We had a standard room in the 1. Floor with views of the mountains, therefore we did not notice anything from the street noise. The room was not yet renovated but clean and had a terrace from which we could also enter the courtyard behind the hotel.
We were there 1 week and it was absolutely sufficient for us. The standard rooms in the 2. Floor all have NO terrace/balcony. The breakfast is very rich and delicious, the staff very nice in all areas.
Absolute plus is the lockable bicycle garage in the courtyard behind the hotel (open with the room card. Each bike parking space has a socket for charging the e-bikes).
Parking for the cars is ample around the hotel (as long as everyone is careful not to park too generously and occupied by 1 car 2 parking spaces).
We did not use the wellness area, the hot tub costs an extra fee. Towels for the sauna and bathrobes we had included in the room.
There is plenty of gastronomy in Schwangau, which can be easily reached on foot from the hotel (including the brewery, 10 minutes). The restaurant in the hotel itself is very high priced, we have not tested, therefore cannot say anything about quality and quantity. But, as already mentioned, there are plenty of alternatives nearby. Directly opposite is an Edeka and about 500 m away is a Rewe and a few outlet stores (Trigema, Mac and Schießer). The Schwangau cheese factory is also only about 300 m away.
Lake Forggensee can be reached in 5 - 10 minutes on foot, in the neighborhood there are some other lakes. Swimming was allowed free of charge at all lakes.
The Tegelbergbahn is 2 km behind the hotel. It is definitely worth going up to the Tegelberg. Great views and there are some hiking trails. We walked down into the valley. We passed directly by the Marienbrücke and Neuschwanstein
The Kristalltherme is about 1 km from the hotel (suitable for bad weather days).
Füssen can be reached after 3 km.
So everything in the immediate vicinity and easily accessible. The landscape is beautiful and predestined for hiking or cycling tours. You can see the castles almost everywhere.
We liked everything very much.
The Hotel Weinbauer gets an absolute recommendation from us 👍🏼
Another tip: if you book directly through the hotel, the rooms are much cheaper than for example through booking.com with the same conditions.
It offers an excellent, especially savory, breakfast.
There is no air conditioning, mini bar or safe.
There is a small spa and a restaurant. We had a good time.
We had no problems with check in / check out and the staff was friendly.
The front of the hotel is on a busy road. Our room was on the back overlooking parking and a field with a partial mountain view.
Room was a good size, bed was comfortable. See pics. Balcony was a good size with 2 chairs and a small table. One of the drawers in the wardrobe could be locked to provide a safe space to keep the laptop etc. There is a glass door in the room between the entry and the bedroom area which helps keep noise down. Bathroom was shower only. Wifi worked well in the room. See pics.
Breakfast was a good, extensive, cold buffet. Breads, jams, cheese, cold meat, eggs, cereal, etc. The room is rather large and also has an outdoor area. They had strawberries which were local and delicious
There is a grocery store across the street, which also has a post office inside.
Nearby restaurant: Pizzeria - If exiting from the front of the hotel take a right and in a block or so across the street you will find it. Very good food for the price.
The drive to the cable car at Tegelberg was very short. You must pay cash for the cable car and parking. The view from up here was very nice – they have a bunch of parasailers launch from the top. However if you take the walk up to the panoramic scenic spot the view is amazing and highly recommended. One of my favorites of the trip. You can’t see the castles from the top. You can see Castle Neuschwanstein from the parking lot / on the way up.
Most people come for the castles. Also very close. Go to the back road behind the hotel and take a right and drive a few minutes. You will end up at the base where there are parking lots. You can only visit the castles by taking the paid tours. You sign up for the tour at a specific time. Go early as the tours are limited in size and sell out. Castle Neuschwanstein (the big, famous one) is on top of a big hill. You can walk up for free (limited places to sit and rest) or you can take the bus (cheapest but can be a long wait as it is a single lane road so there is only 1 bus going up or down) or you can hire a horse and buggy. Castle Hohenschwangau is a very short walk up. The lake Alpssee is right there too.
We also went down for a walk around Lake Forggensee – also very short drive. It was a very nice path next to the lake. You can also take the local ferries on the lake to various other towns if you would like to get a view out on the lake.
For those not used to traveling in Europe:
1) Rooms are smaller than in the US
2) Hotel ratings are different - generally a 4 star hotel in Europe would be 3 or 3.5 star in the US
3) Bathrooms usually have a shower or a bathtub but not usually both. If you have a preference check before you book
4) Queen / Double beds are two twins pushed together. The hotel can organize the room two different ways then depending on what is requested
5) Duvets are separate for each person - not one big one. Great if one of you is always hot and the other always cold
6) Pillows are flat - you'll have to double them over to prevent your head from hitting the mattress.
7) Common US breakfast foods are not usually served except maybe at larger chain hotels (oatmeal, pancakes, waffles). Eggs are usually hard boiled or scrambled - not omelettes.
8) If you're on a budget breakfast is included, get groceries and make sandwiches for lunch and then eat dinner out.
9) European public transit is very nice, clean, pleasant and efficient. If the schedule says 12:02 the train leaves at 12:02 so don't run late as it will already be gone!
If I were in the shoes of the restaurant’s owner I would take some precaution about this big, unpolite and sad waitress who, at the very first sight of us has taken this rude behaviour against us.
Pity, because the place is nice and the food is excellent.
Even the price is adequate.
Please, change this woman!
The rooms are nice and well equiped -we prefer the ones with a balcony- the breakfast is excellent and the staff is very friendly. There is also an excellent restaurant, but if you want to eat out, Schwangau offers lots of nice restaurants with good kitchens.
