Monchiero Alto exudes a particular atmosphere: a journey back in the time of the Eighteenth century, when pilgrims reached the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Rosario, finding refuge in the adjacent presbytery. The Antico Borgo Monchiero has 17 rooms: all of them are beautifully furnished and have every convenience: telephone; LCD tv; Wi-Fi connection; radio; mini bar; safe; bathroom with shower; hair dryer and exclusive courtesy products. Spa and outdoor swimmingpool ( from june to september) are included. There is also the possibility to rent Vespa or e-bike directly from the hotel.

Detailed Reviews
the place itself is outstanding: an ancient monastery turned into a 4 stars hotel with a basement built in SPA. The all structure itself is quite amazing ... with an internal chapel... plus other amenities that I am not going to describe now. This place is really unique. A restaurant is available too but we did not use it. Fantastic breakfast and very helpful personnel, ready to serve you. We will surely come back, in low season when you can appreciate the quiet that Le Langhe can offer you (besides food and wines, clearly!)

Antico Borgo is situated just a few miles from the most beautiful little town I've ever seen in Italy- Monforte d'Alba. The location is really quite lovely- on a hilltop looking out over miles and miles of vineyards. The rooms are small, but very well furnished and large enough for a couple to move around in comfortably. Very reminiscent of a former monks' quarters, yet well appointed and elegant. The many windows open wide to allow the sunshine and breezes in (and also surprisingly, bumble bees at that height, if you will let them). Breakfast was very nice and in a nice location within the hotel, with both hot and cold options. I had a made-to-order omlette just full of herbs grown right there. Very nice. Visitors MUST take a trip over to Monforte d'Alba to wander around the old part of the city and stop in at one of the many restaurants or enotecas. I would most definitely return. Oh, and coincidentally, we did not hear any ringing church bells while we slept (although I did read about that in others' reviews). A very good night's sleep.

Response from Monchiero, Direttore at Antico Borgo Monchiero
Responded 14 Aug 2014
Dear Miss IMKristaB, thank you for your kind review. We are very happy that you have appreciated your stay at the Antico Borgo Monchiero and in particular our breakfast. At the Antico Borgo Monchiero we value breakfast very much, that's why we propose customized service of cold and hot dishes made with vegetables daily picked from our organic vegetable garden. We are surrounded by very beautiful villages as Monforte D'Alba, Barolo, Dogliani and their beautiful landscapes. We have different room types some bigger than others, everyone different from each other. Everyone was back in time a cell where the monks used to live. As you have noticed the bells do not ring anymore during the night. We hope to see you soon in Monchiero! Direttore

Booked all rooms and the rooms of the B&B (Elio and Clelia) next door for our wedding -a year ago! (That was a splendid idea which we don't regret.)
To stay short: We got 5 stars plus for the price of 4 stars in this ravishingly beautiful abbey-hotel. Highest marks, unforgettable event! :-))) Highest respect to the organization, especially to Giovanni Greco who knows best how to organize restaurant and cuisine, aperitif and attentive staff. Am happy, was a good choice :-))))))))))))))

Sitting in the garden enjoying a glass of Dolceto over looking the hills. Looking forward to dinner at eight and could not ask for a more beautiful environment. Everything you would like from a trip to Italy.

Firstly, the hotel has beautiful views, due to being on the top of a hill, the 360degree view is flawless. The hotel has really made the most of this aspect, the pool and breakfast room overlook the lovely hills.
I actually went to the hotel to attend my dads wedding, and it really was a perfect venue, definitely recommendable! The staff were extremely helpful, always on hand to help, and with quite a few staff being fluent in English, it made the experience easy and enjoyable. The hotel met our many demands with ease and positivity. The rooms were very traditional Italian, clean and comfy. The hotel has also stopped the church bells ringing through the night, however they do start at 8am, so if staying in Lo studio be prepared for early starts!
Despite this, the hotel is really lovely, and definitely recommendable.

In many ways, we really loved this little hotel, in an antique monastery overlooking one of the wine valleys of the Barolo region. At night, the property is well-lit; from the distance you think "oh, what a beautiful place." The breakfast is typical, but has a wonderful view overlooking the valley. The restaurant has good food. The grounds are an 11th century monastery. The staff was also qutie friendly.
The room we stayed in for four nights was a two-room suite ("Lo Studio"). The bathroom is modern, with a shower but no bathtub. I do not recommend this room. In particular, this room is closest to the church bells, which ring all night.
There is a spa with an outdoor pool and indoor jacuzzi (internally located with no view), so you can bring your swim suit and enjoy.
Given all this, why is the rating only "3" out of "5". There were several problems during the stay, any one of which could have been overlooked, there were just too many:
* There are no drawers in the bedroom for clothes. They are in the other room in the suite.
* The WIFI (for the internet) does not reach the room. There is no WIFI signal, except in the reception.
* The Internet did not work from Friday evening to Monday, when we checked out.
* The church bells ring all night. So, for instance, at 3 a.m., they ring 3 times just before the hour, 3 times at the hour, and then one more ring at 3:30 a.m. The bells themselves are no more than 30 feet from the room where we stayed, so the bedroom literally vibrated with the ringing.
* The water in the room was not quite hot enough for 3 of the 4 days we were there. It wasn't cold, but in the cold mornings in Piemonte, I wanted a hot shower.
* The toilet backed up on Sunday and it took much of the day to get it fixed. By the way, once the plumber visited, the hot water also became hot.
The staff -- who were quite nice -- did tell us that the hotel opened in May. I guess the hotel is still ironing out the wrinkles. I would consider staying there again. If you are coming from Torino, it is about an hour from Lingotto, so it is quite convenient.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights. The restored monastery has been expertly decorated and refurbished in an aesthetically pleasing way. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our room was a deluxe and was big enough and with enough storage space. I was really pleased to find a bath tub!
It rained 2 days and was quite chilly when we were there, so we ended up spending most of one of those days at the hotel which was very quiet and peaceful. We had a late lunch in the restaurant which was delicious. The breakfast buffet had sweet and savory options and you could order eggs if wanted.
There is not much to the village of Monchiero, so if you are looking for activity you will need to drive to Barolo, La Morra or one of the other villages not far away. Also, the church bells ring on the hour between 8 AM and 11 PM, so if that is something that will bother you, keep it in mind as they are fairly loud.
We had to check out before the breakfast service began, so the staff prepared a very generous assortment of fruit, breads, yogurt and much more for us to take on the train with us. Also, I accidentally left a few clothing items there and they are going to mail them to me at our next stop in Italy. I would say that the customer service was excellent!
This is a great place for a restful stay with beautiful surroundings!

In a large set of quiet buildings on a hill, this hotel overlooks the vineyards and charming houses below. The receptionists speak perfect English and Italian and the rooms are spacious and lovely with a concept to their design. Very beautiful with a rustic feel, though all ammenities are thought of. Pool, sofas in the garden, plenty of windows, views and history (used to be a monastery! The bell and chapel is still here!), it is a great and unique place to go, but not absolutely stunning to earn five out of five. Enjoyed it immensely!
