Our room was clean, quiet, and good value for money. All the fittings were new or recently fitted and everything worked. We enjoyed a very comfortable night and the amenities were very close by. The shower has the most amazing pressure... very worth the experience. Great meal nearby at the Fisherman's Table watching the sunset across the South Island - as recommended by the staff at the Holiday Park. Second time I've stayed and would stay again.

When we arrived the place was packed and there was nowhere near enough fridges or freezer space for the number of visitors. We resorted to bags of ice in a chilly bin for a few days until we got some fridge space. The only full size freezer in the whole place was then locked off when the number of campers thinned out leaving only a couple of tiny freezers in one kitchen and none in the other one.
Agree with other reviews some of the staff are quite rude, not exactly customer friendly. We still had a good time but definitely room for improvement.

Stay for two nights for the tent site, the facilities were great. Clean bathrooms and toilets, with nice and clean kitchens with covered outdoor seating with BBQ things. A Very quiet place at night. Each tent site has some bush border to keep privacy better. Location is approx 1.5km from Paekakariki Train Station to Wellington. The great thing is this site is next to the huge Queen Elizabeth Reserve, the reserve is up to the north limit at MacKay Crossing, as well as bordered by the sea, facing west to see the great sunset on the horizon.

Staff are unfriendly, rude and unhelpful. The have eftpos is for check in only and they will make you use cash for buying ice and other things from the office (probably avoiding tax imo) there are no freezers so you will need to purchase ice from the office for $5 a bag or have other arrangements. Visitors are not allowed and only one vehicle per site is allowed to enter the camp. Showers work for 4 mins then there is a 4 min delay before the next person can shower being really inconvenient for families or during busy periods. Overall the facilities are nice but dated and maintenance is not kept up very well. We felt micromanaged in our stay and the whole experience is the worst we have experienced in 10+ camp grounds around NZ. I would not recommend this camp ground to anyone and will not be returning.

This is a nice place, sadly let down with the poor reception, and cleanliness of the toilets.
We arrived there, and had to wait while one of the regular campers, argued with three of the staff about putting two tents on one camp site. It took awhile, and we were standing there for at least 5 minutes before even being greeted. It took 3 people to deal with this camper. When that camper went, 2 of the staff members also left, and so we were left with a man, who was slightly incapacitated because of an arm injury, and was limited with what he could write/type.
He checked our booking and gave us a map of where our site was. He did not show us where the toilets, kitchen etc were we had to find that our self.
Why on earth could not one of these 3 deal with us at the same time as this other camper, they were all starring at the computer screen, and arguing among themselves how to deal with "Mrs regular"
While using the toilet, you noticed cob webs, and also if you look on the bowl, on the outside, it had not been wiped clean for days. EWW.

We were also told too park in the most hardest place ever for a large campervan, trying to back in between 2 trees, and not hit the hedge or car of the tent in front of us (from the other site). We actually ended up taking the site next to us which was unoccupied, after nearly taking the wing mirrors off our camper. There was plenty of space for us, and other campers, so why randomly give us the most awkward one (?)

It is such a lovely spot, a bit noisy with motorway traffic, and the eels were fascinating to see. But sadly the welcome needs a lot to be desired.

Not at all a pleasant stay .
Managers grumpy and not at all hospitable
Bad buzz at this place.
Such a wonderful location spoilt by energy of the management ,as a previous review stated they need retraining or let some else run the place who's heart is in the work .
Ask other camp sites and around the town ,the same story ,grumpy mangers
Thousands of dollars must be lost in revenue .
Who wants to pay money to be treated so bad .
Come on owners sort this magnificent place out ,before the boarders open and overseas quests have to be subjected to this nonsence .

Great spot. Dated facilities but clean enough with good sized sites which are private.
4 mins showers is ridiculous in the modern world and for the rates charged.

Let down by grumpy staff throughout the camp. Not sure if they need training or have been in the game too long and can't be bothered.

I'd seen some grumpy reviews from previous guests, but we needed somewhere to stay as it was hard to drive our campervan in gale force winds, so we took our chances.
I encountered only lovely, welcoming reception staff.
The gardens are immaculate.
The campervan sites are large and separated by beautifully maintained hedges (I think ours is feijoa?)
There is a beautiful stream, crystal clear water, running through the property, and home to a large family of beautiful eels.
You can hear the surf foaring on the nearby beach.
The toilets and showers are in an old building, but appear to have been recently renovated.
The kitchen is simple but large, with plenty of utensils as well.
This is my favorite of all the places we have stopped in the last 3 weeks.

We were travelling through Paekakariki and were invited by friends camping to share a BBQ before travelling on. We were totally unprepared for a request for $20 each just to step foot in the camp. We said we would check with our friends as to what was happening. After this the manager then became very vindictive, haranging a small chd about a dog off the lead, and 2 abusive phone calls to our friend. For her sake we paid up as we didn't want her involved..
This is the most unfriendly staff we have met. We were simply passing through and the manager made it extremely unpleasant for all concerned.

We stayed on a chilly winters night and in order to keep the room vaguely warm enough for kids to sleep in (like over 14 degrees) I had to get up 6 times to turn the heater back on. Basically the tiny fan heater on a 30min timer is ineffective for heating the cabins in winter. The owners expected us to sleep with the electric blanket on which I don't believe is considered safe. Other than that the cabins are clean & well stocked.
