everything that was on the label was in the tin. Can't wait for a return trip. It was amazing !!!!

Having read multiple tripadvisor reviews about how wonderful this hotel is, I had high expectations coming in, and I have to say they were fulfilled, and then some! The hotel itself is beautiful, as well as the surrounding bay, with plenty of wildlife to go see on kayaks in the morning. The service is excellent, and each staff member makes you feel like they are personally setting all their attention to you, as well as being incredibly friendly. I could give you individual examples of how each staff member impressed, but then the list would be too extensive. The rooms are very spacious and each of them provides incredible views wherever you look. The Cave house has consistently outstanding food, and whether it was dinner or drinks in the balcony, there has a magical feel to it. The owners are lovely people and offered a complimentary beach and a sailing trip on an authentic Grenadian boat that we were fortunate enough to view a beautiful sunset while out at sea. On top of this they organised a trip to the Seven Sister's waterfalls which was a real adventure, as well as organised a speed boat trip for us. And when feeling practically drained and wanted to relax, lying by the beach on the hammock or relaxing in the sublime infinity pool by the pool bar was pure bliss. All in all the perfect holiday.

Dear Osman, thank you very much for your review and for your willingness, whilst with us, to try some of the 'Complimentary Grenada experiences' that we are experimenting with. I hadn't realised quite how much we had packed into your 2 weeks with us! Your feedback was very valuable thank you. The Carriacou sloop sunset cruise proves ever popular but we are saving the 'seven sisters waterfall climb' for our very adventurous guests. Of course everyone enjoys taking a cooler of drinks with our wonderful barman together with canapes to the different beaches. With over 50 white sand beaches in Grenada there is plenty of scope with that 'experience'. Thank you again and we hope to see you back. Kind regards, Nikki and the team.

This was like having your own staffed private villa. Admittedly we were there in low season so it was quiet, but it seemed as if you had your own dedicated staff. The Bay is wonderful and the views from the room (we stayed in the Rose suite) were awesome. Good food in the restaurant and served by such friendly staff. The owners could not do enough for you, even organising a sunset sailing trip for all guests one evening. On our last night we had dinner on the beach which was very special. we stayed 7 nights and could have stayed for ever. We absolutely loved our time and will be back!

Dear Julian, thank you very much for taking the time to write a review for us. We very much enjoyed having you both stay with us and we look forward to seeing you again. Thank you for mentioning the sailing trip that we arranged for our guests, the following week we arranged a fishing trip which was also a great success. As you know we like to offer our guests an opportunity to see Grenada and experience some of the things that as a family we love to do, it also provides revenue to some of the local businesses that we support. As you rightly say you were with us in the 'low season', although of course the weather on the southern peninsula where we are located was great! As I mentioned to you during your stay we were actually full for 2 of your 7 nights and yet it didn't feel busy to you at all so that is exactly what we are aiming for. In having 2 beaches, 2 pools, 5 acres of gardens and most suites with private balconies everyone can find their own 'private' spot. Our staff to guest ratio is also greater than 1:1. We all miss you and send you our best wishes and thank you from all of us for your review. Kind regards, Nikki.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week-long stay here, but I can see that it wouldn't be for everyone. What we loved:
--The privacy: Sure, it wouldn't be terrible if the place was a teensy bit more lively, but I doubt at another resort we'd have the infinity pool and ocean views all to ourselves. It was peaceful and relaxing and the staff never intruded. We knew where to find someone if we wanted something, but it was nice to feel like we had this private house to ourselves without feeling like someone was lurking in the background waiting for us to need something.
--The views: The hotel is set into the cliffs overlooking the bay and the views are simply spectacular. The only downsides: it doesn't get the sunset and it's windy—but it's also pretty hot and humid, so the wind is needed.
--The pool: Gorgeous and a decent size. It was little bit chilly, which we always thought was funny given how warm the air was. We spent most of our time here because the "beach" area wasn't as nice. The ocean was a little bit weedy in front of the property and the actual sand was eroded in places. I know they're working hard on sprucing the place up—rooms, too—and I have no doubt that they will be cleaning this part up soon.
--The staff: As others have mentioned, everyone who works at the hotel is incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. The new manager, David, helped us set up cabs, a snorkeling trip and weighed in on day trips. Dean, the restaurant manager, also couldn't have been nicer or more helpful.
--The food: Breakfast was always delicious—fresh fruit, coffee, cereal. Dinner was expensive (though in line with everywhere else on the island) and the menu didn't change, but they were willing to accommodate special requests and always had good fish. Given that it was a cab ride to go anywhere else for dinner—and that the island doesn't actually have that many restaurants—we opted for dinner here every night but one.

The big downside, of course, to being in such a remote location, is that you either had to rent a car or hire a cab (not cheap!) to go explore the island. We did both, but after one long day in the rental car—managing to get lost about 4 times despite there only being one main road— we decided it was way less stressful to hire Dave (the hotel's prime cab driver) to take us places. The nice thing about Grenada is that the island's beaches are public, so we spent time at both Magazine beach and Grande Anse where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. Highly recommend checking out both. But for an even easier afternoon excursion, check out the Calabash hotel, which sits on a different bay from the Mt. Hartman. We walked over there on two different days. Because they weren't super busy, they let us use their beach chairs free of charge. And they have a great outdoor restaurant on the beach. But we were happy to come back to the Mt. Hartman every night!

Prickly Bay Waterside is less than half a mile from us and the restaurants at the Calabash are just over half a mile. As others have said people do not walk around very much in Grenada, mostly due to the heat! We are always happy to drive guests to other restaurants and collect them for a small charge.
