Detailed Reviews
This hotel has seen better days. The facilities seem very worn down: stained carpets and furniture, mold in the showers, bath robes that have been worn for too long, etc.
Signage is very poor too. The parking space is just randomly parked cars between the trees behind the hotel. Accessing the hotel for there is through a bar and no sign pointing to the ‘reception’ is to be found.
The architecture is very quirky which creates plenty of small corners or uneven steps that are not well marked. Just as an example, the rooms are located on an ascending spiral (cute) and exiting the elevator on every floor there’s a small step that isnt straight (following the curve of the building). It is hard to see and I saw at least a couple of senior passengers tripping over it.
Some of the staff were not very accomodating (refused to prepare a milk+banana drink cause it wasn’t listed as a juice) and the food (except from breakfast) was very underwhelming. Young arriving we had a chicken sandwich (we were starving) at the bar and it was simply awful.
The open pool was closed, the heated one had flies floating every time we went in; the bar at the pool and the one in the 5th floor were permanently closed. The rooftop lookout is a hazard, the wooden deck has missing bits and lose pieces of wood. Also we saw nails sticking up. Again, not a safe place.
The natural surroundings do not disappoint: Plenty of hikes through dense forests, waterfalls, a deer farm, and so on. And just listening to the sounds of the forest is a soothing experience.
Bottom line, for rooms that are USD 300+, it is disappointing and I would not return.

Excellent experience as a couple. We stayed 4 nights in Nothofagus, in a room with a view of the forest, a 3-course restaurant and a quiet hot water spa, really very good.
We did guided and self-guided excursions, all very well signposted in the middle of nature. The Canopy XL 100% recommended.
Nature with its forests is impressive.
I recommend half board because full board is a lot and sometimes you bump into the activities

Excellent place to have full contact with nature. Well-kept forests and trails, very well-trained staff attentive to any requirement. The food service, excellent. A unique menu that incorporates the best of local products.

Perfect example of "Overpromise, underdeliver". The worst dinner buffet ever, the breakfast buffet saved me putting it at 1 star. For US$500 for 2 rooms I can think of a list of 50 places where it would have been more worthwhile to spend our money. The Spa is a farce, with the pools being hot pools of germs, no lap pools for adults, so you are either in a hot tub or wet your feet in the shallow kids pool. The shellacked wood is too much, so much potential creating a real tree house effect without clunky shiny tree trunks and uncomfortable furniture. Plus it's super loud, as the atrium style build magnifies the noise, so sleep did not come til well after midnight. Great pity as it has such potential !

The presentation and the forest atmosphere are very nice, the hotel is very nice, unfortunately they have bad service, from the reception you carry your suitcases yourself, they even charge you for water and there are ridiculous schedules for everything, we went in for lunch (you have you have to reserve an hour in advance) and they only serve from 1 to 3pm, we entered the restaurant at 2:15pm, they took until 3pm to serve us lunch and oh surprise, since it was already 3pm we couldn't order coffee, desserts, or another juice nothing! They literally told us to go eat the desserts at the cafeteria that is suddenly open! Plop!
In this lunch we only ordered 4 main dishes and 4 juices and it cost us 140 dollars, an excessive amount for what we ordered. Not to mention that they didn't let us order coffee or dessert.
Breakfast the next day was quite good, it was a buffet breakfast, it came included in our lodging rate, the hours are always short and uncomfortable since it is from 8 to 10am, if you want to go out to the portals before eight you have to go with an empty stomach, and if you fall asleep you don't go into the dining room, at night with dinner it's the same, only two hours from 7pm to 9pm.
Nice hotel but it should greatly improve guest service, extend the hours to make it really worth the expense, since it is a fairly expensive place for what it offers.

The hotel is a dream!! Exactly as we see in the photos. Incredible service, wonderful receptionists, spectacular room, everything very clean and organized. Surreal SPA, heated pool, massages are paid separately. The best hotel breakfast I've ever seen in my life!! Bar and restaurant work well. Is it expensive? Well, simple burger + fries 84.00.. lol.
The hotel has a full board option but I went for the simple option which only included breakfast. I don't regret it, despite the price of the meals I think I would have spent a lot more on the full board.
The hotel has its own guides to take tours in the reserve, all paid separately. The water bottle is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen lol there's a terrace too, a surreal view! The rooms do not have a television and do not have Wi-Fi. There is internet connection only in common areas.
I highly recommend it! It's an experience and an investment!

Beautiful hotel to rest and get away from the stress of the city. The rooms are comfortable and beautiful, the bathroom is spacious and beautifully decorated. I loved the buffet food options, not so much the a la carte ones (very few options when it was a la carte). I found the times to reserve lunches absurd, since when we went out to do the activities or learn, we had to hurry and be anxious to be able to arrive at the time to reserve, and then be at the time given by the hotel to be able to eat. Being that we were on vacation that made us uncomfortable.
We feel some pressure to tip. There were comments like if they gave it to one area they didn't share it with those in the other areas. It was uncomfortable.
The facilities in good condition. Very clean rooms

Visiting the biological reserve of Huilo Huilo and being in the Nothhoogagus hotel, we decided to stay in the restaurant of that hotel I have to say that both the environment of the restaurant (pure nature) and the restaurant itself all wood is attractive .We sat down and after bringing the letter we say for the four diners Ovino Patagonico (ashes) the ribs of the sheep hard and very made (meat was ordered to the point) apart from a ridiculous grammage for the price ,garnish , nice color and perfectly placed to make the dish attractive , but inedible all super braised and Dry, desserts 2 Volcan Choshuenco and 1 Vocan Mocho (semi-industrial desserts) sell it as "homemade" . Drinks Golden Well Beers and Willian Cole Wine . Relationship, Quality, Service and Bad Price

At the time of arrival there is no one to give you instructions on where you have to go, where to leave the car, fortunately we know the place and we know where to go, they tell us at reception that there is no staff who can help with the luggage since that day Several people were going to arrive for the wedding that had been reserved months in advance, they told us that it is no longer a 4-star hotel and has become a mountain hotel, so they no longer have several services, there are problems with room reservations, canceled for no reason and reception says that this is Santiago's problem, therefore a family member is sent to another hotel on the premises, at dinner the food is frozen and the drink service arrived 30 minutes later. Afternoon (soda can) the next day the sector and the tables were not prepared for all the people, since the day before the person in charge of Esa ares assured us that everything would be enabled to receive people.
The hotel bar is quite interesting, they have welcome cocktails, I recommend the maqui sour with merquen, they have signature cocktails, however there is a lack of liquors since these are on the menu, service 10/10 from gigi at the bar. The room has a bar, a guarantee must be left for it to be available, the rooms are somewhat poorly maintained, the carpets and curtains in several rooms, not just mine, are quite dirty. Views of the hotel and surroundings that kill, the self-guided trails are quite easy to follow and the pizzeria is the best place to go to eat compared to the hotel restaurant that leaves a lot to be desired

Bad quality-price ratio.
Although the facilities are good and the place is incredible, the attention is not in line with the expected service.
The restaurant has dishes that do not comply with what is described in its menu or you can find, for example, overcooked chicken, therefore dry. Anyway, I hope they can improve by hiring a chef of a level appropriate to the type of hotel.
As for the hotel's cleanliness, although it looks clean at first glance, it is not the best, since they sweep the hotel instead of vacuuming it completely.
I think that if they improved these details they could provide a first-class service since the place and facilities are wonderful, the trekking circuits are really beautiful.
And it is very pleasant to wake up with a view of the forest and listen to the birds.
I hope to return in a while and that the

TrevorTravelPlanner asked a question Sept 2015
Seer Green, United Kingdom36 contributions10 helpful votesMy wife and I will be driving from Temuco to Punta Arenas at the end of October and will be staying at Nothofagus for a night. Do we need a 4WD vehicle or will a more ordinary and cheaper hire car be ok for the roads in the region?
From Temuco to Puerto Montt you should be fine with a smaller car, as motorways and A roads are in good condition (some roadworks around Neltume, but nothing too bad)... I wouldn't use a small city car, but I don't think a 4x4 is essential. After Puerto Montt I am not sure as I have never driven that way. Your plans sound amazing!
debes ir en vehiculo al norte , hasta los lagos y ahí doblar hacia la cordillera a Pangipulli y de ahi al hotel
