Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was an overnight stop on our way up north. Situated just south of Haast Collyet House is in a beautiful spot on the coast. Nerilee the owner greeted us warmly, showed us around the kitchen and sitting area and then to our room. It was a reasonable size, very clean, very comfortable and well appointed. The bathroom was similarly spotless and well appointed. After a good nights sleep we had a delicious breakfast, fruit to start then full English (!) and then Neville slowed us to use her phone and did not hurry us on whilst we re-arranged all our travel plans. We would like to have had a better look around the area and enjoyed another night, and breakfast, but time beat us. We hope to retu4n one day.

We stayed for two nights at Collyer House. It is everything a good B and B should be. Comfortable bed in a beautiful room with views out to the estuary. Good shower (over bath). Plenty of storage space. There is a large communal area with sofa and chairs in front of the wood burning fire, large dining table and chairs and another sitting area to watch the views.

But the best part of it is Neroli. She is a fantastic host. She is very much a local lady, although she has spent many years away from Haast in various parts of the world. Her knowledge of the local area makes for interesting listening. Breakfast was good - plenty of choice, and you eat with the other guests which make for interesting conversation.

There is a lot in the area to visit, but the sand flies are a real pest. Go for the extra strength deet repellent, but wash it off when you get into the house.

First off, there aren't many options for lodging once you leave Wanaka and prior to getting to Fox Glacier. I decided on somewhere in between so we could do some of the many day hikes along the way. The room we had was nicely done, and she had everything ready for our arrival. I do have to say it she puts on an OUTSTANDING breakfast. However, the cost of the room per night was the most we paid throughout our trip to NZ.

We spent one night at Collyer House enroute from the West Coast to Fiordland. The public spaces (lounge and dining room) were large and comfortable. The bedroom and ensuite bath were small though adequate but we were dismayed to find that the doors to the individual bedrooms did not lock. The reception we received from the hostess was cool compared to the other B&B’s that we stayed at in New Zealand. On the plus side, the breakfast included in the room rate was generous and well-prepared.

Dont arrive early, unlike other accommodation check in is at 3pm. Remote, quiet position. Beautiful views over distant bay across expansive sandfly flats. Room had no fly wire. Comfortable king bed, two antique chairs, bedside tables, huge chest of drawers with mirror, and built in hanging space with case rack. Lovely views. French doors open to verandah with small wooden table & chairs. No fly wire. No fridge, no tea & coffee making facilities, no TV, wifi not working. No writing desk. Ensuite bathroom heated, good shower over bath. Hanging space for one towel only. Huge comfortable community sitting area, with fireplace, TV, lovel views. No fly wire. Great breakfast. But when all considered not worth $280 we paid for the night.

The wild west coast of NZ is stunning whatever the weather.
After arriving in Wanaka from Mt Cook late one afternoon and being told that we had about 75 minutes to drive from Wanaka over the Haast Pass to Haast before the road was shut due to rock avalanches, I had no time to spare. In teeming rain, I put the foot to the floor, as best I could and with luck and little traffic along the Mackenzie Plains and Lake Wanaka, made it past the road barrier with 10 minutes to spare.
As we descended the Haast Pass, the cloud lifted, the rain stopped and the brillant blue sky and sun heralded our arrival at Collyer House.
Our hosts, Sandra and Dennis met us at the door with welcomes and a cup of fresh coffee. Our room, the O'Leary Room, had the late afternoon sun streaming in and the screens keeping the sandflies at bay.
The House is a heritage reminder of the cattle droving family with a long history lovingly recorded in books in the House. Its spectacular vista overlooks a tidal lagoon at the top end of Haast Beach and you can just pause and listen to the wind and surf punding the ancient coast.
Sandra's recommendations of activities for our 2 days covered jet boat tours, helicopter pickups on the back lawn, lobster-munching in Jacksons Bay and dinners at 2 local hotels which provided solid if not rather good fresh dinners with a choice of very good local NZ wines by the glass.
Our two days were spent out and about, up rivers on cruises, eating fresh fish, walking on beaches and along glaciers.
Each evening there was wonderful hospitality in the House of gossip with friends, coverning cooking, travel, politics and life.
The facilities were excellent - we slept like logs after all the west coast fresh air, the ensuite waters were hot on demand and the breakfasts were filling and freshly cooked.
A seriously fabulous place and our hosts were impeccable - highly recommended!

Beautiful house and lovely location off the beaten track. Friendly manager and lovely breakfast. Clean, safe, close parking and warm house. Very peaceful at night and internet service is good for the kids. Be careful if you are using GPS to find the place as it sometimes drops out while driving.

Welcoming host.
Comfortable room.
Tea and coffee available as needed.
Good hearty cooked breakfast.
Wifi was adequate for general use.

As is the norm in this part of NZ, take note of hosts instructions regarding mosquitoes and sand flies.

Neroli Nolan not only a friendly hostess but her purpose built B&B has some wonderful scenic photos of the Haast area captured by herself. A very competent photographer. We stacked up on her photo postcards, her Native Clematis is stunning. Oops forgot to mention, very comfortable room, great outlook to an island where a bunch of sealers were maroons for 3 years back in early 1800's. Recall they were said to have butchered 17000 seals waiting for their mother ship to return which never eventuated.
Around the district you see the Nolan name, even an old can of whitebait, Nolan Cannery, which on display at Curly Beach Whitebait Company. Stop in and grab a whitebait pattie on slice of bread. All whitebait, minimum of fritter.
Back to Neroli, a top breakfast. Has to be, Neroli has been doing it for 14 years!

Outstanding hospitality from Neroli and Brian who welcomed us into their home like old friends.
The house is large and comfortable, although some might not find the contemporary furnishings to their liking. Rooms exceptionally clean and comfortable. Free Wifi in room but no tea/coffee making facilities nor TV, though Neroil quite happy to make drinks.
The house is isolated and the nearest food is 10 mins away in Haast (which is a pretty uninspiring place); we went to The Craypot in Jackson's Bay which is about 30 mins drive south.
Views over the beach really refreshing.
Good breakfast choices including freshly cooked.

Hi Chris Thank you for your enquiry. I have accommodation on the 9th February but 10.00pm would be the latest. Maybe you could phone from Wanaka (you lose mobile after that) and give some idea of your arrival and maybe I can leave the door open and tell you which room (I can't function 7 days a week without sleep!!). If you would like to book then visit my website. You will have google as this site will not allow me to tell you. I hope you get some great weather in Milford. Regards Neroli
