Two self catering barn conversions with quality, modern facilities, situated in an ideal location for exploring the South Pennines. The cottages are set on a farm in a secluded location with fantastic views. Footpaths leading to the Pennine Way and Pennine Bridleway go directly from the farm. Hollingworth Lake and Whittaker Golf Club are nearby. Littleborough is the nearest town just over a mile away where there are two supermarkets and an array of independent shops. Regular trains from the station in Littleborough go to Manchester and Leeds. Cottage 1 has one bedroom with a double or two single beds, Cottage 2 has two bedrooms and can sleep 3 guests. Both cottages have a separate shower room upstairs with toilet and washbasin. Downstairs is open plan in both cottages with fitted kitchen, dining and lounge area. Both cottages are heated by renewable groundsource heat pumps and also have wood burners for that extra cosiness in the winter months.

We have just returned from a week's stay in this lovely cottage. We travelled from Spain to the area to visit our grandson. On arrival we was pleasantly surprised to find a festive cottage ready for Christmas. The attention to detail given to make guests feel welcome deserves a mention. The cottage was warm and clean with everything you could ask for and very well thought out. The location is peaceful with fantastic views. We would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage

Highly recommend these cottages. We stayed in cottage 2, which was very well equipped and spotless. The views are amazing and Littleborough was very charming. We didn't want to leave and could quite easily have moved in permanently.

4th or 5th year at this lovely cottage on the moors. Our favourite walking holiday destination. We don’t rent a car we walk everywhere and taxi back. Or walk to Littleborough take a train to Manchester or Hebden Bridge. Walk the canals or over the tops. Lots of shops and pubs nearby. Hosts are wonderful and very helpful. Will be back again and again.

This was our third time in cottage 1 at Fielden farm and it is always a terriffic experience.
The cottage itself is lovely, fully equipped with everything you need and Jean always has a welcome gift. It is part of a working sheep farm with great views over the Pennines. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

The barn conversion was spacious and had everything we needed. Owners friendly and welcoming but also left you to get on with holiday, so was perfect for us. They also provided milk, butter, jam, bread and eggs on arrival which was a lovely touch. Wonderful views and the farm was immaculate and well kept. Lots of lovely walks on the doorstep with towns close by for shopping. Hollingworth Lake was great. Shame about the weather as we would have liked to have gone sailing as a family but sadly the British summer let us down. Lots of eateries around. Dickey Steps Riding School was also a very good inexpensive activity which our child attended and thoroughly enjoyed the horse riding. Excellent value for money for a family holiday if you are not wanting a beach holiday.

Having to be in England in January was not ideal, however we had a funeral to attend and this location was close to family. Cottage 1 is one bedroom and a perfect size for us. Our daughter and granddaughter visited in comfort. Watching the farm workings was very relaxing, sheep being herded, tractors moving hay, etc.. The hosts are gracious and the sheep dogs so sweet! The entry to the property is a bit steep and the road has significant potholes yet it's manageable. We will definitely check availability the next time we visit this area.

We hired both cottages over the December 2014-January 2015 period for 16 days, arriving from Australia to a sprinkling of snow on the 27/12. We liked the cottages, they were modern, clean and compact; and the views outside were delightful. Drawbacks included the unsealed road on initial approach to the cottages, which at times was difficult to navigate, particularly in the dark or when it was icy (not sure why it hadn't been sealed like the rest of the approach road). The main drawback though was entry to one of the cottages by the owners (to close a window) whilst we were out. Importantly, there was no emergency, rather blue skies and a lovely day - and no apology was forthcoming. From there, we felt policed by the close proximity of the owners' abode, particularly when one of our party chose to open a window (just slightly) whilst showering which resulted in almost immediate knocks at the door and a request to close it. We are seasoned travelers and found this rather odd. Our recommendations to the owners include: Perhaps locking the windows if you don't want guest to open them when they are at home in the winter; and perhaps providing a safe for passports / money etc whilst letting guests know ahead of time that you may enter the cottages if you feel the need. Overall we loved Littleborough & the cottages' location but we would not stay there again as we are used to renting cottages that are essentially "ours" for the duration of our stay.

Response from Jean M, Owner at Fielden Farm Cottages

I feel I need to respond to this review so that prospective guests get a fair picture. We own the part of the farm lane that is surfaced with tarmac, we would like to seal the rest of the lane up to the road but would require agreement from our neighbours to do this. The lane is not lit as it is a farm lane, the end can get icy in wintry conditions and requires care but my mother who is in her eighties, has tootled up and down in her little car for the last 50 odd years. We leave a sheet inside the information folder asking guests to close windows and roof lights before leaving the cottage. The cottages are on a exposed hill top farm on the edge of the South Pennines and the weather at any time of year can change very quickly! We informed the family on their return that we had been into the cottage to close the Velux which had been left wide open while they were out all day. Subsequently they left the Velux open again while out and I had to ask them to close it on a very windy day when it was wide open. We are aware of the possible damage that can result if the wind catches an open Velux and flipping it over. In common with most landlords we have right to enter the cottage when necessary as stated in our terms and conditions. We don't lock the windows as we trust people to use common sense. We are now looking at putting some kind Velux window restrictors on the cottages so we don't have to worry about this situation re-occuring in the future. We have a strict no smoking policy in the cottages. However the cigarette ends found under the bed when cleaning the small bedroom in Cottage 2 may explain why the roof lights were left open? Our honesty regarding guests personal possessions/money has never questioned previously.

A very nice cottage indeed with plenty of space. Beautifully and tastefully designed, lots of light, and fantastic views from the windows, all the equipment we could need, and very helpful hosts offered us extra books to read when they found out we were interested in the walks and the local history. We were very lucky with the weather, and had some great walks that started right at the cottage - but there's plenty left for us to do another time. A great centre for lots of good holiday spots (Hebden Bridge, Haworth, etc, etc, as well as Manchester for some culture if it were to rain), all accessible by train, or on foot along the Rochdale Canal). Really quiet and peaceful but within walking distance of a good tapas restaurant! We are thoroughly rested after our week.

My teenage daughter and I have had a great week in cottage 1. We loved the cottage, a real home from home, comfortable and everything we needed was at hand. Daughter especially liked the wifi and the sheep.
We were close to the station and went into manchester on the train as it was cheaper than driving and parking. Manchester Victoria station is right in the heart of the city. Great shopping, we also went to the Trafford centre. A day out in Blackpool was not too far to drive.
A lovely time, we also liked the lake which is close by.

We had an excellent stay in cottage number 2. It is well situated to go out for trips around in Greater Manchester, Leeds, etc. or for walks into the countryside. Modern cottage with all you need and comfortable beds.
