Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were 4 tired and hungry horse riders and were grateful for the best garlic steak and chips ( with a real salad) we had eaten in a long time. It was quick and we enjoyed eating it beside the fire.
There are interesting collectables behind the bar and the publicans were friendly and welcoming.

We stayed for 2 nights over New Year. With 2 adults and tweens the queen rooms were absolutely ideal. The en-suite rooms are simple and spotlessly clean - the bathrooms are new with loads of space.

Karen and Gary are friendly, accommodating hosts who made us feel at home. The White Horse Hotel is great Central Otago hospitality at its best.

I have never had the pleasure of staying here, but I have had the pleasure of experiencing Karen and Gary's fine hospitality. I was raised in Becks and over last xmas came back to get married in the area. Alot of our guests stayed there and Karen and Gary couldn't have done enough for them. Lastly I must mention Karen also catered for our pre wedding function and the food was delicious, don't give it a second thought to call in and visit these lovely people :-)

We were completing the Otago Rail Trail and were looking for somewhere to eat on our night stay over in Lauder. After going to the Lauder Hotel, where it seemed impossible to get food, we contacted Karen at the Beck Pub. She picked us up and dropped us off which was helpful with our tired legs and the chance to have a couple of drinks. We heard about the local history and got to have a look around the antique shop. Our meal was excellent and the cod was amazing. We even had Shortland Street on the telly !! All around a great experience and definitely the place to eat when in the area.

It's become a family tradition to take a trip here when we are in Central Otago just to have some bowl s of their garlic butter fries. You have to try them. As always the publican has time to have a good yarn to you, as well.

Last time we visited it was just a pub but now it is part of an antique shop called The Glory Box. I must say the quality stock was all reasonably priced. Had a nice wander around. We had lunch earlier up the road at St Bathans so no need to eat here today.

We recently had our wedding at the Community Hall in Becks. Karen and Gary ran the bar simply and efficiently, made delicious salads for the after match BBQ and also managed to to take great care of our guests who stated at the pub. We would not hesitate to recommend them for catering situations such as ours, or to just stop by for a pint and a meal when passing through Becks.

Having visited the White Horse Hotel a number of times over the last month, we simply can't say enough good things about the place, the people or the food.
Slightly off the beaten tourist track, Beck's White Horse Hotel is the real deal - the place the locals call in to catch up on the gossip over a cold brew or two. Karen's food is sensational! Her secret batter makes for the best blue cod in Central Otago.
Despite Gary's bad jokes it's well worth relaxing for an hour or two in front of the fire. It's great to be able to take family and friends along and know they're going to enjoy themselves.

When in Central Otago we often take a side trip up to the White Horse Hotel in Becks for an evening meal. Gary and Karen are very hospitable hosts and nothing is too much of a problem for them. We especially like Karen's blue cod meal which is consistently good and Gary keeps the beer at a perfect cold temperature for the hot days in this part of the country - when in Becks try the Becks on tap! A lovely place to call in to if you are in Central.

It was a great idea getting the complimentary pick up from Lauder and staying at the White Horse Hotel a few minutes away in Becks, population 4. Hosts Grant and Karen went out of their way to make us welcome. From Becks it is a worth a trip to the old goldmining towns of St Bathans and Cambrian. It was great being in a country hotel and seeing the local farmers call in for a beer. Thanks so much.
