We stayed in a Junior Suite located in the old stables area of this former hunting estate of the aristocracy. There are three buildings with rooms: the modern hotel, the hunting lodge and the stables. We prefer the old stables. Wonderful, romantic suite overlooking woods and fields. Quiet respite from busy world. The Spa is gorgeous and well-kept. The only negative experience we had was with an intrusive spa employee trying to give us the bum's rush 30 minutes before closing. Apparently, his collecting towels from my wife while she was naked in the shower was more important that our privacy and spending 450 Euro a night! All else wonderful though with very nice staff.

We stayed at the Wald and Schlosshotel Friedrichsruhe for 5 nights. A complement goes to the friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately the hotel is failing in a few areas the 5 star standard. On our arrival day (Saturday) only one restaurant, the casual dining option “Waldschencke” with a limited choice of Dishes was available for hotel guests. Which is not acceptable for a Hotel which prides itself on its F&B offering. The Double room we booked was equipped with two adjoining single beds which where sliding constantly apart. The WiFi was of poor quality for a 5 star hotel. We brought these points to the attention of the management. The “returning 50€ voucher” was appreciated. The daily charge of 30€ for our dog is in our opinion on the very high side. Since the Friedrichsruhe is isolated located guests are limited in their dining options and the pricing is on the high side. As a resume, the property has potential but does not fulfill the 5 star expectations of experienced travelers.

We have been to the Schloßhotel Friedrichsruhe and its restaurants several times and it is always amazing how consistently the great service, the high product quality and the unique comfort are maintained. The hotel and the restaurants impress from start to finish. The check-in process is friendly and professional. Every guest receives a glass of Cremant on arrival, even when it is busy, this is never forgotten. The rooms are furnished to the highest quality and both the older part and the spa area are perfectly equipped and very comfortable. The finish of the rooms is incredibly high quality. This is not a given these days, even in upscale hotels. The mini-bar and all hygiene products are plentiful and available free of charge. The beds are cozy and comfortable.

We now know all the restaurants in the Schloßhotel and each restaurant offers the best quality, with excellent taste and great service. Starting with the Waldschänke with a classic Swabian menu, the Jägerstube with upscale home cooking, the spa restaurant with varied Asian cuisine and the 2** restaurant Le Cerf. Le Cerf is also the absolute top class among the 2** restaurants. Boris Rommel and his team cook French cuisine at the highest level. An absolute taste experience and the ambience is also incredibly pleasant. But the praise goes to all the restaurants and the entire restaurant teams. No matter which restaurant you choose, the teams are always attentive and friendly, something you rarely experience in Germany, and even in international comparison, the castle hotel with its great team is right up there.
Another positive is that the breakfast restaurant offers a great selection of à la carte dishes in addition to the buffet, which are included in the breakfast price and taste incredibly delicious. If you have a little time, you should definitely choose from the à la carte menu. It is absolutely worth it.
The spa in the castle hotel leaves nothing to be desired with a great selection of saunas, indoor and outdoor pools and a high-quality fitness area. Even on fully booked weekends, there is enough space for peace and quiet in the spa area. The entire hotel, including the spa, is built to an absolutely high standard and luxuriously.

What a horrible place. We booked here for 5 days to relax and play golf with great expectations. Having contact by email and telephone was very friendly. One of the reasons to talk over the phone was to ask about their smoking policy as my husband smokes cigars every now and then. No problem outside on the terrace we were assured. Unfortunately we met the complete opposite once arrived. The atmosphere was very stiff and old fashioned (as was the average age of most of the guests and the furniture) with no flexibility and especially no wish to make it a good experience for their guest. We fully understand that not everyone is smoking but we specifically asked to sit on the side of the terrace where we won’t bother anybody. We were simply told no by the F&B manager of the restaurant without looking for a solution, in a very impolite and unfriendly manner. After complaining and not having anyone to show any client service we decided to leave the next morning, having to pay an insane high amount of money for this one night. Never go there if you are looking for a place that values client services!

Dear guest, we are extremely sorry that you could not enjoy a nice stay with us. We take care that the other guests are not disturbed so much by smoking during the meal, but this should still be communicated in a friendly and polite manner. The fact that you felt uncomfortable by the interaction should not occur and we will take your concern as an opportunity to initiate improvements and increase hospitality and flexibility. Best wishes.

We had booked a suite for one night as a stopover before a longer vacation.

The castle hotel is in a beautiful, secluded location in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived I asked myself why other people vacation here. When we left I knew: you can really relax here. The stress of everyday life falls away from you and you immerse yourself in an atmosphere of relaxation. Be it in the garden, in the spacious wellness area or in the room, which at second glance seems very homely.

Very good beds; very good breakfast with lots of fresh products.

So why not 5 stars: well, some of the staff seem strangely distant towards the guest. And, for a room price of over 600 euros a night, you expect more than a glass of candy as a welcome in the room and more than Fanta (I didn't even know that they still had that) and Coke in the free minibar. A 15% service charge for room service and an extra 18 euros if you want to have breakfast in your room are not acceptable.

From our point of view and in comparison to other 5-star hotels, the hotel, despite the committed and very friendly staff, unfortunately lacks a lot of comfort and culture of experience.

The staff were always on hand and provided supplies of drinks and towels, and everything went smoothly at breakfast too.

The hotel and the wellness area were very clean throughout and the wellness area in particular was in very good condition after renovation. Only the brine function was broken, which was of course unfortunate.

The beds are very hard and the pillows are unfortunately completely worn out. We are used to pillow menus being offered or a large selection of pillows being available in the room. The duvets were also unusually heavy and the bedding was not of the usual cotton quality. We were very uncomfortable with the strong smell of cigarette smoke in several places in the hotel. We reported this after the first night. Unfortunately, nothing changed. People were smoking again.

At breakfast we liked the extensive menu that really left nothing to be desired. We were rather negatively surprised by the buffet. Even in 4-star hotels there are now orange juice presses, freshly made nut butter and homemade jams, honeycombs, etc. There was a lack of experience here. We found the concept of salads in jars very hygienic, but the presentation in the refrigerated counters was very canteen-like.
We will follow the further development of the hotel with interest, but will not be coming back in the near future.

Very nice complex with tastefully furnished rooms. The breakfast buffet looks tiny at first glance, but when you take a closer look, there is hardly anything left to be desired. Dinner in the restaurant is really very good and without excessive frills. The wine list is sensational!
And now for the most important thing, the wellness area.
Very nice indoor and outdoor pool, but a wellness hotel of this class does not have children jumping into the pool and running screaming through the relaxation area, the hotel management should set clear guidelines! Saunas and steam bath very nice! The foam steam bath is particularly unusual, which I had never seen before! 👍 Massages are very good and if you book a sports massage, you get one.
All in all, highly recommended for a short weekend!

Before the serious business of life begins again, we spent 5 days in Friedrichsruhe to start the new year. Since we prefer a modern European design when choosing our hotel rooms, we opted for a junior suite in the spa house. In the hotel (complex - several buildings, some of which are connected to each other) you immediately feel at home.

After a glass of sparkling wine or a non-alcoholic alternative, we were accompanied to our room. Water, bowls and a blanket for the dog were already waiting in the living room of the suite.
The suite was equipped with a well-stocked mini-bar (refilled daily and free of charge) and a Nespresso machine. Amenities, slippers, towels, bathrobe, etc. are a given in this class. The suite was very spacious, quiet and offered plenty of storage space (which is often hard to find in suites of various top hotel brands...).

The entire staff deserves special mention, both in the various outlets and in the spa, housekeeping and reception area. There is a special treat for all dog owners in the hotel, or more precisely at reception:
the staff will look after your four-legged friend, e.g. during a round of golf or a wellness treatment. You have a good feeling that your dog doesn't have to sit and wait alone in the hotel room - and the best thing is: it's free of charge.

All in all, the hotel can be recommended without reservation - we'd love to come back, also because of the great food - but especially because of the friendly staff, which you unfortunately don't find in too many service areas these days!

The Friedrichsruhe is easily accessible from the motorway (exit Neuenstein), the location is nice, really in a quiet location. The village is a few minutes away. I was on my way to Franconia, so I didn't spend the night. I had a dog with me and the nice lady at reception offered to leave my dog with her at reception. A very nice gesture. I decided to leave my dog in the car instead.
The breakfast rooms face the park, with a nice view of the old castle. It is a sprawling complex, with the restaurants located in the main complex. The reception was very nice and the buffet made a nice impression: a breakfast menu offers really unusual extras (included) apart from caviar and champagne; Very tasty bread from the local bakery, but the rolls were inferior to the bread. nice selection of jams; In a refrigerated counter there are jars with all sorts of delicious fish and pies, cold cuts - the raw ham was a bit dry but very tasty. There was another display case with different types of fruit - papaya and ripened mango was very tasty. Rich and good selection of cheese (unfortunately without labeling)
I ordered a delicious scrambled egg with chili from the menu; My stomach wasn't prepared for Munich sausages or something similar, but the selection is really great.
Of course there were also delicious juices and smashes as well as sparkling wine and non-alcoholic sparkling wine.
A successful start for the onward journey into Franconia. Very nice walks
around the property

A refuge in the middle of a beautiful park with competent and very friendly staff.
A wellness facility that is second to none and, not to forget, a hotel that even has a night shift in the pantry.
The rooms are spacious, stylishly furnished and functionally equipped.

This is all of a top standard, but if you want to experience something really extraordinary, then book a table at Cerf.

There are many good gourmet restaurants but I have never seen a kitchen where the head chef celebrates his menus with such dedication and is practically the same as a chef de rang in terms of service.

Every course is presented, the cooking process, the basic foods are explained, flambéed, carved, etc. it is simply a pleasure.
It shows once again that a meal not only stimulates the taste buds but can involve all the senses.

With his presentation, Mr. Romel succeeds in giving each individual course a value - the journey begins in the head and ends on the tongue. Compliment -
You might think that the service would no longer be needed, but the opposite is the case.
Top-trained service staff who know the wine list at least as well as Mr. Rommel in the kitchen provide expert and straightforward advice
Every wine fits perfectly and harmonizes

Many thanks for this unforgettable evening - we will be back
