Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stay here over xmas period. Book a self contained 2 bedroom unit we had a good comfortable stay the unit was clean had a fridge, cooking facilities, good wet room and a TV which we never turned on as we were pre occupied. All our neighbours we spoke to had a great stay and all the campers seemed happy. The hosts were great and the shop was very handy as the closet place to get any supplies were 15 km up the rd. We were provided clean towels each day. We had no complaints what so ever.

This is a very basic but spacious camp some 15km south of Haast on the long cul-de-sac leading to Jackson Bay. Pitches have power but no water. Check-in was straight forward and we were told to choose any pitch, some are grass, some gravel, most are a bit wet and all are boggy in heavy rain, site drainage being poor. Some toilets are acceptable, others are very poor. The kitchens are ok but a bit basic, the laundry works but is very cramped. The Internet is available at $10 per hour. There is little alternative choice in the immediate area and better facilities are available in Haast town.

We booked this through Hokitika Tourist Info centre as we were on our way from Hokitika to Queenstown via Fox Glacier so it seemed a reasonable area to stop overnight (plus we wanted to go to the famous Cray Pot in Jackson Bay for their fish and chips). It was only after we'd booked and paid for it that I looked up trip advisor reviews - and thought, "What have I done, my wife will be livid!" Well, the woman in reception was actually very friendly and helpful (her husband was a wee bit gruff but was pleasant enough). The cabin was equipped with a kitchen and it a bit tired and shabby but for $70 it was quite good value. It was quiet enough to sleep too. Wouldn't stay longer than a night but can't really complain.

I 've been over there to stay a night, once i get there, nobody was on the main reception office. so i entered with my van to have a look in the premises, the holiday park was totaly empty...
So in my way back driving to the office, a man apeared in front of my van and jump in front of the car... He took mi door, opened in a very nasty way and he started tellng me off because i was not allowed inside couse was just for guest... I told him that was dangerous jumping in front of a car.... He asked me if in was not able to read the paper that was in the door (just guest allowed) and i answered that i couldn't read in english... This guy was scaring me, crazy man!!!!
I have to say that i haven't even down the car, just gave a turn around on the vans parkning area...

I told this man, apparently the owner, that i would like to be a guest... But nobody was in... So he changed his crazy face and said:" so come in"... After this experiencie, i said him that of course not... I better go to another place... He answered with a very nice :"[--] off"

We arrived in our camper van and were directed to our pitch by the owner. As we drove through into the site we were confronted by a crowded, shabby site that we would never have paid for had we realised how bad it was (those of you from the UK will probably understand if I say it looked like Dale Farm before the police arrived).

The owner then tried to back us into a pitch which was so narrow we would not have been able to open the doors!

When we politely said that it wasn't for us, the owner became very aggressive and kept some of the money we had paid for "wasting my time". When we complained he genuinely replied " go on and [--] off back to where you come from!"

Do not make the extra journey out of Haast - the Aspiring site in the township is much better and the people are lovely. And it's cheaper!

Stayed at this park (approx 15kms out of town) because of the beach however 20 min walk to get access to the beach. Lovely when we got to the beach however. Older park and facilities are adequate but average, with only couple of showers - one was wheelchair access which also had one of the 2 toilets available. Small bathroom and with only a small handful of vans there, bathroom was too small with a few people in there. Other than that, price was very reasonable and the lady who checked us in was very, very friendly and efficient. They had a small store and freezer so we were able to purchase our dinner from their stock which saved us having to drive back into the town. Kitchen was well equipped and bbq was under cover and handy.

We came here on our way from Fox Glacier to Wanaka, because of a recommendation in the Lonely Planet. I doubt that anyone of the LP writers ever saw this park. The facilities are limited and in terrible shape, the staff is unfriendly and unlike the "promise" of the holiday park's name, the next beach access is miles away.

An old and tired site but with a new facilities block which is good. Plagued by sand flies so repellant is necessary. Off the beaten track and not in Haast. Beach is quite a walk along road and over a bridge. On road to Jackson Bay which is worth a visit. Internet slow and variable.

The facility is unsuitable for camping. A male staff member refused to acknowledge our concerns It became clear that this guy was a bit dim as his responses were nonsense and he resorted to verbal abuse and physically threatening behaviour. I went to the Coummunity Constable the next day to report the verbal assault and threatening behaviour. The male staff member was unable to refute our concerns, so we left the facility. Stay away! The toilet facilities were out of commission and the place is run down. There are plenty of other better camping sites in the Haast area.

We have stayed here twice now. It's a great place for the traditional Kiwi traveller, though perhaps not what an overseas visitor expecting all the frills would look for. Ourselves we enjoy & prefer to stay in this type of family run camping ground rather than the expensive chains. The staff are friendly & pleasant
The facilities are clean & tidy & well kept but nothing fancy. Excellent showers with no need to worry about whether you have the right coins!!
When we were here there were lots of family groups about as it was the school holidays & white-baiting season, but the grounds are big enough that we were not disturbed by other groups.
Excellent place to base yourself for a trip down to Jackson's Bay and to enjoy the nature walks (one of which is right opposite the campsite) and the distinctive West Coast scenery.
