Our holiday park accommodation is located along Ohope Beach, with 11 kilometres of unbroken golden sand beach and spectacular views of White Island (Whakaari) and Whale Island (Moutohorā). Whakatane has the current TOP Sunshine Hours and has won 5 out of the last six years! Ohope Beach is also consistently voted as New Zealands best beach as well as one of the top beaches worldwide and don't forget that Whakatane is the Kiwi Capital of the world! Ohope Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park is a family orientated holiday park close to Whakatane, which offers options suitable for every budget. We booked 4 non-powered sites and thoroughly enjoyed the more quieter area we were placed. Our family is already keen to re-book for next year now that we are a little bit more savey. Kitchen facilities and Showers are excellent and the onsite shop, coffee and bakeries make it totally unnecessary to leave the camping ground. Even though it is crowded (and I don't like crowds) in the high peek season the people there are very helpful and friendly which made us feel right at home very quickly.

moana2020 crowds are not for everyone I agree. However, as you stated there are sections of the park that you can escape into you own little world and have an amazing experience such as yours. With fresh berry ice creams, coffee, cafe with delicious burgers and chips what more does one need. We look forward to seeing you soon as summer rolls round real fast in this neck of the woods.

We stayed in one of the standard cabins with three young children, and upon arrival the cabin was spotless and the small kitchen well-resourced. The staff were helpful and very friendly. There is a sense of community and trust in the camp site which made us feel like part of a big family. The pool, playground and other facilities were immaculately clean and always open. We will be back every year.

nic0leb2020, what a delight to read your review. Our Standard Cabins are one of our least expensive options which makes it very affordable, especially if you are wanting to sleep 10 people. Although you still have to share the communal facilities for showering it's only 20 paces away. Great that you had such a lovely time, see you again soon hopefully.

We stayed three nights at the camp ground and the kids loved the heated pool and 2 big waterslides plus it's only a few meters directly to the beach (no road in between). Of the three facility blocks only two were open so can't say much about the 3rd but the ones we used were clearly very new. Cleaning crews were there at least twice a day and rubbish bins also get emptied at least twice a day.
It wasn't crowded at this time of the year (October, maybe 20% occpancy) so can't say how it holds up during peak season when it's full but from what I've seen it should be fine.

Peak season it is very busy, but we increase staffing by around 200%, to deal with the influx of holidayers. We are glad you thought the park was in order and value for money. I was excited to stay here with my kids in a motorhome. Check in was smooth receptionist friendly. Then we went to enter the camp through the key pad entry gate, this gate is a one way in and one way out. I’m trying to negotiate coming through the gate with 6 vehicles lining up to exit the gate with another 6 behind me also trying to enter the one way gate In addition to what felt like a thousand little kids flying past on their bikes. This system did not seem practical or safe. We decided to check out at 6am to avoid this situation again it was terrible.
We finally found our way to out marked power site with the motorhome which is situated along a series of one way marked roads. I could not drive into this as there was no space to do so with campers vehicles parked along the sites right up to the road. I was able to reverse in after letting traffics behind me squeeze past, only to find that all the trees on the marked are were so low I couldn’t actually fit the motorhome in to the space. The guy in the opposite site stated this happens every year to him and had come prepared with tree trimmers and kindly cut the brunches back for me.
The facilities seemed to only be cleaned once a day and were constantly filthy, it seemed everyone had gastro. The pool was closed most of our stay do to code brown’s. The takeaway on the campsite was run by a few teens that were clearly more interested in each other than the food and we got serve cold soggy burgers and chips, I ordered 3x burger combos and some chicken nuggets for about $50 and the quality was below average. Customer service was non existent. The only time the staff seemed interested was at check in. The location of the site is beautiful and is clearly what sells this, access to the beach is close and the kids enjoyed themselveS meeting new kids and playing basket ball and volley ball. The activities were endless but extremely crowded considering NZ was in the orange zone, vaccine passes were checked on arrival, but no further public health measure were in place pass that. No masks were being worn in communal close space areas, no limits on numbers in shared spaces no distancing.

Be warned this is a very large and busy park at this time of year. The cafe on-site does coffee and $10 evening meals eg nuggets and chips + drink which I thought was reasonable but be warned you may have to wait 30-40minutes for it at peak mealtimes.
Also big waits for coffee in the morning.
The new facilities in the center of the park are modern and almost resort like however, the older blocks are very tired and in need of an up-grade. The kitchen in those blocks are very small and not a great design which makes it almost a bit awkward to shimmy past people to get to a sink etc.
I had to question the dump station right in the middle of the park opposite the cafe and seating area? Felt a bit embarrassed emptying our toilet waste in such a busy public area, waste dumps are normally tucked away in the less busy areas of a park.
The pool is great but very small and super busy with two slides although there is a small separate area for smaller kids. The pool is pretty chilly 🥶 but ok on a super hot day.
The beach is lovely but not enough of an attraction to bring us back as we prefer the smaller parks, this one felt like a tent city.
Must say the staff are helpful and quick to respond as we had overhanging branches on our site which kept us awake in a windy night scrapping the top of the campervan roof. The grounds staff came and trimmed them back. They also do a rubbish collection if you leave it at the edge of your site which I had never come across before.

Shona21 your 3 stars is an interesting read. Let me shed a little light on some of the points raised. With 2000 people in the park we are much like a small coastal town. To order from the local fish and chip shops, pizza places etc.. you'll find it normal at this time of the year to wait for upto 1 hr in places therefore 30-40min wait for our cafe where you can pop back to your tent and have a glass of wine and wonder back isn't the end of the world. With 2 baristas working one machine coffees tend to take roughly 2 mins to make, orders take 30 secs multiply this by 20 and have 20 coffee orders which takes 40 mins to make. When you are on holiday you need to relax ,slow down and take things as they come. For the first year ever, we heated our pool, it sat around 26 degrees all day long, to say this is cold hmmm... maybe you should think about not swimming at all or look at holidaying in Fiji where the water is 28 degrees. Yes our dump station isn't in the ideal spot. However, as the infrastructure has grown ,our sewer lines haven't moved. Therefore, without a major re plumbing of the entire park, we have tried to make it as user friendly as possible. Our beach is voted New Zealand's most loved beach. We hope you find peace and happiness in another park somewhere around New Zealand, as this isn't the park for you.

Really enjoyed the atmosphere and buzz. It was very busy and we found the amenities included all the things we needed and were cleaned regularly, we enjoyed the beach and the pool. Only complaint or downer was when the neighbouring site left their rubbish on out tent site when they left. Thanks you for providing a fantastic service!

Cheers jamnette321 for a great 5 Stars. We can be very busy right up until Waitangi Weekend with 1500 people. However, after that we drop to 200 people where there is plenty of space, so much so that it feels like you have the park to yourself. We look forward to your return soon.

We booked for a weekend in a glamping tent which promised a “quality” queen sized bed. It was an air bed, and not a great one at that. So with a very bad sleep behind us the bad weather made sure we left our weekend away a day early and out of pocket for a night. The other frustrating thing is the lack of pleasantness in the office and lack of flexibility. With a stormy weekend forecast I tried to cancel our weekend for a refund and was told we would have to forfeit a full nights cost ($185 approx). Then we asked if we could change the dates instead, but I was told it wasn’t likely without forfeiting a night ($185) but if I put what I wanted in writing it may be considered by management. So we decided to risk it and ended up staying 1 night and then leaving early without a refund for the second night.
Positives ... clean and tidy campground, well stocked tent, great pool and slides. May come back but not in a glamping tent and would be very careful about when we booked because of the lack of flexibility in changing dates. We have stayed at other Top 10 campgrounds who have been far friendlier and more accomodating.

Having been regular campers for over ten years at this gorgeous campground, we arrived with our usual expectations of cleanliness to be very let down! So much so it impacted our holiday, two of our group contacting the Gastro. We are not interested in frills like 'pizza ovens and sauna's'. Sort our the basics. New Management can only improve on this area and with a 50% price hike for next year we have high expectations. You may need to limit the number of people in the NY period as facilities clearly could not cope! Being a Top Ten comes with expectations and standards, you are letting your brand down.

We had a fantastic time at Ohope Holiday park. We were in an unpowered site with 2 other families and a total of 5 kids under 9.
The highlights were:
* the pool! My 6 year old is still raving about it
* proximity to an amazing beach
* the communal facilities near reception (unfortunately not the ones near us)
* Kids activities
The Lowlights:
* Large groups of teens/young people over New Years fighting outside the toilet and going against the family feel of the holiday park
* not enough toilets, showers or kitchens.
* the kitchen block closest to us (unpowered site 132) was tiny and had hardly any facilities. Luckily we had a cooker and BBQ so cooked at our site but often had to wait 20mins plus to use one of the only 2 sinks for washing up.
* The toilets could have been cleaner over NYE. There was ALWAYS a line for them no matter what time you went so I suspect the cleaners couldn't keep up.
Would definitely go ahead but I would avoid the peak NYE times as I feel there were too many people there for the park to cope with and lots of groups that didn't fit the family environment advertised.

Safe for children, family focused, top facilities, very clean and a great place to spend time together. There are regular organised activities for kids of all ages, there’s a pool to suit the little ones as well as the big ones. The beach is perfect for young ones as the water remains waist deep for some distance, beach is patrolled for surf lifesavers all day. Food from the cafe is very reasonable with great service
