If you want to get off the beaten path, and see New Zealand in its pure beauty and splendor, a night here is a MUST! Only 30 minutes from Twizel or Omarama, Lake Ohau can't be seen off the main road - keeping punters away! You drive 10 minutes through tussock country to go over a rise and there it opens up in front of you....absolutely stunning! The lodge is rustic kiwi. No phones, clocks or tv's in the rooms - with a view like that, who needs them? The beds are very comfortable; room and bathroom very clean. They provide dinner, bed and breakfast in the tariff. The meal is three courses, no choice although they do cater for special diets. The food is beautiful, some of the best in New Zealand. High country, hearty fare. Home made bread. Often, local salmon. Desserts to die

This hotel is basic, however it has the most beautiful views you will ever see. It is set on the edge of Lake Ohau and surrounded by beautiful snow capped mountains. They have various standards of accommodation but nothing more than about 3 stars. The dinning room and lounge area are cosy. The staff were friendly and the food okay.

Absolutely loved my stay here, Which was part of an organised contiki tour, and definitely one of the top nights i had on tour. I cannot praise the staff enough, nothing was too much for them, right down to the barman collecting extra blankets for the group members who got a little over their limit and chose to spend the night passed out on the couch in the games room. The view from the hottub over the lake was stunning, and was complimented by the dips in the lake (only for the crazy/brave!) (I've added swimming pool to amenities for this reason) only one ting i would point out - as this is a contiki stop, there would regularly be rowdy teens partying here. great if your in the age bracket, but maybe not so flash for those more mature persons. All in all, i can't wait till i

We stayed here for a night near the end of a tour of New Zealand. It is in a pretty isolated location, alongside Lake Ohau, nearest town Twizel and with views towards Mt Cook. There are various categories of accommodation, but don't expect luxury - the emphasis is on plain and simply furnished rooms - all en suite - but what it lacks in mod-cons and style, it makes up for it in terms of friendliness and scenery on its doorstep. We dined both in the evening and breakfast. With no other choices anywhere nearby, it's a bit of a captive audience, choices in the evening were limited but adequate. Breakfast was better, with cooked breakfast made and served to order, with copious tea, coffee and toast. There is also a reasonably priced bar and some old fashioned games (pool,
