Schwangau is a small village located just 3 minutes from Neuschwanstein castle. Gasthof Hanselewirt is located within Schwangau and is loaded with charm, warm hospitality and inexpensive accomodations. Your cost includes breakfast (cereal, meats, cheeses, yogurts, fruit, etc.). There is a restaurant on premises that offers a full menu (meat, fish, vegetarian) at affordable prices. The tourist city of Fussen is only 10 minutes away and surely, you'd pay another 50% for the same type hotel/restaurant. In Schwangau, you get a good feel for the culture of the area...in Gasthof Hanselewirt, you'll get a good nights sleep with all the amenities you'd need. Loved it!

Very nice small hotel in a beautiful traditional village nearby the Neuschwanstein castle. The room was reasonable priced and nice and quiet. The restaurant in the hotel with traditional bavarian food was quite good. We had an excellent stay and would happily return.

The room has a great view of Neuschwanstein castle. Room is large with lots of windows. Excellent internet service. Beds are comfortable. The staff has been great. Dinner was such a pleasant surprise. You have to try to cheese dumplings with grilled onions and any salad with the sour cherry dressing. Be AWARE, you will be served too much very good food. We feel very lucky to have found this hotel. Our thanks for a great stay

We arrived in Schwangau early to have lunch and walk around the area. Stopped at the hotel to ask for some information and the owner was rude telling me over and over that check in was 1500. I repeated back several times as well I understand...I only was inquiring information for area restaurants. We came back at 1500, and we checked in with a friendly lady. The next morning, my husband went to the reception desk to get a "do not disturb" tag for our room, and the same lady was extremely rude and impatient with my husband. So please consider another hotel..I did not feel welcome here. Other than our stay, the area is beautiful and easy to walk to local restaurants.

I was astonished by the unfriendly and, frankly, hostile reception from the owner who shouted down from a first floor window as we came to see if we could check in. "...get off the driveway", "...no, not open. See the sign which says 17:30....", although an earlier check in time should have been possible. To my great regret, it was not possible to cancel the reservation. Much better options are available with a lake view, and MUCH CHEAPER too, as well as a friendly, welcoming reception, which one normally expects as a guest. Then there was the noisy sleep-robbing night: Constant clattering of the flag against the wooden facade. In the end I had to remove the offending item. I told the reception of the problem. Later I saw it was simply put back. Who cares about the guests concerns..........Not Hansele! Avoid this place like the plague.

I was researching hotels to visit the 2 King Ludwig castles and thought they were very overpriced near the castle car parks as well as being ridiculously noisy with the daily tourist hordes, I came across the Hanselewirt in nearby Schwangau about a 2km drive to the castles - OK if you have a car and knowing that car park fee is E7 which you can easily afford from your E50+ saving on your hotel cost. Had a lovely big double room for single traveller on the top floor. Overlooked peaceful village st
Dinner was Wienerschnitzel at very low cost, Great service. Really top value,

Response from rschweiger, Manager at Hotel Hanselewirt
Responded 13 Feb 2015
Thank you Maria B for your lovely comments regarding our hotel. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay so much. It's great to hear you took full advantage of the Romantic Road and visited many points of interest along this route. It is a very popular way to see Germany and avoid the motorways! As well as the castles you mentioned, We are also very close to Linderhof castle, the Wies Pilgrimage Church, Oberammergau village, famous for its Passion Plays and Christmas shop etc. Maybe you will come back and explore more, we would be delighted to welcome you again!

Good: The hotel was easy to find and the parking area is across the road. The TV has an English news channel. The bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. The WiFi works well. Breakfast was very good (included bacon & eggs) but a little pricey. The hotel was decorated in a quaint rural fashion which works well in this location. Good location near the Castles. No lift.

Bad: The female who booked us in, was abrupt.

The hotel location is great - only a few minutes drive away from the castle! The room is clean and tidy. The services are great, and staff are friendly. The price is unbeatable - best value for money! You can also use their services to buy tickets for the castle, avoid the queue at the ticket office.

Very near from a bus stop for the Neuschwanschtain castle. The room was wide enough for my family with two active children. The restaurant served with really delicious dishes of traditional German foods.
