Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Enjoyed a wonderful week here over New Year. Facilities basic but adequate, including a full kitchen and undercover BBQ. The location is fantastic - very quiet (except for the birds) and a short walk to Allans Beach, where we never failed to see seals or sea lions. Friendly hosts, who made sure we were looked after and always happy to help.

The host, sam and Christine are an awesome couple who went the extra mile to make sure we had a wonderful stay.

The cottage which we stayed in had "everything that we need" as quoted by Christine. The view are wonderful and fascinating! Just behind the cottage, you can walk pass a paddock to a beach whereby you can see blue penguins as well as sea lion :)

Not to be missed is Uncle Sam's evening tour whereby you feel feel the most privileged being in the world to be shown the natural beauty of east cost NZ... Seals and Sea Lions as well as the critically endangered yellow eyed penguin. Uncle Sam is involved in conservation efforts with the DOC to help increase the population of the penguins.

Definitely a must for nature and animal lovers

We were traveling with an extended family of 11 and absolutely loved the farm stay! Amazingly beautiful, rustic location easily accommodated our group (using the cottage, shed and sleep out). Sam and Christine were very welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed chatting with them. The most amazing part was the short walk to a pristine beach. We saw penguins and sea lions and the landscape is stunning. Would go again in a heartbeat!!

It was great to have you all stay at Allans Beach Farmstay. It is not often that we get a group of your size to stay. So glad that you all enjoyed your visit to the Otago Peninsula and our place. We look forward to hosting you again in the future.

Emailed the Farmstay to make a reservation and also supplied to them my phone number in the email. All I received in return was a very cold email stating quote, "can't help you" no more no less in this email...
No apologies of possibly being booked or a thank you for visiting their website, NOTHING...

Not a very good business sense of being remotely apprcitative that someone took the time to find them on line and tried to book their cottage. They must not welcome nor need the business so it is what it is. I booked another cottage that appreciates/welcomes business and was very accommodating.

We stayed in the Shed, which was equipped with everything we need - right down to the much-needed salt for our cookong! A cosy and homely place, with a warm host we found in Christine. The tubby cat Bronco was quite cute, though he shocked us by meowing outside our front door during one rainy night :) The bed warmers were a nice touch, and the bathroom was clean. We enjoyed the walk to their private beach where we spotted a sea lion lazing on the sand. The photographs we took on th beach made it seem like we were in another world altogether- beautiful. We regret not asking Christine to show us around her farm to see more animals. Overall, it is worth the meandering drive in, and a good place to spend the night.

Firstly I must say the location is as good as it gets, you have the farm all around you and the beach within 5 minutes walk so this is 10 out of 10 but compared with the rest of New Zealand I found the welcome and accommodation very different here and very disappointing. Both my wife and I had the feeling from our hosts that we should be grateful to be staying in such a wonderful setting and as such we feel that less effort has been made with the accommodation. Inside the cabin you have most of what you need but it is very dated (it is clean) and limited effort has been made to update this, and when I compare this with other places we stayed on this holiday where they have made an big effort then I have to say it is not good enough.
The final insult came when at the end of our stay we were charged a higher price than agreed and it again felt as though our hosts just could not get our money quick enough and have us on our way.

I am pleased that 'yellow' enjoyed staying at our location. Yes, we do consider ourselves very blessed to live in such a beautiful location and we enjoy sharing it with our guests. Yes, our accommodation is not 5 star but we do not market it as such. The pictures on our web site show our accommodation as it is. I really have no idea about the pricing issue. I ALWAYS give a quote at the time of booking and that is it. A bit of a mystery really.

... we LOVED this very special place on Otago Peninsula!! The cottage was adorable, clean, bright, great views and everything we needed to be at home and comfy for 3 nights. Would have loved to stay longer. The beach was spectacular and very short walk was just as spectacular through huge yellow lupines that opened to the private beach. We saw seal lions, birds and completely enjoyed the ambiance of this amazing place. Hosts Christine and Sam were fantastic!! I dream of the day that we'll be back!

At the end of the world. Little old farm house with everything you need, even for real cooking, not only breakfast. 5 minutes walk to the magnificient shore with the seals lying around, seagulls flying, rabbit and nothing else. Vers nice landlord.

I loved this place so much that I went back on my 3rd visit to NZ. Sam and Christine were wonderful. I loved the cabin - set up with everything you need - but the short walk to the secluded beach is spectacular... heaven on earth for me.
