Had a great week in the beach house. Toni at the hotel is the ultimate ringmaster. Catering for groups large and small for a wide variety of trips and things to do, people changing their minds, harsh weather conditions, pilots unavailable, etc etc. We we ate very well, the cod is devine and the chef helped us several times when we arrived after meal times. Great attitude by the staff and helpful. Given the conditions they can't do better. 11 out of 10 is my rating. The beds are so comfy and fully adjustable electronically.

Great hospitality, comfy beds, fantastic view over the harbour from our room which was on the top floor, and lots of fabulous food and drinks available. We were a group of 10 adults there on a walking holiday for a week and had a wonderful time around the island. Sadly were were unable to travel to Pitt Island due to poor weather but we filled in the extra days exploring the main island.

12 of us mainland NZrs plus our guide Roni made our way to Chatham Island and stayed 5 nights in the Forget Me Not suites 6-11 April 2022. They are 5 star in my opinion. Very clean and well serviced, thanks to the suite's housekeeper, Lizzy. The bed and pillow and bedding and other linen is top class and all so comfy. The two armchairs and large footstool were very stylish and relaxing after a long day touring- handy to read your book or have a snooze or watch the large Sky TV. There is also a small table with two very cozy chairs. The units are self service, so if you wanted to cook while you were there, it is possible, with items such as all required utensils, oil, flour and sugar, etc being provided, with a microwave, 2 induction elements and a full size fridge and freezer. There is a heating system in place, even underfloor heating in the bathroom- the alternative being a manual fan heater. The bathroom is very plush with all fittings in black and a wonderful glassy-looking tile that dries in no time after you emerge from the rain shower and admire yourself in the well lit mirror Three small windows with security stays enables you to get an air flow through the unit. We had complimentary scroggin mix and muesli and chocolate bars and small biscuit packages provided and it was quite fun finding them hidden away in different places. Breakfast is included and is a short walk down the hill at Hotel Chatham's and was plentiful, with a good variety. The only issue most of us had was with the wi-fi. However we knew we were lucky to have the service, as it has only started recently, so it's early days. Some days the service was intermittent and the signal not always very strong, but it was free and we were out most of the time anyway, enjoying the amazing island. Thanks to Toni and staff for a delightful stay. I highly recommend these two year old units.

Their website is so out of date which show pictures of rental cars they don’t have. Made a booking for a two bedroom beach house only to find it was actually one bedroom….they had changed the name of it. Went to have evening meal there on Sunday only to be told it was buffet….not mentioned on web site. It took one month to answer an email but the worst was yet to come. We pre ordered a crayfish meal at $80 each giving three days notice. We watched the manger write it into the hotel diary. We turned up on the night excited to be having crayfish for dinner only to be told that kitchen staff were not told about our meal so there would be no crayfish. I just wanted to walk out but my partner said we would choose something off the evening menu. Something simple as fish and chips. We sat down and another couple who we had met before arrived. They made their order and we got talking. All of a sudden their meal arrived. Where was ours? I mentioned it to one of the waitresses who could give no answer. The other couple had finished their meal and were ready to leave. So was I and as I walked out the waitress said our meal was coming. I left the building but my partner waited and turned up to the car with our meal in a cardboard box…..salad included. You can imagine what it was like when we got home and our $64 fish and chips meal went straight into the fire. This place is NOT a restaurant but nothing short of a school tuck shop. We could hear everything like the immature like waitresses like we’re talking like out loud like. The table set up was two napkins set beside but the cutlery just thrown into the middle of the table for us to set up. There are no individual tables just long rows akin to boarding school. The only compensation they were prepared to offer was an $8 bottle of beer. I am so glad we did not stay there.

From the moment you arrive you are treated like old friends - Toni and her crew are amazing - full of great stories and lots of laughs ! Food is delicious and Wayne (chef) even cooked our crayfish for us - Toni organizes trips to Pitt, fishing excursions and can tell you all the special places to visit, including her mum and dad’s place Admiral Garden - highly recommend this very special part of the world - we felt like we were home ❤️

Poor Reception Staff couldn't find my Booking so they placed me in a temporary Room for 2 nights whilst they attempted to "track" the Owner/Operator down?! This was 'temporary' accommodation arrangement and was overseen by the Night Duty Manager at the time, who had been in charge of the Reception Staff. I went on a Tour of the Island on the 2nd day arranged by a Guide from the Hotel, which was enjoyable - there were 4 of us in total. I went back to check with Reception if they were moving me that day and Toni the Owner/Operator jumped on me declaring she was sending me "back to Wellington the next morning!" BUT NO REASON GIVEN!! IF YOU GO THERE, BEWARE, SHE IS VERY UNSTABLE AND I FEEL FOR HER STAFF - THEY LIVE IN FEAR OF THEIR JOBS AND THEIR LIVES. ( LAST SUMMER THERE WERE AT THE VERY LEAST 2 SUICIDES ON CHATHAM IS. - SHE HAS NO SENSE OF COMPASSION OR EMPATHY TOWARDS ANYBODY, NOT HER STAFF AND NOT HER CUSTOMERS, SO BE VERY VERY CAREFUL...

I found it was difficult to communicate with management. After booking online I did not get confirmation despite reminders to the website address. .I arrived on the dates I had booked but was never sure that I was expected. However room upstairs although expensive was lovely with an amazing view. The office was not staffed consistently so hard to get up to date and reliable information.Shout out to the cleaning staff who were cheerful and efficient. Some of the restaurant staff and the woman handling the checkout could be abrupt and offhand to the guests.

Our family of four ended up staying at the Hotel after our plane from Pitt Island was delayed and we missed our flight home to NZ. Toni (the manager), Lil and their team were amazing. The hotel was full so Toni gave up her own quarters for us for the night until they could move us into family-suitable accommodation the next day, they sorted us for a car, laundry, meals, airport collect etc. We stayed in the forget-me-not suites which were tidy and functional for those wanting self-contained accommodation handy to local amenities. The hotel offers alternative types of accommodation depending on priorities/budget. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We were so grateful for their help and care, which turned a tricky situation into the best outcome for us!

Rung up to find out availabilty of four different options of properties that Hotel Chathams have that suited me (they have basically 80% of the market over there sown up) that I researched for accommodation and the owner didn't give me the chance to ask or chose which I would prefer, she just said you're staying in this one. I said that doesn't suit me (I said didn't want shared facilities) she said too bad this is what I'm booking for you. I replied that I don't like to be told where I HAVE to stay and she bluntly said "well go somewhere else then!" The only other real options on the Chathams are a upmarket lodge or B&B which is really aren't my style - prefer the classic motel type place with kitchenette and self contained facilities. Real shame because I've cancelled my trip there now and the locals and tour operaters will miss out on $3000+ tourist spend because of the attitude of the owner of this place.
