I have spent several holidays staying in a caravan previously at the this Motor Camp - obviously enjoying it as I would not have returned. I stayed recently and was really disappointed. As before all facilities were clean and well maintained but unfortunately we felt that everything we did was wrong. There was a problem with people arriving late (not the Managers fault) but they were advised and made it before the gates were closed at 9pm. Obviously showers, coffee etc were needed and we were told that the kitchen and the showers were closed. Then we were chatting in the tent and were told to be quiet - no noise after 10.30. However no one told the kids staying in the camp to be quiet at 7.00am the next morning when others were asleep.
The next day was very hot and we moved our chairs closer to the shade between two caravans - which were all closed up and nobody there - but were told to move as people could arrive at any time. I found the lady - Jane - very pleasant and easy to deal with but her husband needs to change his attitude, get a more convivial personality and learn that people are on a break to relax and not be treated like children. His communication skills certainly need an overhaul.
We have stayed in many camping grounds and this is the first time we have been treated like naughty children. I know there are rules to be obeyed but some maybe need to be a little relaxed and more flexible at this motor camp. A shame as it is in a beautiful spot with a nice beach. Needless to say - we wont be back!

What a superb haven to relax in. The hosts Jane and Alan were extremely welcoming and nothing was too much trouble . The facilities were well maintained and clean and we enjoyed being in such a well run camp. We will be returning.

Only stayed a night, but would be keen to return in the summer. It will be a very popular spot! The camp is right beside the beach, with a view of the Sky Tower right across the water. Very friendly camp manager who made sure we had all that we required for a pleasant stay. The facilities were excellent.

Nice small and quiet campground with lovely beach, cute playground and ice cream shop nearby. Clean facilities. Unfortunately, host Jane appeared irritated and unhappy, often sighing and muttering to herself while attending to cleaning tasks. There are so many rules with negative and utterly kill-joy signs e.g. "No games on the grass" or "PLEASE MOP OUT SHOWER TRAY AFTER USE!!!" (please don't yell at your guests, Jane - people come for a holiday). Such a nice spot, but will not return due to host's behaviour.

Managers grumpy with crazy rules. No sports or games of any kind in the camp, no balls (kids got told off for playing hide and seek and kicking a soccer ball). Bed time 10.30, not quiet time bed time! Got told off for driving over a patch of grass to drop kayaks to beach, their tractor was allowed but not our 4x4. Very anti children. All games and play must happen at the beach or next door at the park. We will not be back.

What a disappointment especially seeing that the location is picture perfect. The management is not your standard welcoming kiwis and in urgent need for some soft skills training. The bbq area consist of only bbq that is semi functioning. The hot water last for 4 minutes and you are required to mop the bathroom after every shower, kids are not allowed to play any sport on the grounds etc. It was sad to hear how some guest were also complaining about the managers lack of tact etc. A campgrounds "vibe" means a lot, and after 20 plus camping trips this was the worst. Such a shame

The campsite is clean and is in a good location right on the beach but the hosts Jane and Alan are very strict, always walking around watching what you are up to, there are so many rules! We wanted to put a beach shade up on the grass at the front looking out to the beach, it was blocking no ones view and was in no ones way but we were told no we couldn't do that. There is also a nice grass area for kids to play but the sign says 'No games on grass', and dont bother having visitors because you will be told in front of your visitors quite firmly that you must register them and pay $10 per visitor. The hosts just don't seem very happy. And on that note, we will not be returning to Orua Bay Motor Camp anytime soon! :-(

Staff were abrupt & rude when we arrived and we were greeted with a lot of rules and regulations around noise etc. Overall the place is well maintained by guests respecting said rules, the accommodation served a purpose but I won't be recommending it to friends.

Very clean, modern, well laid out motor camp and motel units. Right next to interesting white sand beach which stretches both ways from camp. Small shop for basics 100 metres from entrance of camp, We visited in a motor caravan. The camp is about as good as one could expect and this is based on having traveled around both North and South Islands and staying in camp grounds.

Room Tip: We stayed at the nearby Big Bay Camp the night before. It was okay but Orua Bay was a joy to find.

Adrian, Thank you for your great review. We are pleased you found us a joy. We strive at our presentation so campers can relax and enjoy their stay. The beach is interesting having a Jandel tree, carvings and easy access to the nearby bays at low tide. We look forward to seeing you again .

This beach is probably the best on the Manukau Harbour, and it is less than an hour and a half away from the city. All you hear at night is the lapping of the waves, and by day you hear the abundance of different birds. The motels are spotlessly clean and very well equipped. I can't wait to come back again. The only complaint is the very hard bed. I will bring a foam pad to put on top.
A great place to get away from the rat race for couples or friends, and in summer the perfect safe beach for the kids.
